Exclamation And after over 10 years... Mega Man 9!

I am not kidding around here. At very long last, Capcom has finally made a new game for the original, one and only, Serial# DLN001 Rockman/Mega Man! Mega Man 9 is apparently being handled by Keiji Inafune himself and Inti Creates, the development team most known for the Mega Man Zero and ZX series. The graphics, an a rather bold move, will be in the original 8-bit format of the NES games (though whether it's the same graphics or touched up to fit the new hardware is yet to be seen). The music and any cutscenes will match this, of course.

The new Robot Masters (undoubtedly DWN065-072, despite the plot as we all know better ) are Magma Man, Concrete Man, Hornet Man, Galaxy Man, Jewel Man, Plug Man, Tornado Man, and Splash Woman. Yes, after 70 tries, there's an actual female Robot Master (not that we're gonna be able to tell with the 8-bit sprites...)

The plot, as we know it, is that the aforementioned set of 8 go berserk, but Wily denies responsibility and Dr. Light gets blamed, so it's Mega Man to the rescue as usual. Those of us who know Mega Man games better can probably see WilyMachine MK-9 and WilyCapsule MK-6 coming a mile away, though.

It seems the game will be released solely on a download basis, only being available for X-Box Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Wii Ware. This kinda screws me over, as my internet connection isn't exactly friendly to any of those (sucky dial-up is sucky). I'm sure I'm not alone, though... In any case, it's a VERY long-awaited sequel to one of the series that made Capcom great. Now if only it would come out as an actual console release (or even DS would be nice...)

This seems like it would be pretty cool for fans nostalgic for older mega man games. I personally suck at Mega Man games so I'll end up skipping it unless it's under $10.

That's good news, the original series was always my favorite by far. I also find it excellent that it's a classic 2D game, the only proper way for any Mega Man game in my book (except the Legend series, which I found lots of fun). The downloading factor isn't a problem for me though it suprises me, probably they think they won't sell too many copies of it on shelves.

Where did you learn about this game?

It's actually all over the Mega Man sites if you know where to look. Mega Man Network has most of the pertinent info for you, and they even have an article from Nintendo Power about the game (and naturally, they only mention Wii Ware).

I'm hoping they do decide to physically release it at some point if sales are good enough. It would help me a little... (Not to mention it would make better sense to eventually make hard copies, with the way technology can be...)

The idea that WiiWare can allow developers to get away with making new, old-school games certainly gets me interested. Never had a crack at Mega Man, but there are a couple other old series that I wouldn't mind getting a new edition...

Well if you want your chance at the original series, I'm sure if you look hard enough you might be able to find copies of the Anniversary Collection (which has 1-8, though the Game Cube version does have control issues), plus the older NES games are starting to be made for the Virtual Console.

It certainly is interesting what the download services are allowing game developers to do. Of course, for those of us with limited downloading capability (read as: still on dial-up), it's a pain...
