    1) Wha...? I don't really understand what you're talking about. If you mean what versions do you need to get all 386, logic says all of them, but I swear I remember somebody saying that XD has all of the version exclusives of the one of the remakes. Or else, all the advanced games are compatible with each other (as are the Pokémon) though on some you need certain requirements before you can get some.
    2) Beat Mt. Battle in Coloseum or get an Mystic Ticket downloaded into your FR/LG/E game from a Nintendo Event.
    3) Get the Aurora Ticket downloaded into FR/LG/E from a Nintendo event.
    4) Once you beat the Elite Four (and have the National Dex, I'd assume), it can be found running around Kanto, like Lati@s in R/S/E or and like in G/S/C. Where you find it is luck, really.
    5) Snag a shadow Bayleef on Coloseum, purify, evolve, beat the game, then trade, or else complete the Hoenn Dex (200/200) in Emerald and pick Chikorita as your Johto starter.

An addition to number 5: If you beat XD's Mt. Battle in one run without leaving or using the PC, you can get a Chikorita with Frenzy Plant (or a Cyndaquil with Blast Burn, or a Totodile with Hydro Cannon).

You can get all 380 (excluding Mew, Celebi, Deoxys, Jirachi, Ho-oh and Lugia, which are not required to complete the national 'dex and should be considered promotionals) with several combinations.

It can be done with Ruby, Sapphire, Leaf Green, Fire Red and Colosseum, for example.

It's also possible to get all 380 (plus Lugia and Ho-oh) with Emerald, either Fire Red or Leaf Green, Colosseum and XD.

All 386 are usable on all games published from Ruby/Sapphire onwards. XD does contain some data regarding the next generation, but these appear to be previews and it may be that XD does not allow them to be traded in (which would require XD to have full stats and pictures for them... I think someone would have hacked that out by now if it were the case.) It is possible that XD may allow new pokémon data to be imported to its save file, though I doubt this would be considered practical.

It has been confirmed that pokémon in current save files will be able to be traded to the new generation games - there will not be any revision of their save data format as there was between GSC and RSE. Nor would one expect there to be - the current format has a large random number that can be easily used to generate future features (it's already used for gender, personality and special ability).

What i meant by the first question is that if i own ruby version, i can get Tauros (original Kanto Pokemon) Raikou(original Jotho Pokemon and a Groundon (Original Hoenn Pokemon) onto this one game by trading , without it saying liek "sorry, you can't take raikou' ect. (like it does from silver to original red).

Anyway, apparently you can't use legendaries in Mt.battle/battle tower. Why

Yeah; as you probably know, FrLg cartridges are perfectly capable of housing Johto and Hoenn generation Pokemon. And you can't use legendaries in those areas because, well, they're legendary. They want to challenge you by forcing you to make a powerful team without the "uber" Pokemon.

The more powerful legends are excluded from battle tower. I know Rayquaza, Latios and Kyogre are, but you can happily use the Regis and Latis. I don't know about the non-Hoenn ones, but I suspect those in the same base stats bracket (Ho-oh, Lugia, Mewtwo) are also excluded. Keep in mind these all have an edge of about 80 base stat points over the next bracket down (Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, the Regis, the Latis, the Beasts, the Birds).

Why? You'd have to ask the designers. Most likely they considered it too easy to beat the tower with the top tier legends. It's just a limitation of the contest, like no duplicates and level.

The beasts are in the same stat bracket as the Latis and Regis, so I'm guessing they are allowed in Tower.

When we talk about "legendaries", we are usually referring to certain Pokemon that cannot be breeded and which have a higher designation than the rest (they are all one-per-game, for one thing, and they are usually at a highly-set level and are thus difficult to capture). By most standards, there are 21 as of RSE: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Regice, Regirock, Registeel, Latias, Latios, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Jirachi, and Deoxys.

However, apparently "lower-tier" legendaries are allowed in these areas. "Upper-tier" legendaries are not. On average, there is a substantial difference between the stats of "lower-tier" and "upper-tier" legendaries when they are added up (hence the references to "stats brackets"). "Upper-tier" legendaries are stronger than the rest stat-wise, which is why they are simply too powerful to be permitted in an area which is supposed to be highly challenging.

There are actually four tiers among the Legends. The lowest tier is that of the Legendary Trios: the Birds, Beasts and Golems. Each of those nine pokémon has a base stat total of 580.
The next tier up is Mew, Celebi, Deoxys and Jirachi with base stat totals of 600. The Latis are on this tier too. Interestingly enough, so are Dragonite, Tyranitar, Metagross and Salamence, although they are not considered legendary.
Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh and Rayquaza rule the Pokéverse at the top tier, with base stat totals of 680. Groudon and Kyogre would probably be there too, as they do deserve better than the Mew tier, but Nintendo wanted Rayquaza to be stronger than the other two for storyline purposes, so Groudon and Kyogre are the first pokémon in history to have a stat total of 670, at what's often thought of as the "first-and-a-half tier".

So, ok. I realize this has NOTHING to do with Legends..

    but what about Slaking and its base stat total of 670 {?} Was that Tier and a half created to also include him? Or -due to his Characteristic- should I consider him at half of his stat total {Barring anything like Skill swap or what not.}

Slaking is toned down considerably by the fact it has a detrimental special ability. That and the fact that it is normal type, so can't get STAB super-effective attacks against anything. Even its Hyper Beam is less powerful than something like Mewtwo's Psychic or Groudon's Earthquake vs a vulnerable.

Generally, you'd class Slaking as second tier.

The 10pt stat difference between Kyogre and Groudon and the others is not significant. Both are single type pokémon with limited vulnerabilities and exceptionally useful special abilities, especially Kyogre.

OK.I think these'll be the last 4 questions i need.

Do you have to complete something to be able to trade from fr/lg to ruby/sapphire/ emerald

Does the wireless adaptor make it so you can battle anyone within a 6okm radius- and are there any restrictions on the pokemon you can use in it (ex.lv restrictions, legendaries band ect.) - or can you chose the level descriptions

Is there a pokemon that can learn a 100% accuracy move (lock on ect.) and a IHKO move (fissure), or do one and learn it as a tm

can venasaur learn these moves synthesis, sunnyday, solarbeam,Body slam(or other phsikal atttack move), or have the same stats as meganium.

    1) Yes. After you defeat the Elite 4 and get given the National 'Dex you have to complete the quest on the islands to get the Ruby and Sapphire plates to the guy on One Island so he can fix the machine to allow regional transfers. Once that's done you can trade with RSE.

    2) Not sure, as I've never had the opportunity to try wireless yet, but I do know it's NOT a 60 kilometre radius (that's about 37 miles!). Perhaps a 60 *metre* radius...? I think wireless battle is similar to link battle - you can agree to limits but the default is anything you bring to the table. There is a limited chat function, I believe.

    3) Arcticuno can learn Mind Reader and Sheer Cold. Also Smeargle via Sketch. AFAIK those are the only two.

    4) Venusaur learns Synthesis and Solarbeam by level up and Sunny Day as a TM. It can learn Body Slam and Double Edge by move Tutor, and Skull Bash as an egg move. It has the same base stats as Meganium, but with their Defense and Special Attack stats swapped (Venusaur has better Special Attack, Meganium has better Defense).

Usually stat totals are taken from level 100, because that's the usual competition level. Some people take them from level 50, but that can be difficult since a few Pokemon don't reach their final evolutionary stage until after that point.

Others, like myself, just use the raw base stat numbers for comparison (which is what I've been doing above). i.e. Mew has a base stat value of 100 in each stat, so has a base total of 600. It's quicker and simpler than trying to work out the potential final stats, which involve other factors such as level, personality, effort and IVs. In any case, in practical terms you never really see a "maxed" pokémon in the modern generations. (One minor exception - it is possible to have a pretty close imitation with Shedinja, since only two of its stats really matter - Atttack and Speed. Getting a +Attack or +Speed Shedinja with IVs of 31 in both stats is challenging but hardly impossible).

It's just in one of the s/g/c manuals, the stats seem ordinary (mew has 100 on each, ect.) but when i look at the pokemon on lv100 on my game, they're more than double the stats there.

Anyway,i still have a few more questions:
How many moods are there and what do they do to the stats (is there only a little change)
When you win a contest, does the ribbon do anything to the pokemon or is it just for show
are the tms on fr/lg the basically the same as red/blue (mainly,is fissure a tm).
Finally: In battle tower, what would be a good substitute for ho-oh, and is gengar a good substitute for mewtwo

Default Re: Questions about Advanced Generation

You're confusing Base Stats with Final Stats.

The final stats are a result of a formula that uses the following values:

Base Stats - defined by pokémon species. i.e. Ninjask has a base speed of 160. A hidden stat, but known.
Level - The higher the level, the better. A known stat.
Individual Value (IV) - a number between 0 and 31 that varies from pokémon to pokémon. A hidden stat.
Effort - obtained from battling and vitamins. Limited to 510 points per pokémon and 255pts per stat, so only two stats per pokémon can ever be at maximum effort. Hidden stat, but will be zero initially and can be tracked.
Nature - adds +10% to one stat, -10% to another. There are 25 natures (Hit Points are not included), with 5 of them being + and - the same stat for a net nil effect.

    The formulas are:

    Hit Points = [{IV + (2 * Base) + (Effort/4)} * Level/100] + 10 + Level

    Other Stats = ([{IV + (2 * Base) + (Effort/4)} * Level/100] + 5) * Nature

(Effort/4) is always rounded down (i.e. 3 effort points have no effect on final stats). Nature will be 0.9, 1.1 or 1.0 depending on the effect of that nature on that stat.

So yeah, final stats at L100 are going to be a bit more than twice the Base Value, even without effort.

The TMs in FR/LG are not the same as Red/Blue. They actually have to be the same as Ruby/Sapphire because it's possible for you to have a pokémon hold a TM and then trade that pokémon between the two games, and it just wouldn't be right if you could make a Return TM into a Fissure TM that way.
However, most of the old Red/Blue TMs are available in FR/LG, in the form of special Move Tutors. These are people in the game who offer to teach your pokémon a move. Like TMs, they can only be used once. For example, Copycat, the girl who lives in Saffron City, used to give you a Mimic TM. Mimic is no longer a TM, so now she has become the Mimic Move Tutor. Give her a Poké Doll and she'll teach Mimic to a pokémon in your party. I don't remember offhand where the Fissure Move Tutor is, if there is one...

No, there is no tutor for Fissure. The only Kanto pokémon that learn it are Diglett/Dugtrio (by level up) or Snorlax (as an egg move).

That was a TM back in the days of Pokemon RBY. That's how Poliwrath got the lethal combo of Mind Reader - Fissure on Pokemon GSC.

hitmonlee can actually get those moves aswell on s/g/c, just its defense stats and HP stats are lower, which is really what you need high for that combination of moves(the pokemon will generally have to take 1 hit, possibly 2 before the opponent is K.O).Hitmonlee has a higher speed though.

No, it's definitely only Arcticuno and Smeargle that can pull that trick in the modern era.

In any case, Flying types or those with Levitate or Sturdy are totally immune to Fissure. Sturdy has managed to put the OHKO genie back in its bottle to some degree; Sheer Cold is the best of the OHKO's though, as there are less types that are immune.

The second-best way to deal with high accuracy OHKO's is to use Protect or an appropriate "remove from screen" move. Grudge, Pressure and Spite can prevent it taking out more than one member of your party.

Ok, you have to go into your profile, you can do that by clicking on the profile button at the top of the page. Now, you just need to find the URL for the picture that you want to place in your siggy. At the beginning of the URL, type (img) and at the end of the URL, type (/img) Make sure that there are no spaces between the IMG tags and the URL. Also, to get a picture to appear, you will need to use [ and ] around the img tags instead of ( and ). I had to use them like that to show you the example, if I had typed them correctly, the tags would not have showed up.

No, you just talk to her and she offers to teach the move in exchange for a pokédoll. If you don't have one she won't teach it. Wasn't aware that you might need to trade with anyone first... but I can't say for certain, as I would have traded there before I got her to teach Mimic.

Well, the Pokedoll thing is a little different in GSC - you had to retrieve her lost Pokedoll (it became a key item, not one you could use) and return it to her in exchange for a Monorail Ticket. I'm not sure if she ever actually taught Mimic, thinking about it. But in RSE, there's a guy in Lavaridge who teaches it once, and I believe he teaches it for free.

As for the whole "switching Pokemon" thing, are you referring to having to deliver one person's Pokemon to someone else, like you are able to do at a few different points in GSC? (The Pokemon were usually holding mail, if I recall.) You might have to do that in GSC as an errand involving the Copycat, but I'm not certain. However, as I said before, there's no obligation for the one-time tutor in RSE.

Can't remember about the switching pokemon thing, it was ages since i actually finished the story, but i think that copycat thought she had a pokedoll, but it was really an actual pokemon, and the person in Vermillion had the doll, who thought it was a real pokemon. You then had to switch the 2 round. This might be all wrong, not sure though

    Nope, all wrong.

Red/Blue/Yellow: Copycat loves Pokédolls! Give her one and she'll give you TM 31: Mimic.

Gold/Silver/Crystal: Copycat has lost the Pokédoll Red gave her three years ago. Now she's all sad without it. Find it for her and she'll reward you with a Monorail ticket! The catch: someone else has found it first...

Fire Red/Leaf Green: Copycat loves Pokédolls! Give her one and she'll give you--oh, wait, Mimic's not a TM now. Okay, she'll teach Mimic to one of your pokémon!

    In order...

    1. The Charmander has to be a Shiny. Otherwise, the evolved Charizard will not be Shiny.

    2. Um... how are we supposed to answer this question? ^_^;

    3. Well, if you're building a team for competitive battling, then it's pretty pointless to have two attacks of the same type. Of those choices, I'd pick Ice Beam and Water Pulse. The weaker Ice Beam is a heck of a lot more reliable than the stronger but inaccurate Blizzard.

    4. As long as it hasn't maxed out its EVs already (and as long as it hasn't already gotten the maximum Attack EVs), you should be able to do that. As far as I know, the stat changes should take effect immediately. At least, they did in previous games. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here.

    5. Well, they don't gain EVs, so that's likely true. However, I'm not aware of any other detrimental effects (other than the potential for moves you want to keep to be erased upon your Pokemon reaching the proper level).

    6. Well, it likely had lower-than-perfect IVs ("initial values" that provide a base for your Pokemon to build stats from), and there's no way to max out EVs ("effort values" that increase depending on what Pokemon you batle against) for all possible stats, as you're limited to a maximum of 510 total points with a max of 255 for each stat.
    IT HAS RETURNED.

The easiest way (not counting Game Shark) would be to start a new game on Fire Red or Leaf Green, choose Charmander as your starter, and, if it isn't Shiny, restart. Continue until you get a Shiny Charmander, then raise it to evolve. Note that the hunt for a Shiny can easily take weeks. I said easiest, not quickest. Come to think of it, though, there really isn't a quicker way (not counting Game Shark.)

Bring Articuno to the Slateport Market and talk to the lady standing next to the guy selling Protein, Iron, etc. If she gives Articuno a Ribbon, it has collected all of the EP it can hold. If she doesn't...is your Articuno level 100? If it is, it can't get any more EP from battling. It can, however, still get EP from Protein, Iron, etc., but that is subject to the usual limits for those things, mainly the fact that they can't raise any EV beyond 100 out of 255.

As mr pikachu said, if you're prepping Articuno for some tournament battles, or even Colloseum, Ice Beam and Blizzard on the same pokémon is unwise. It's not like you have to worry about running out of Ice-type PP in tournament battles. As far as which move to pair with Water Pulse, that's mostly personal choice. Some prefer the greater power of Blizzard and are willing to trust their luck to hit; others don't like putting the battle in the fickle hands of fate, and stick with Ice Beam for the sure-fire accuracy and pretty decent power. I myself am in the Ice Beam camp, not just for the better Accuracy but also because I want to have more than 8 PP just in case.

As I said earlier, yes you can, but the EV itself has to be low enough so that the stat-boosting supplement can affect it. If your pokémon has made a career of whupping Machoke and other heavy hitters, it has probably gathered enough Attack EP so that Protein will not boost its Attack EV any further.

As mr pikachu said, the only two ways a daycare-raised pokémon would be weaker are 1) it doesn't get any EP in the process, which is the same problem that Rare Candies have, and 2) if it reaches a level when it would learn a new move, you have no say in what happens to its move list and you might lose something important for something worthless. The first problem can be solved by EV-training first, or afterward if it doesn't hit L100 in the Daycare; the second can be avoided by being careful. Before delivering your pokémon into the arms of the day care staff, order its move list from least-wanted moves at the top to most important ones at the bottom, just in case, and then check every so often to see what level it's reached, bearing in mind the levels at which the pokémon would learn moves.

There are five factors that determine your pokémon's stats. Two of them are species and level; your Charizard is fully evolved and level-100, so you're fine there. The other three are more problematic.
One of the other factors is Individual Values, IVs. These represent natural, inborn talent that can make one Charmander stand out from the others even at hatching. Your Charizard has an IV for each of its six stats, and the values of those IVs are set at birth and never change. Max Stats assume that all six IVs are the highest an IV can get. This is possible, but pathetically unlikely. Therefore, you can't expect every given pokémon to be able to reach Max Stats for its species.
Another factor is Effort Values, EVs. Like IVs, Charizard has one EV for each of its six stats, but unlike IVs each EV starts at zero and is increased through effort, by collecting Effort Points, EP. Each enemy you defeat is worth EXP, and also a set number of EP in certain stats. The real catch here is the limits on EP gain. No single EV can be raised above 255, and each pokémon can collect no more than 510 EP total. Thus it is impossible to max out more than two EVs. Therefore, you can't expect any pokémon to be able to reach Max Stats for its species, since most listings of Max Stats assume that each EV is as high as an EV can get.
The final factor, by the way, is nature; your Charizard might be Hasty or Adamant or Quirky, or whatever. Each Nature boosts a stat by 10% and lowers a stat by 10%. Some sources choose to list Max Stats assuming that every stat has the benefit of a boost from Nature, and that's just plain silly because only one can have that at a time. Plus, there's the matter of a stat being lowered by a Nature...the only way to avoid that lowering is to also deprive yourself of the boost, because some natures raise and lower the same stat and the two cancel each other out.

I think articuno has stopped getting Ev's. i tested by battling atleast 16 zubats(more porbably 20), 1 speed EV each, and i only got up 3 speed when levelling up. It's on lv72 by the way, so i still have time f i'm wrong.

Also, is there any way of knowing whether a pokemon has good IV's when you catch it.
