    Default Fun Sold Separately

OK, so, you guys know that I got an Xbox360 about 6 months ago, right?

I'm considering selling it. Actually, I'm pretty sure I AM going to sell it. The dilemma I have is that, rather than just take the money and run, I'm tempted to trade it and my games in for a PS3.

    Is it worth it?

If you don't really like your 360 you're not gonna like the PS3. 95% of the games are the same. The only thing the PS3 has over the Xbox is Blu Ray. If you really want Blu Ray I say go for it. Otherwise the PS3 is a more expensive Xbox with poor online service and MGS.

The thing is that I've bought very few of those same games the systems share due to how expensive the games are and refusing to hand over $50 for a one-year Gold account. My 360 library is essentially Assassin's Creed, Burnout Paradise, Fallout 3, Dead Rising, DMC4, and online-less Turok. Halo 3 came and went, and I can't remember anything else I've bought for the console, including XBLA titles. No Bioshock. No GTAIV. No COD4. No Mirror's Edge. No Mass Effect. No Dead Space. No Left 4 Dead. No Orange Box. None of it.

Blu-Ray means nothing to me. The PS3's free online (free and shitty > overpriced and a bit less shitty, IMO), cheaper games, LittleBigPlanet, inFamous, and several PSN games are what it has over Micro$oft's ticking red time bomb.

Taking all that into account, is it worth it?

Personally, I probably would prefer the PS3, mostly for the fact that it doesn't have the red ring of death and there's no chance of it scratching your games.

Going with what you're saying I'd say it's not worth it unless you expect LBP and Infamous to be absolutely amazing. I haven't picked up LBP yet due to lack of funds but I know a couple of people who were expecting to love it wound up not really liking it. Also games aren't cheaper for PS3. New games are 60 bucks for each system.

Where I live, new Triple-A titles for the Xbox360 cost $70-$80.

So the PS3 has one positive vote and one negative vote... Anybody else who owns either of the systems have anything to contribute?

I don't, but Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction should be worth the switch.

I kinda collect videogame consoles, and I have never even considered selling one. My collection is still small and I'd like to get X-Box 360 myself. Now if you asked me to contribute, I just say I think the new version of Playstation 3 sucks because the PS1 and PS2 games don't work at all. I know nobody has thrown your Playstation 2 away like someone did to me, but what if your console gets too old and can't handle the games anymore. Of course, this can be argued because:

    1) Sony should bring re-releases of its older games too PS3, if they are clever enough (OK, I don't really know if they do that)
    2) All the PS1 and 2 games didn't work on the older PS3 either, if you remember my complain topic from more than a year ago

But Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction? Are you sure our Mario-fan with that broadsword would like that?

I don't know if this post brought anything new to the conversation, but at least I tried.

For me it was an easy choice, since I have a top end PC I have no need for the X-Box and the PS3 at least has a single good exclusive title (MGS4).

So the PS3 would get my vote. But the others are right of course, the game libraries of the two systems is almost identical.

Hey, I'm as much a Mario fan as he is. I just don't want to be lynched for being narrow-minded.

Unless you're a big fan of JRPGs (and I'm sure you're not), the 360 isn't going to be much more impressive than the PS3. To tell you the truth, I definitely see Sony losing more to Microsoft in the future. Home isn't what Sony said it would be, but you're probably not interested in Home.

Well, there's still downloadable movies. *laughs nervously*

PS3 is better. Admittedly, I hate all things Xbox, but still. Also: Little Big Planet? Is farking awesome. Especially if you're doing more than one player; it's hilarious. Plus, the level-making is FUN.

PS3 also gets two versions of FFXIII rather than the single one that Xbox is getting; not like you'll care Blade, but it's still a big plus. Especially since Versus XIII (the PS3 exclusive one) looks like the better of the two.

You might also be able to pick up a back-compatible PS3 too. You'll want the older 60gb ones, mind, but still.

That's fine with me - I'm a Nintendo kid who was raised kinda poor up until about age 10 and is scared shitless of change. Ergo, I never had a PSX or a PS2. So I have no backwards-compatible games anyway.

Hey, as long as PSN works and I can download my Symphony of the Night and Super Stardust HD, I'm fine with Home being a broken pile of stray data. Remember, I'm a Nintendo-kid. I'm not used to all the bells and whistles Microsoft and Sony attached to their systems.

HEY! For your information, Little Miss Snarky Arse, I'm buying FFXIII when it comes out so I can get a taste of what the FFverse is like and why so many people like it.

This is actually a big supporting clause for me. See, I did some research on Wikipedia a little while ago, and lo and behold - when the 360's non-exclusive titles and games I can play on a system I already own are stripped away, take a look at the end result:

    PS3's titles:

    -Alone in the Dark: Inferno
-Battlefield: Bad Company (w/ free online)
    -Bionic Commando
    -Bioshock
    -COD4 (w/ free online)
    -Castlevania: SotN(PSN)
    -Civ Rev
    -Clive Barker's Jericho
    -Crash Bandicoot(PSN)
    -Dead Space
    -FFXIII
    -GTAIV (w/ free online)
    -I Am Alive
    -inFamous
    -LittleBigPlanet
    -Metal Gear Solid 4
    -Mirror's Edge
    -Ninja Gaiden Sigma
    -Orange Box (w/ free online)
    -Prince of Persia
    -Ratchet & Clank
    -Resident Evil(PSN)
    -Soulcalibur IV
    -Super Stardust HD(PSN)
    -Timesplitters 4
    -Wolfenstein

    Xbox360's titles:

    -Banjo-Kazooie(XBLA)
    -Braid(XBLA)
    -Castle Crashers(XBLA)
    -Duke Nukem 3D(XBLA)
    -Left 4 Dead (w/ $50 a year online)
    -Mass Effect

Eight exclusives, including 4 full triple-A titles, and four multiplayer games that are 100% free, versus 6 exclusives, the only major titles of which are available for the PC as well, and $50 a year for ONE game. Two if you include the copy of Turok I already own.

Now, knowing ALL of that, which is the better choice? Do I stick with the 360, bypass 3 games that I really wanna play, and shell out $50 a year for a system that initially ran me over $350? Or do I sell the console and games to Gamestop for $200+, buy the cheapest model PS3, and start actually ENJOYING a console that wasn't made by Nintendo?

If you aren't happy with your 360 I'd bet money you won't be happy with a PS3. The only two effective differences between the systems are the controller and how they handle online. With very few exceptions you're going to be playing the same games on either. By that I don't just mean the same titles I mean the same type of games. With very few exceptions you can't find a type of game on one that isn't represented by a like type of game on the other.

HAY GUYS I BOUGHT AN XBOX360 YESTERDAY.
I THINK I HAVE TO RETURN IT BECAUSE IT'S NOT WORKING TODAY.

Blade man, I don't know what you ended up doing, but I say fuck the Xbox. Within a day's worth of use, already my controller is constantly disconnecting on me with a frequency spanning between thirty minutes and roughly one second. It's not easy to find an answer to this dilemma because most people offer 'change the batteries'. I smile when I hear that all of the people who say this never stop to consider that that's the most useless advice you could possibly bestow upon me.

So now I'm in the same boat as you. When I get the option for a replacement (I don't care whether it's the controller or the console, I'm not keeping that piece of shit), I find myself asking... do I really want another one? I've been a Nintendo gamer for nearly twenty years and the biggest gripe I have is unreliable online capabilities. I've been a Microsoft gamer for one day and either my controller or my system is FUBAR.

No wonder I'm a Nintendo fanboy.

This is, without a doubt, the worst generation of consoles. The Wii turned out to be a gimmicky piece of crap with about 1 good game for every 500 crap waggle ones, the 360 has more technical issues than the Space Shuttle Challenger, and the PS3 is way, way overpriced. There is no 'winner' in this console war. The only victory here is the lessons people can learn for the next generation, such as 'Don't give developers an excuse to churn out shovelware', or 'Make sure the console works before putting it on the market' or 'Don't make your hardware and software so expensive only the 5 richest kings of Europe can afford it'.

I have both a Wii and a 360 and I must say I prefer the 360, even though I initially thought the Wii would be cooler, except the only games I like are the ones that don't use the stupid waggle. My friend has a PS3 and there really is no discernible difference between it and the 360, apart from the price-tag and a few exclusives. I'd bitch about the 360 forcing you to pay to use the online, but I don't really have the time or inclination to play online with consoles.

I sold that fucker on eBay for $185 and the games to Gamestop for about $60 more. Used that to buy an 80GB PS3.

Currently I own The Orange Box, Sonic Unleashed, Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, GTA IV, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. I've also downloaded Super Stardust HD and Blast Factor, 'cuz I just love blowing things up.

Maybe Nintendo wouldn't publish so many crappy games if people didn't buy them because of the cheap price. And because they were easier to play. The hardcore gamers are complaining about the lack of, well, hardcore material. But they're being silenced by all these other people who think Wii Sports is a challenge.

So yeah, I think this is a crappy generation too. But as long as I have my DS, I'm not completely miserable.

Nope, the hardcore gamers are silencing themselves and they're being stupid. They silence themselves by having hardcore games come out that don't sell. Games like No More Heroes, Madworld, and Zack and Wiki. Hardcore gamers want the core Nintendo franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. They're being stupid because they claim Nintendo isn't making there games anymore but there are just as many hardcore games on the Wii and coming out for the Wii as there was on the gamecube and N64. Nintendo is just making casual crap like the Wii title series on top of those old games.

Sorry if the rant is wall of text. I am just tired of people bitching about Wii's game library. It's no fucking worse than they're last two systems.

I had a nice surprise regarding Sony some time ago. A friend of mine bought Metal Gear Solid 4 and played it with my Playstation 3. It updated the console and at least some of the problems with old PS2 games like Ratchet & Clank ...disappeared!! I have yet to test all the games, but it feels great!

    Thank you, PNT510.

I initially made this for /v/, but it applies here as well. I can't really measure "hardcore," but I can measure M-rated titles. This is the result:

I know I missed a few games, but am I the only one that sees the hypocrisy here? PNT510 hit the nail on the head. The hardcore crowd is getting MORE attention than they used to, and they're COMPLAINING more as a result. No wonder Nintendo drop-kicked them to the curb.

    North American video game
    North American

Sega and Nintendo are not American.

Therefore still not the worst generation

Which really puts things into perspective. This generation is so bad it can't be even better than the generation where most NA companies went bust?

There are some quality games on the Wii, but it has the most shovelware of any console in recent history. Even the DS and GBA, which both see more than their fair share of shovelware, are eclipsed by the sheer volume of crap that the Wii sees. For every decent game, there are at least 50 'Wii Dunk your Donut in your Coffee' or 'Wii Throw a Shoe at George Bush' style games. Add that with the fact at least half of the games you mentioned are vastly superior in quality on other platforms and you can see why people feel ripped off. Nintendo first introduced the 'Seal of Quality' as a response to the video game crash of 83, and now they let anything past. Sorry, but if they refuse to license AO games that are actually quality, they ought to refuse to license shit games. That way, developers will actually put some thought into a game before dropping several million on a game that might not even get past quality control.
