The Johou Tournament
Upon the outskirt islands between the Hidden Leaf Village and the Mist Village, is a secluded island that harbors a dangerous academy- Shikou Academy. Known through out the Shinobi villages, Shikou Academy is a place that very few promising Ninjas-in-training are allowed to be enrolled into. Its high-classed teachers and dangerous, strong and some-times questionable techniques make the Academy one of the most acknowledged and prestigious places throughout the land.
While normal graduated Ninja students go on to become Genin and do low-class missions until they are granted higher ranks, a few are allowed or invited to (attempt to) join Shikou Academy. Each village selects a few very promising Genin to attempt to join Shikou Academy. If they are allowed to enter the Academy, it is there they will spend two harsh years of training to hone their skills to amplify their powers. It has been proven and is believed that those Ninjas who attend the academy excel and rise in Ninja ranks faster than any normal Genin who simply do missions to prove their worth. In fact, if a Genin ninja graduates from Shikou Academy, they are immediately promoted to the rank of Jounin and are recognized by their village. That is… if they graduate…
However, a Ninja has to get into Shikou Academy first. Even if a village recommends a Genin to the academy, that does not guarantee they are automatically allowed into Shikou. First, all the Genin must enter the Johou Tournament. If they pass the trials of the Johou Tournament they are allowed to enter… but the Tournament lasts for several weeks, some times up to a month. Many Ninjas claim that those who even attend and participate in the tournament have an edge over the regular Genin. While the tournament tests the skills the Genin already possess, it also works to enhance and train those skills to show improvement during the tournament. This would not only show current worth, but also potential.
Welcome to the Johou Tournament.
[color=orange]
You are a newly-graduated Ninja who has shown extreme talent and has gone on a few Genin missions but already has shown extreme talent compared to other Genin. One day, you are informed (in some way or another) that you have to attend a meeting with the head of village. It is there that you (and a few others) learn that you are being withdrawn from missions (WHAT?!) and are being sent to Shikou Academy (oooooh…). So you head to Shikou Academy and are immediately greeted by a pair of Ninjas. One of them is a female who not only looks pleasant, but seems to have a pleasant demeanor as well. (She looks almost as old as you too… O.o?). The other is a man whose one eye is covered and seems to be quiet and a bit unnerving to you. They both welcome you, and soon inform you that you will be enrolled into the Johou Tournament to see if you truly are welcomed to Shikou Academy.
Ushered inside… you find yourself immersed in a large and almost dream-like place. Several training facilities border the large almost castle-like facility in the center. This facility serves as the off-hands training- basically the place where Ninjas will teach you with written and oral tests and lectures if you are permitted into the academy. Outside of the area are many forested places with certain alterations for tests and studying sessions, and to the very right is a huge and open-roofed stadium ground for the last part of the Johou Tournament.
“While you are not enrolled into Shikou Academy… you are allowed to use all the facilities here while you are not in training or being tested.” The rogue-looking male Ninja informs you.
It is then that you join with a main group of Genin Ninjas that have come from all of the Nine Villages. All are here for the tournament, and you suddenly realize that perhaps this competition is going to be tougher than you expected.
The Johou Tournament is a tournament that is designed to test all areas of being a Ninja. This means that the first stage of the Johou Tournament will test basic Ninja abilities with simplistic tests such as running through training exercises and attempting to climb trees… etc. Other tests will be related to speed, strength, mind and chakra abilities as well. This is all stage one tests… mostly non-combatant abilities although they still will remain competitive since many of the tests will be together with other Genin.
Stage two tests teams’ abilities and thus several Genin will be divided up onto teams where they will attempt to successfully complete a mission. Once you join a team, it will not be permanent but will change quite often. This will help identify your assets and define you for those who will be watching and observing you at all times.
The last and final stage will obviously be the main part of the tournament- fighting against your own opponent for victory. That is rather self explanatory.
While those three stages will be the tournament, you will have breaks between each day (each stage covers a week or so). Some times you will be given a few days off, depending upon the schedule of both the Academy and the Tournament. This will allow you to not only relax and gain your strength, but it also gives you time to attend a few of the classes at the Academy or observe a few sparrings between the students of the Academy.
“You are also welcomed to go to any place for help or aid here in the Academy. There are many available Jounin to teach and help you hone your skills between tests and stages.” The woman says nicely, giving a slight bow. You are allowed to try to schedule help or training sessions with a few of the “professors” in the Academy- all which are usually highly skilled Jounin.
“Your first test of the first stage will be tomorrow morning. Be here at dawn promptly. All of you.” The male Ninja says, narrowing his eye as he simply walks off.
Welcome to the Jounin Tournament, or perhaps even Shikou Academy!
Now, you don’t have to know Naruto or have even watched Naruto to be in this RPG. While I have taken the basic structure, land-structure and names of Naruto… it obviously won’t follow the anime. That means you can have special abilities like in the anime from Naruto, but there isn’t really a limit however I EXPECT everyone to be creative with their characters. (So please… not everyone take extreme special abilities or the same abilities or I will be forced to pick and choose who can have what.) If you haven’t seen Naruto but want to know a bit about the names and ranks of Ninja, go here:
Naruto Rank Guide & Etc
To also have a map of Naruto’s world and a guide to the villages, go here:

Anyways, if you have any more questions- feel free to ask. More about the tournament and the way things will work in this RPG will be revealed later, but I welcome all questions.

Name: Kuroda, Miharu
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Village: Hidden Cloud Village
Appearance: [ See Second Attachment ] Like that, with that tattoo as well. However, she wears a skirt-version of that dress, with a sleeveless skin-tight top that is cut slightly down the middle. Her village head-band is located around her waste.
Personality: Miharu is extremely pleasant and constantly has a smile upon her face. She’s warm and welcoming and prefers optimistic thoughts than anything. It’s hard to take her seriously as a Ninja if you first meet her, especially if you haven’t seen her skill. Most assume she’s a push over based on her seemingly non-concentrated attitude. She extends a hand to almost anyone and will spread herself thin if it is for the good of others. Her emotions are easily read at all times and she hides very little.
History: Miharu was raised in the Hidden Cloud Village with care. She had an abrupt and startling existence in life, and she was believed to have been abandoned by an early age. She was adopted however and never knew the pain or suffering of having no real parents, and grew up happy and well-taken care of. It almost seemed as if the entire village was looking after her however and there wasn’t anyone who wasn’t willing to watch or help train her. The entire village almost seemed to help her hone her skills, and she became a Genin at the age of 10. She then was enrolled at Shikou Academy and became one of their prestigious students and graduated with high honors. She instantly became a Jounin and was a huge source of pride for the Hidden Cloud Village. At Shikou Academy she learned of her true heritage, but instead of looking at it in horror she took it in as a gift. She prided herself in learning sealing techniques and swore to help others so that she would never hurt anyone. Soon she was called back to Shikou after offering her uncharged and untainted services, where she became a teacher. While she didn’t scout for talent, she offers her services as a teacher and a counselor.
Main Jutsu: Genjutsu
Special Abilities: Hidenjutsu, mostly for the fact that she herself contains the seal of Gobi no Houkou. <More of this is revealed later.>
Hobbies: She loves listening to people and serves as a counselor and rather enjoys it. Also likes cooking..
Relations: She knows Ookami through Shikou Academy. Also knows Hado from her village... they had been childhood friends but became split apart once school started and she advanced. (Other relations welcomed!)
Other: Miharu is a very talented cook.
Name: Outai, Ookami
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Village: The Hidden Leaf Village
Appearance: [ See 1st Attachment ] Just like that, except with slightly ice-blue tinted grey hair. His main eye is also silver, and his Shaningon eye is not red but ice blue.
Personality: Ookami seems a bit rough around the edges at first impression. He’s rather quiet and tends to always look at others with a watchful gaze (even with only one eye showing). He tends to be harsh when grading or criticizing others, although deep down he is more caring that he seems. If one were to ask for his help he perhaps at first would scrutinize if they really wanted help, but once they proved their determination he would open up and show them kindness and prove to be a very useful tutor. He does have a few moments where he shows his quirky side.
History: Ookami grew up in The Hidden Leaf Village, and he became a Genin at the age of 6. He was extremely praised for his skill and works, and he soon became a Jounin through missions and was never enrolled in Shikou Academy. He worked for ANBU for a while (a special special-ops like team for his village) and did many assassinations for his village, but he was given an offer to become a teacher for Shikou Academy. Accepting the offer (and liking the idea of teaching), Ookami retired from ANBU and joined Shikou Academy. Through his life, Ookami is well-known throughout the Nine Villages and most Genin and higher would know him easily. He has made contact with each of the Nine Villages from time to time, stopping by to observe upcoming Genin or even a few Jounin from other villages. If you were invited to Shikou Academy, most likely you’ve met or been seen by Ookami. He’s become a main guy in the academy (like a scout) although he is not the head. His abilities are mysterious although his strength is well-known.
Main Jutsu: Ookami is well-balanced in all Jutsu, although he is known for his Kekkei Genkai… because of his one eye.
Special Abilities: Sharingan (Copy Wheel Eye). The Sharingan eye is a specific trait that Ookami inherited from his family’s bloodline. Usually the Sharingan trait appears in both eyes, but oddly for Ookami he was born with only one Sharingan eye. Despite that, it appears that his Sharingan eye enhanced early and was apparently more powerful than those in his bloodline with two eyes. He finds it a little bit difficult to control because of the power it can create and the chakra it drains, so he covers it with his headband.
Hobbies: Ookami likes to read a lot… not regular novels, but text books and ridiculously hard texts that normal Ninjas wouldn’t read. He also likes hanging from trees by his legs for some apparent reason.
Relations: Knows Miharu through Shikou Academy. (I’ll accept relations!)
Other: Ookami has a weakness for learning… he’ll stop a training session if something interesting happened, but won’t usually tell why.

Outai, Ookami & Kuroda Miharu
.: Professor | M/F | Currently greeting Takuto :.
[font=Tahoma]
“Hmmm… so it appears the straggler has finally arrived.” Ookami said suddenly, appearing quite suddenly before Miharu. She blinked for a second, looking at Ookami before giving a nod. Miharu had been standing upon a large wooden platform, overlooking a rather large group of Genin who had come from all over the land to achieve the change to attend Shikou. They had been told to arrive early this day… and most had come precisely when the sun had risen above the horizon. Those that had come earlier had not been allowed in, merely from Ookami’s spite. (Miharu had wanted them to come, but Ookami found it more amusing to keep them outside the gate.) They now all had gathered- a few of them talking, a few of them being loners… it seemed there were many different personalities from one scale to another. That, and Ookami knew very well that each held their own special techniques and disciplines. He was actually quite excited this year… for this year seemed to bring some of the most promising and unique individuals compared to other years.
“Attention everyone!” Miharu said loudly, getting everyone’s attention after a few seconds. She offered them a pleasant smile as she looked to Ookami who wasn’t seemingly paying attention, but was looking at the clouds in the sky. Frowning, she looked back to the group of Genin. “We will be back shortly… the last Genin had arrived. Once we bring him back here… we can explain a bit further.” A few mumurs of relief and ‘good riddance’ seemed to emit from the cloud as both of the Jounin disappeared.
Suddenly appearing, both Ookami and Miharu appeared before the last and final accepted Genin. His name was Takuto, and Miharu knew the name faintly but she had never been one to really research or ‘scout’. However, Ookami knew him very well and he smirked beneath his half-masked face at the sight of the head-strong Takuto. His fierce eyes gazed at Ookami and Miharu, seeming to size them up almost instantly. This amused Ookami further.
“Mmmm…. What time is it, Miharu-san?” Ookami said softly, turning to her with a sarcastic look within his eye. Miharu seemed to not catch the joke, but she swiftly looked at the sky and shrugged.
“About noon.” She replied, to which Ookami gave a nod and looked straight at Takuto.
“You’re late, Takuto-san.” With that, Takuto’s eyes narrowed in annoyance and seemed to be a bit perturbed that Ookami already knew his name. “With your prompt timing, we shouldn’t let you in…” Ookami continued, but he shrugged and looked to Miharu. She shook her head, and Ookami sighed and looked to Takuto. “Lucky for you, Miharu-san is in good spirits.”
With that, Miharu stepped forward and smiled at Takuto.
“Greetings, I am Kuroda Miharu, and this is Outai Ookami.” She said, looking at Ookami who seemed to show no reaction to the mentioning of his name but rather he simply turned and disappeared. Miharu waited with Takuto for a few moments, before the gates from the inside suddenly opened a bit, allowing just enough room for the two of them to enter. Miharu ushered Takuto inside, and Ookami shut the doors behind them. Swiftly the three started to walk, as Ookami spoke- his voice unchanged and unnerving with an inner calmness.
“If you had been on time, Horie-san, we would have shown you the facilities in a quick glancing tour. But there is no time and the other Genin are impatient. I am sure you were informed that you are not allowed in Shikou Academy yet, but must participate in the tournament, correct?”
Takuto nodded slightly, and soon the three of them entered a large area where many other Genin were waiting. All of them glanced at Takuto, but before he could notice… Ookami and Miharu were back upon the platform again.
“Welcome again, to Shikou Academy.” Miharu said lightly, as Ookami (seemingly out of no where) pulled out a very thick text book and had it already opened and began reading it. (The words, “The Theories of Calculus” were upon the book) Miharu ignored Ookami as he read, a few of the students finding this odd.
“As you are all aware of… you are not allowed into Shikou Academy until you have passed through the Jounin tournament. The Johou tournament is divided into three parts over the course of a month or so. You will be informed as we go what each part consists of. The first part of the tournament will not start until a few days… for we would like to do a few fun things first.” Miharu gave an extra smile at the word ‘fun’ as Ookami gave a cough and lowered the book, eyeing everyone with his one eye.
“First, we handed all of you a slip of paper with a number upon it- Everyone except for Takuto-san over there, who decided to show up late. That number tells you which house you will be in, according to the map.” Ookami pointed at a map near the platform that they were standing upon. The map clearly defined the outline of Shikou Academy, including a large area that consisted of many nicely sized homes for the residents.
“You will be sharing one house with four other Genin, all who are trying to get into Shikou Academy. You can divide up the rooms as you see fit, for we have no time to do such petty things.”
Miharu sighed and swiftly spoke after Ookami. “Settle in tonight and come back to this spot tomorrow morning.”
“Remember Takuto, the morning.” Ookami said sharply, looking at him with a cold stare. “And not before the morning either…” Ookami then looked at another group with an equal stare.
“Yes… the morning. We will group here and then Ookami-san and I will bring you to the main training stadium. It is there that we have a surprise for all of you Genin. But until then… feel free to take your time the rest of the day to settle into your homes and explore the areas. Be careful not to interfere with other students who are enrolled here however.” Miharu gave a nod, looking to Ookami who went back to reading. Sighing, she continued.
“One benefit at the Shikou Academy is that there are many able Jounin and Sensei here. We highly encourage you to visit any of them. If they have time they all will be happy to help you with any training questions or concerns you may have. You might even get a nice lesson!” Miharu clasped her hands together, looking once again at Ookami who nodded slightly.
“If you want to talk, need counseling, want a home-cooked meal or training advice… you can stop by my house any time.” Miharu walked towards the edge of the platform and bent over, pointing at one of the spots on the map. “My house is here. If you want to ask Ookami any questions or want his advice or help in training, his house is here.” She pointed to his house, which caused Ookami to lower the book yet again and give a rather agitated look. He then finally stood up and lowered the book completely, giving a firmer nod.
“That is all we have to say to you for now. There are maps of Shikou in each house hold… so be off.”
With that, he disappeared leaving Miharu to wave them off.
Yay! It staaarts! All of your first posts should consist of you arriving at the Shikou Academy gates and being greeted by Ookami and Miharu, much like they did for Takuto. (Feel free to make their language different of course… I trust all of you can stay in character.) What will be different however, is that they will give you a small little ‘this is the academy’ tour (much like what is described originally in the topic) and then will bring you to the meeting area. Depending on what time you arrive, the group will be large or small. Feel free to interact a bit with NPC characters or existing characters. You have a lot of freedom in other words.
ALSO! On the housing bit… feel free to have the same number as some one else’s character so you can all room with other characters. I only require that each house has 1 NPC character… doesn’t matter who/what they are. Mixed genders can house, but just keep in mind that Ookami pays house visits often. ^^; Also, feel free to post after the big ‘meeting’ and you can go to your house, explore the Academy or bother my characters or other people’s characters. You get some good freedom this day.
I will keep the pace going along as I see fit. YAY! STAARRRTS…
