    To answer your questions:

As of the Advanced Generation games (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen), there are a total of 386 Pokemon. This will certainly change once Diamond and Pearl are released for the Nintendo DS, although it is unknown how many new additions there will be.

The remakes of the original Game Boy games are the aforementioned FireRed and LeafGreen. However, these games have new additions, most notably the Sevii Islands. These are a group of seven islands (nine if you count the ones which can be accessed via special "tickets" available at Nintendo events).

I would post my team, but I really don't have one that's well developed.

Crud! 386?!?!?!?! The Things that can happen in 4 years! Well I need to catch up on a lot of things, time to get in sync with all this, Im really lost, I dont even know what all these berries are now. And I definetely dont know what pokemon to use against dark type pokemon. This is a huge mess but i'll catch up. At least I got the DS now. I am waiting for this game. Im 23 yrs old. Yes Im a grown man now, but I have been hooked to this game since I was 14 and I cannot let it go, once your hooked with such an original RPG game you cannot let go, same thing happened with Final Fantasy and I still play these once in a while. This game will continue its legacy, I just hope Nintendo changes the RPG engine a bit. Lets see what happens. Does anyone know a way to play Pokemon Red/Blue On the internet with ROMS? Im trying to see if I can play red/blue with anyone. Any comunities? Ok thanks for the help. Dont forget submit your teams!!

Yeah, there are a lot of Pokemon now. Gold, Silver, and Crystal (GSC) added 100 new Pokemon to the original total of 151, which made a sum of 251 Pokemon by the second generation. The third generation (often referred to as the Advanced Generation, hence the name of this forum) increased the total by another 135, which left us with 386. Most current guesses about the number of Pokemon after the fourth generation hover in the vicinity of 500. But there's still quite a bit of time before Diamond and Pearl (DP) will be released, and don't forget that they'll almost certainly be released in Japan before anywhere else.

As for your age, that's hardly something to be concerned with. I'm 18, myself, and many other members here are quite a bit older. (One notable Fanficcer from a couple of years back was a 40-something mother, and that didn't stop her from being a great TPMer.)

You mentioned playing Pokemon on the internet. There are a few things to look at with that. First, TPM has many different ways to play Pokemon in a different way than you're likely used to playing. You might want to check out the Anime Style Battling and Adopted/Captured Pokemon areas. Also, you can find battle engines in the Online Pokemon Battling section; further, there are some efforts to start a Red/Blue/Yellow (RBY) tournament right now, and you can find the developments in this thread. ROMs, on the other hand, aren't really a subject we like to talk about here, as they infringe on copyrights and can lead to problems.

Anyway, to get this back on Advanced Generation subjects, I suppose I'll give a team I made for fun awhile back:

    EVs:
    HP-ATK-DEF-SPATK-SPDEF-SPD

    Ninetales (M) – Flash Fire
    252-0-252-0-0-6
    @ Leftovers
    - Flamethrower
    - Body Slam
    - Toxic
    - Safeguard

Mainly for setup. Toxic and/or Safeguard, then attack like crazy. I was considering substituting Faint Attack for Body Slam to make it more of a Special Attacker; I’d shift the HP EVs to Sp. Atk. in that case, I think.

    Aerodactyl (F) – Rock Head
    0-252-6-0-0-252
    @ Liechi Berry
    - Earthquake
    - Double-Edge
    - Rock Slide
    - Steel Wing

Physical Sweeper. Pretty self-explanatory; trying to cover all the bases with different types. Double-Edge + Rock Head is nice, too.

    Gengar (M) – Levitate
    0-0-6-252-0-252
    @ Petaya Berry
    - Thunderbolt
    - Psychic
    - Night Shade
    - Explosion

Special Sweeper. Night Shade is in case I have to face a foe with high Sp. Defense. Explosion’s a nice way to say goodbye.

    Shiftry (M) – Early Bird
    6-0-252-0-252-0
    @ Chesto Berry
    - Toxic
    - Giga Drain
    - Body Slam
    - Rest

A makeshift Tank. Rest for full recovery at some point (dropping Chesto), then hoping to take advantage of Early Bird later. In the meantime, Toxic to drain the foe, Giga Drain for attack + recovery, and Body Slam when it’s pounding time. I’m a little concerned about this one with the low defensive stats, though… any thoughts?

    Banette (F) – Insomnia
    6-252-0-0-0-252
    @ Bright Powder
    - Shadow Ball
    - Body Slam
    - Toxic
    - Night Shade

Physical Sweeper. Another pretty self-explanatory one, with Toxic for draining and Night Shade just in case.

    Milotic (F) – Marvel Scale
    252-0-252-6-0-0
    @ Shell Bell
    - Surf
    - Ice Beam
    - Confuse Ray
    - Recover

Tank with Special attacks. Confuse Ray to slow the opponent down (I love 100% accuracy!), Recover and Shell Bell to boost back up.
    IT HAS RETURNED.

Yeah you probably want to check up on stuff like EVs for developing a nice team. But overall it has changed a fair bit but only for the better. The old pokemon games you knew are still the core basis of these games. It's all good really. Read up on EVs and IVs then download netbattle to practise your teams against other people online. But read up on the stuff a bit before you get fire red/leaf green and you'll be fine for developing a well balanced team of pokemon. But as a suggestion i suggest getting emerald version as I find it far more fun than the fire/red remakes because it makes you realise how much pokemon has evolved. The nostalgia of the remakes are good though.
