Sub-par Mario Sprites (I'll take requests, too!)

Yes, I was bored enought to actually post this crap for all to see. Sorry.


First, my ASB bumper, which I did virtually no work on...




Next up, something I made out of boredom, which is kinda funny.




Still with me? Good - they get a little better now; next up, something I thought of after seeing all those Shy Guy variations... It's hard out here for a pimp, especially when he looks like this:




Last but not least, the real reason why Bowser always loses - you wouldn't fare too well with troops like these, either!




Anybody think these are worth a damn? Please, let me know; anybody have a Mario sprite request? Let me know; keep it somewhat simple, and I'll see what I can do.

They aren't bad, maybe not the most original lot but much better than anything I could do. I'd give the 2nd Mario sprite a different quote than "oh, ****" ... maybe a classic "mamma mia" would do the job too and it'd be a typical Mario quote.

Those are quite clever, Blade, if a bit hard to see because they're so large. I also can't see the original Mario "Oh, ****" image, but I see the new one well enough so I suppose it doesn't matter.

Well, since (for different reasons) I don't really know how to approach Phoenix's and Kev's requests, here's yours, Lou. I made the original Bowser's Castle from scratch (which is why it looks so crappy :p), took the original Mario and Bowser sprites, and added them and a few others to the mix, for a more action-esque look:

As for you, Phoenix and Kev, I'll work on yours after I get some sleep and come up with some better ideas.

Are the fireballs(below the bridge) friends or enemies of Bowser.

And, If they are enemies, I wonder what Bowser will do when the third fireball burns him?

They're called Podoboos; they're enemies and can hurt Mario. Bowser, on the other hand, is immune to them, though he's vulnerable to Mario's fireballs...

OK, Kev, I took two existing sprites from Super Mario Bros. 2 and (I think) Super Mario Bros. Advance, modified them a bit, and tried to arrange them in a way that would convey what you oh-so-vaguely requested. Hope you like it; if not, tell me what you want me to change and I'll change it (Oh, and the same goes for you, Lou, and everyone else who makes a request).

As for your request Phoenix, I'm sorry, but I need some sort of basis - I've come up with like 200 different representations of a Piranha Plant, but I don't know which one you want. Please, give me something a little more specific, OK? Otherwise I'm just gonna wing it with my Pac-rahna Plant idea.

Thankee kindly, Phoenix. 'Twas nothing...

That key is one of those random little 'power-ups,' I guess you can call it - gobble it down and you get some extra points, just like a piece of fruit, a pretzel, and a few other assorted goodies.

Not at all necessary, but it's a cute little addition, I think.

This was inspired by the New Super Mario Bros.; it's been done before, but as much as I hate to brag, I think this is better than the ones I've seen, which are usually either just recolored or with some features added on, making the final result look kind of blocky.

It's none other than the legendary Crystal Lake killer: Jason Voorhees! I'm getting a kick-ass Jason costume for Halloween; if I get it on time and remember my camera, I'll take me a picture and put it up somewhere here at TPM.

Oh, and Big Bertha was indeed the big fishy's name - good memory.

Mash-up sprites? If you mean like those splices, then yeah, I think I can do that - I don't know how to do it like she does exactly, but I didn't know a few weeks ago how to make these custom Mario sprites, either. Go figure.

Err... I just came up with the thought recently...

So, uhh... how about a Blastoise/Koopa splice? (body of a Blastoise, complete with the cannon, but maybe add in a koopa's head, colour... something like that)

Sorry if it sounds absurd :p.

Well, my specialty is Mario sprites, not Pokemon, but this one seems pretty simple... I'll give it a shot.

And it is done!

Now, Faiz, you never specified what kind of Koopa to splice with Blastoise, so I just winged it, and decided to splice the Armor Pokemon with the original Koopa himself. The legendary king of the Koopas himself, Bowser!

This sprite took me almost two hours, but I am very happy with the result - it is far better than my previous ones, even though it isn't my forte.

I decided to leave it more sprite-sized, since it has too much detail - up close, it looks just like a bunch of colored dots.

So... anything else? I have a few new ones I've been tinkering with; I'll post those later.

Hey hey. Just popping in to say that the Koopa Clown Car is rockin', and the one of Waluigi looks really good. King Boo's comment was, uh, interesting.

Something I've noticed happening a lot though is violation of what I think is called "pixel integrity" - keeping all of your base pixels the same size. This is particularly evident on the Bowsertoise splice - it's why the cannons look distorted. If you can keep your pixels the same size, it'll make your work a lot better.

'Pixel integrity...?' Never heard of it... Still, these M&L sprites seem to have the same-size pixels as the Paint pencil does, so they should work...

Anyway, speaking of M&L sprites, here's a sprite inspired by one 'Alvin Earthworm' that depicts Mario basically going Super Saiyan. Check it out:







They really gotta quit genetic engineering with those Fire Flowers, huh? Comments please.

All i need is different appearance, not powers =D

Phoenix: OK, you requested a Charmander/Yoshi combo, right? Well, a Yoshi head was too small for Charmander's body, so I spliced some Charmander parts in with Yoshi instead. Here's the result:



Mega Horny: Mixing a sprite and a picture is much harder than I thought, so I've ignored that for now and focused on your other request.

Not that that was much better - I found 1 Grodus sprite on the entire Internet. Stop giving me hard requests, you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...But, I digress. I mixed the two sprites, remixed them, then tore them apart and started all over again, and wound up with this... thing. Enjoy:
