"You have never met me, nor I you... not yet, anyway. You may call me the Alchemist." The old man paused for breath. "I have seen wonders in my life that would amaze, and terrors that would break a man. Fire has seared my lungs, water filled them, dirt has filled my mouth, and the very breath of life I have tasted. I've been blinded by the purest light, and crushed by pure darkness. Yes, I have lived... I have lived as few others ever will. You have the chance now to follow in my footsteps. Not completely... No, I do not trust my full power to any one person, but you shall have a taste.
"Your task is to find the others like you. They could live next door... or you may have to cross the globe to find them. When you have gathered, you must seek me out for your final blessing, to gain your final power. In time, you will have heirs of your own, but that is a trial for another day."
Again, the old man paused, blinking obviously blind eyes. You cannot tell quite how ancient he is, but it is apparent that he has seen much over a long lifetime. Perhaps his claims are actually true... but then, how could they be?
"Tell no one of what I have blessed you with. How do you find the others, you ask? In time, you will be able to see with your heart, and you will feel the pull of your fellows. Pray that you do not take too long, however; my time is running short, and you must ALL be here for the final blessing, or my power will fade from this world... and yours with it. Until then.... farewell, and good luck."
The disk ends, and you are left to ponder your thoughts. Are you excited by the thought of power beyond your wildest dreams? Frightened at the possibilities? Worried that you cannot find the others in time? Do you not even bother to seek out others, perhaps condemning them and their new found powers? What you do now is entirely up to you.
This is an RPG focusing more on character development than character interaction, and as such will be driven by the individual, at least in the beginning. I ask that only those truly dedicated sign up. With that in mind, I also hope that we all have fun kicking some serious ass here. =D

Name: Vivian Fay
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Appearance: Vivian is about five foot seven, average weight, with silver-rimmed glasses (which she is known to fiddle with habitually), bright cat-green eyes, and fair complexion. Her hair is currently black on top, and deep red underneath in back. Faded freckles can be seen over her cheeks, nose, and shoulders, though it's apparent that it's been some time since she spent any real time in the sun (at least, without sunscreen; mustn't forget it!). Her ears are pierced twice on the left, three times on the right, and she has her left eyebrow pierced. Her right arm has a vine tattoo winding around from her wrist all the way to her shoulder. Her back is a mass of symbols, script in other languages, and pictures that make no sense at first, or second, glance. One could spend hours going over the designs there and still find something new.
Personality: Vivian goes through life to her own beat, as if she's listening to music that only she can hear, and her actions are a dance to it. She's a free spirit, and isn't afraid to make her mind known to those around her. She's quirky, passionate, bold, die-hard, and loves every minute of it. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone more alive than she is. She lives to experience life to the fullest extent, and gods forbid that you try to persuade her otherwise. She's a source of comfort, joy, and healing to her friends, and she has many of those.
Element: Fire
History: Nothing out of the ordinary; family with three pets (cats, of course), two kids (Vivian has a younger brother), grew up in suburbia. Her parents don't understand her religious/spiritual shift from Christianity, and continuously try to coax her back to it. She either ignores this or laughs it off, going along on her own path.
Other: None yet.

I pulled the DVD out of the player, pondering. I checked the envelope; of course, there was no return address. The background of the video could have been the inside of any old man's house, so that didn't help. It was disquieting, having a random old man send me a disk, telling me that I was going to inherit some powers or something... and he also knows my name and where I live. That was the worst part of the situation; what else did he know about me? I had an impulse to call the bank and check my money, though something also told me that I was safe.
He said that my task was to find others like myself, and that somehow I would know them. I thought on this. The city in which I lived, and the surrounding suburbs, were home to well over a million people, perhaps two or three. In the world, there were billions of people... who spoke many different languages. Did this guy expect me to drop everything and travel the globe on a wild goose chase? What were the chances of running into these people, especially if THEY were also running around in search. It didn't sound at all promising to me...
"In time, you will be able to see with your heart, and you will feel the pull of your fellows..." I sat back down on the couch, closed my eyes, and waited. For several minutes, there was nothing... then... perhaps... a slight spark...
Maybe there was something to this whole deal, after all.

Eventually, the sun set, and I grew restless. It was Wednesday, and I was off work... though I considered going in just for the hell of it. Most people avoid thier workplace whenever possible, but as a club DJ, my workplace was FUN. I got to wear what I wanted, play what I wanted, and just goof off in general. Tonight was just an open door night, rather than a goth night that restricted access to those within the scene, but it was still tempting. The old man could wait; I wanted to have some fun.
Picking out the outfit was both tiresome and entertaining at the same time. The selection was wide, and going through everything at least once (occasionally twice or more) could take quite a while. Yet I enjoyed it. I eventually selected one of my favorite PVC dresses and heeled platform boots that buckled up the side to go with. I then spent at least an hour perfecting my makeup... By the time I was ready, it was well after dark, but all the better. Sliding into my car and wedging my legs under the steering wheel, I cranked the music and let my spirit flow... It was going to be a hell of a night.
(If only I knew how true that would prove to be...)
While the DVD said that we were spread worldwide, I think it would be better if we were all within the same general area and randomly bump into each other before we figure out who the others are. *shrugs* If that's OK with everyone. If you have a plan, then go with it.
