Unreal City

For six months, a series of disappearances has subtly stalked <Unreal City>. It started out small, just a few strung-out junkies never coming back to their bunks. A few bodies were found with strange names carved into them... but who was to say they weren't there before? But then a middle class teenager never returned home- she was found floating in the river with the word 'Phlebas' carved into her back. After the initial shock passed, another woman vanished- this time a prominent young lawyer. Her body was found spread across the rocks outside the quarry- Belladonna carved delicately into her forehead. The police of <Unreal City> began to have a horrible suspicion- a serial killer was on the loose. There seem to be two weeks between the disappearances and the discovery of the bodies- and all the bodies have been fresh. The youngest daughter of the city mayor is the latest to disappear. In desperation, he calls bounty hunters, fortune seekers, detectives- anyone who could help find his daughter....

Okay, in this game, the point is to discover the serial killer. Your motivations are your own, but the only movements of the killer will be posted by me. You can hunt alone or in groups, but you will all get individual messages (through PM) each time you stumble on a lead, or with tip-offs. Nothing will be shown through the mind of the serial killer, save for the hints they have given so far. If you don't catch the killer, or don't discover the girl's hiding place, she will die, and the killer will find a new victim. Every so often, I'll post a countdown on how many days you have. Each person will get a few private details on the case- you can only share them with another player if your character would. Try to stay somewhat believable too. More details on request.

Name: Detective Jonathan Flannery

Description: 6' even, short sandy brown hair, reddish brown eyes, average build, 2" scar on his left forearm, typically wears black or blue slacks and lightly colored long sleeve button up shirts and a tie (not uncommon to see him with the sleeves rolled up, or the top couple buttons undone with the tie lose or off, or with a beige overcoat), black fedora.
Personality: He's a cop with a heart of gold who's seen too much over the years and it shows most of the time. Has no patience for bureaucracy and is always happy to express it. Morbid sense of humor developed from years on the job.
Other: Jon partakes of just about every legal vice there is in his time off. He drinks, he smokes, he sleeps around. Anything to blur his mind away from the job when he's not working a case. He sobers real fast and almost never has a hangover, though.

Description: A shady looking character with a haggard face, looking much older than he really is. Usually wears a trench cloak and a matching hat, looking like someone out of a detective movie. Unfortunately, that's quite the opposite of the true description of this man. Very noticeable weapons on his person, two revolvers and a dagger.

Personality: A mystery to most, and that's his personality. He's very cold and distant, not offering much at all about his past to anyone. It's strongly assumed by most people that he works for the mob, and is pretty high up in the ranks, though not near enough to the leader yet to make a decent run. Very dangerous and irritable. Other than that, this poorly described character doesn't have much in the matter of personality.

Other: Nil. It may be that he knew one of the two earlier (noticed) victims.

One thing that I hope will sustain interest will be if you run out of ideas of what to post, you'll get more hints and clues PMed to you. Clues will be sent randomly- in fact, I'm going to assign each character a number and roll a die to pick who gets the next hint.

Name: Kitty Lang

Occupation: College Librarian
Motivation: Curiosity and an unhealthy longing for adventure.
Description: Tall, almost six feet, her skin is slightly pale, and her figure skinny but strangely fit. She has slightly frizzy brown hair just past her shoulders which she often keeps tied up in a loose ponytail. Her bright green eyes hide behind a pair of oval-shaped wire-framed glasses. She dislikes bulky clothing, as well as restrictive clothing, avoiding sweaters, loose jeans, sweat-suits, and the like. Instead she prefers form-fitting shirts with flexible pants or skirts. Her fashion sense, however, is less than spectacular, often resulting in a clashing outfit.
Personality: Quiet and reserved most of the time, but will open up if people decide to talk to her. She has a lot of useless knowledge, so if you give her the right motivation she could converse with you for hours. Has always been a dreamer, and in her younger years loved to fade into her books.
Other: Complete nerd and bookworm, and will often spout trivia if given the chance. She is also (surprisingly) a Black Belt in Karate, because her mother wanted her to be able to defend herself; she still keeps in shape and practices daily (more out of habit than anything).
