    Default New sprite thread?

    Yay.

Well, I just made new sprites of my Leta, Letal and Letaligon evolution line. They used to look like this, Advance-style:

But now I made new D/P-style ones, which look like this:

And then some people complained that they liked the old Letaligon pose better, so I remade that pose in D/P-style, too:

So yeah. Comments on anything welcome.

Whoa they look pretty cool, I wish i could do stuff like that. They remind me of some of my favourite pokemon Espeon + Aron

Two pixel-overs - both of them suggestions, actually. Firstly, a Dialga that somebody suggested and made me remember I had always intended to make one since I love Dialga:

And secondly, a Jirachi made for somebody who was making a ROM hack. It was made from an image he provided, which later, when I searched DeviantArt for Jirachi, turned out to have been a thumbnail of this picture by crayon-chewer on DeviantArt. I don't know if he got permission from the artist to use it in the ROM hack, but at least I asked after creating it. Meanwhile I am giving full credit to this crayon-chewer for the original picture:

A Palkia to go with that Dialga. My God, Palkia has to be one of the most difficult Pokémon ever to sprite. Whatever I may have said about Palkia's D/P sprite looking bad, I can forgive them now that I discovered that Palkia uses the full allotted palette of sixteen colors and a grand total of one does not appear as a perfectly ordinary shade on some part of its body. This means that there is one dark gray color for the outline, and then the possibility of reusing the shadow colors of some of its hues. That thing is freakishly difficult to work with, and I really think it came out surprisingly good considering that. I thought I'd have to make up an entirely new shading scheme to be able to work with the D/P Palkia's seemingly awful palette, but somehow that pink looks considerably better on a large pixel-over like this than a tiny sprite. Maybe the outline shading, which I changed quite a bit more, has something to do with it. Even the shiny version looks halfway decent:

Also, despite being twelve pixels shorter, Palkia looks bigger than Dialga in the pixel-over because Palkia is more massive; fewer pixels out of the available space are transparent. Similar concept to those two Letaligon sprites. Here they are together, so you can see what I mean:

EDIT: Ah, what the heck. I made a shiny Dialga too.

Gah. Ditto. Easy as hell to outline; a nightmare to shade. A huge blob of one solid color will never look good in such a tiny palette. ><; But here it is.

I'm not sure what the heck I can do with that thing to make it look halfway decent. :/

Pixel-overs of this Mew that I drew and the Sugimori Butterfree. I don't like the Butterfree much but I can't really put my finger on why; I love the Mew's head, but hate the shading on the body.

Both made for my sig at a couple of other forums.

I quite like the shading on both the Butterfree and Mew, and over all the colours all look right. I don't know what you're nitpicking about on the Butterfree but I personally don't see a problem with it. On the Mew I somewhat understand, the shadow around the neck doesn't look particularly right.

Your Ditto looks fine, the colouration came out fine IMO.

Nice work on the D/P legends, very spiffy.

The Jirachi is a step up from Crayon's Jirachi, looks quite sweet but the yellow comes off as a little too strong to me. It looks nice but it throws me off a bit.

As for the Fakemon. They look nice but a little too 'plain' and overly smooth. Whether that was your intention or not I'm un-sure of but their bodies look too smooth to me. Judging by their appearance they're meant to be mammals and would presumably have fur, which isn't conveyed too well by their sprites. The eyes on the Advanced Letaligon look a bit "off" as well but they look fine in the redone versions so I won't nitpick on that.

Um, it's a little difficult to convey fur on a sprite. o_O I mean, you can convey really bushy fur on a sprite, but their fur is short and quite simply not fuzzy enough to make one pixel of difference anywhere. :/ Pokémon like Meowth or Persian don't look fuzzy either on the sprites for the same reason.

The Jirachi's yellow is taken from the D/P Jirachi; I always use colors from official sprites when I make pixel-overs for no particular reason.

Point taken although I think the big difference maker is that persian and Meowth are a badge colour whilst yours are a white/grey. Something about the colours give them a different feel. Still, I'll concede to you on that.

I'm so used to RSE Jirachi, wasn't aware they'd enhanced Jirachi's colour in D/P until now. RSE Jirachi seems slightly paler.
