According to the TCG website, there's actually two formats in use. But fortunately, unless you live in Brazil, France, Portugal or Spain, you'll be using the same as everyone else.
They are:
- Hidden Legends
- Fire Red Leaf Green
- Team Rocket Returns
- Deoxys
- Emerald
- Unseen Forces
- Delta Species
- Legend Maker
- EX Trainer Kit (don't worry, the only two new cards are a latios and a latias
- POP series (both)
- Black Star promos #027 and above
The exceptions for the said four countries has a few additions, but basically the format used last year, including ALL Black Star promos.
Take note also that Holon Phantoms will also be legal once they are released this May (pre-release starting the end of this month). Also take note that the format used in Worlds is the former (HL-On).
To expound, in the four countries that Roarkiller mentioned, the following sets are also legal: EX Ruby and Sapphire, EX Dragon, EX Sandstorm, and EX Team Magma vs. Team Aqua.
Also, remember that the aforementioned rules apply to Modified tournaments (which is the standard for most tournaments nowadays). If a tournament says that it uses the Unlimited format, then any card from any Pokemon TCG set is legal (as well as promos), all the way back to Base Set. However, note that so-called "fake" cards cannot be used in either format.
so the ex sandstorm is no good? and also are there any good places to play the game, and how do i become part of the tournements?
Wow, sandstorm is so two years ago.Originally Posted by Buffpiezan
For places to play, you can check out the official website at http://op.pokemon-tcg.com, then search for tournaments/leagues in your location.
Other than that bit, unless we actually know where you live, we can't be of much help, can we?Best place to start looking would be places that actually sells the cards. Ask the shopkeeper if he/she knows of any places to play. Or if you're in luck, you might bump into a group of players around the area.
Yeah, just ask around. Call your local game shops, ask any friends you know who play the game, and look on the internet if all else fails. Just be a little cautious with internet listings, as some are outdated. You should probably call whatever location you find beforehand to check whether they still have Pokemon TCG tournaments, as well as to ask what rules they play under. Better to spend a couple of minutes calling beforehand than to show up with your deck and discover that they haven't had a tournament for three years.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in finding a location to play. Enjoy the game!![]()
