Red face The end of TPM?

So. This is two pronged. FirePokemon/Connor has said a few times that TPM should shut up shop. It's an interesting idea.

If you were going to shut down TPM, when would you do it? Case for/against.
If you were going to shut it - Why. Keep it - Why?
What would you do without TPM?

Perhaps... I suppose if it was going to be shut, I'd do it a few months after HG/SS is released in the US. Maybe the 1 year anniversary of it.

Get on with life, but keep in touch with some of the people I've met through TPM who are fantastic. Tony, Tara, Kristian, Soo. And the rest.

I don't want TPM to shut down now and I use to say TPM should shut down merely to be a dickhead. I would shut it down if somehow it was only me here but otherwise no. Even if it grows a real slow death regardless of anything else it'll still exist in five years.

The truth is I can survive rather easily without TPm having had to do so for a few months now. I still enjoy the place and the nostalgia and I still think we can continue to exist. Sure I'd miss the place. But if TPM went now I wouldn't cry about it. I do other stuff online and of course there is off-line activities.I likely wouldn't keep in touch with anyone except maybe via IRC. I don't use instant messengers anymore or anything like that and no one contacts me if I'm on one anyway.

BTW Andrew Tara = Pancake? Soo = mistysakura??? who are the other two?

Meh, I don't see much sense in closing TPM. Like it has been said before in this topic, what is there to gain by closing TPM? We may as well just let TPM live out it's life naturally, if it does eventually die, then I suppose at least it will go out on its own terms. But as long as there is a glimmer of life here, I think that it is worth hanging on to it. Don't get me wrong though, I am not saying we should just let TPM fade off and die, I think that we all should try our best to improve things as long as we are all here.

That being said, I would be sad if TPM would disappear. This place is my online home, There is no message board that I have even come close to spending as much time at, and if TPM were to go away, I just know that there would never be a place that would be as special to me. I have almost been here for 9 years. I couldn't even imagine starting a 9-year run at another message board. I'm getting too old, you know? That being said, I would love to keep in contact with my TPM friends if TPM died, but unfortunately people seem to eventually disappear in the online world. There are so many people from here who I simply have no idea what happened to them. I would love to hear from them again sometime.

As for what I would do without TPM... it is hard to say that my real life would change a ton, I mean, I don't spend so much time on TPM that it causes me to do nothing but sit in front of my computer all day, but I spend enough time here to still feel like I am a part of the community. I am sure that real life will keep me busy enough!! I would be sad without TPM, and I am sure that I would still reminisce about it once in awhile throughout the rest of my life. I know that everything comes to an end someday, but I hope that TPM's ending isn't something that I have to worry about for a long time.

Andrew, you appear out of nowhere and say TPM should be shut down? No way! I have loads of ideas how we can bring more activity here, and we have new members who love ASB!

I know I would get plenty of free time back if TPM didn't exist. I'd play more videogames, watch anime, study Japanese, draw and so on. But somehow my life would be empty.

Everyone should join Facebook then, TPM is my only way to contact members like Austrian ViceMaster Alex. I do have talked with Crazy Elf Boy and shazza on Facebook.

Here's a crazy proposition: if you've grown tired of TPM, sure you can shut this down, but those who want to carry on, form a new message board. TPM2 or something. I could try and be a webmaster! Blademaster, shazza and firepokemon would be admins. OK, perhaps we wouldn't get anywhere with that plan...

Keeping TPM open. This place is like a glorious city that became deserted and then a bunch of ragtag morons came along and colonized it. We're like a Spaghetti Western, or the ghetto. We don't have much here, but we got each other. That's why we stick around here. It's our old hangout.

It's probably for the best to close TPM. Nobody has really shown much prolonged interest in that TPM revival project, and everybody remaining will progressively grow out of this place soon enough...

Besides, Jay will destroy TPM soon enough anyway. Better close it before then. :/

I say keep it open, because I've got too much pointless history amassed to lose it all now. Like Blade said, we're a ragtag bunch of misfits and we ain't got much, but it's ours all the same.

Besides, I have faith in our website revival team, working hard for lazy bastards like me to benefit from.

btw Andrew, I'm so taking credit for luring you back.

The TPM forums has survived for years without any main site. If the 'TPM Revival Project' fails, I have no doubt the forums will still continue, as long as Kevin is willing to keep it running. Approaching a decade for some (which is fucking crazy, man), members have remained in the long run due to the familiarity, the nostalgia, and the history surrounding the forum itself and the members that keep it alive. The majority of us have established ourselves as unique members throughout the years and feel comfortable to contribute.

To close it now would only be for the sake of closing it; nothing would be gained, only lost. Why do it when there's still life? Numerous old members are still active and there has been a modest growth of new members (ASB Crew). Moreover Kevin doesn't pay any server fees, so there is no expense whatsoever to keep it open.

Saying that, if it were to close I'm sure I would survive as I'm not addicted - like I was in the early 2000's - but I would be disappointed as this forum to me will always be my 'home forum'.

I don't think this place should ever shut down, I loved this place 8-9 years ago when I first joined (under a now deleted account) and I found this place 8-9 years later and I feel nostalgia comeing to me, deleteing this is like deleteing the great times I had here.

I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the title. Where would I go if TPM shut down? Quite a few places actually but I've made this place one of my homes and I would be crushed if it was closed down.

Besides, this place has been up for 39 years, why let another forum be the longest running forum on the net?

To me, TPM is like my first internet home (another gaming site comes a close second), like a real home, it would be hard to give up TPM, so I don't want to even think of it disappearing someday, I mean, with all the great people here, I could risk losing touch with some of them, e.g. some people who don't have AIM or MSN, or some people who have either without me knowing, besides, with next year being the year all of us who joined in 2000 celebrate 10th anniversaries (myself included ), falling short of 10 would hurt, and I can only imagine how someone else from 2000 here would feel if TPM wasn't here next year.

Blade kinda said it best, really.

TPM is my internet home and has been since I was 13 years old. That's a lot of history and memories and crap. Intellectually, I'd probably be alright if it shut down; emotionally, it would probably affect me quite deeply for a little while.

Without TPM I'd probably go crazy. You guys keep me sane with your insanity.

If something happened and the place was closed down for good, I'd definitely keep in touch with the close friends I've made on this board. Moreover, the writing community here is pretty strong irrespective of the fact that we've moved on from pokemon, so I'd probably try to regroup with that whole crowd and create a new writing/fanfic forum where we could all continue to hang out and be crazy together.

I wouldn't ever have this place shut down. I may no longer be any kind of "Pokemon fanatic", but the people I've met here have impacted my life one way or another over my nigh ten year tenure. There are absolutely countless memories involving sheep, fans (as in the object that moves air), n00bs, randoms, Elitists, muffinmen, silly online drama, marriages, etc that I would personally like to see preserved until the end of time. A lot of those memories are preserved here, in the archives, as I no longer have the computer that the majority of the quotes and such were saved on. I think that if there was a prospect of TPM shutting down, I would attempt to take over Kevin's role. Though I'm sure someone could do it much better than I, if I was the only one volunteering to do so, or only the first, I would happily take on the responsibility.

TPM is a milestone for the internet, whether anyone actually realises it. I would venture to speculate that it is in the top ten of longest-existing forums in the history of the internet. No reason to shut it down now.

However, if for some reason TPM was shut down, I would go on living as I have since my less-than-permanent departure from the sanctity of these forums. I would survive, keeping in touch with some of the members, past and present, that I still talk to occasionally.

    Try again.
I'm not as nice. I'm joking. Really I am.

To get back on topic, if TPM were to shut down, I have other places that I could visit to occupy my time, though they are not nearly as fun and entertaining as TPM.

But in all reality, TPM has been my second home since 2001, and I would not want it to shut down. There is quite a bit of history here for me-from the RPGs I've been in years ago, to the posts I read while I'm lurking around here (At 3 in the morning ). TPM has been a part of me.

I highly doubt TPM is in the top 10 oldest forums on the entire internet.

TPM can't be deleted! There's something homey about this black and grey and blue theme that makes my lil heart go :3 Different members? Hosted elsewhere? Who cares. Pop it on an ezboard (err whatever they changed into) and leave it if no one wants to "own" it. Though I admit if the pokemon related forums were deleted I wouldn't notice/care. This place hasn't been related to pokemon to me (other than sigs and stuff) in like 6 years.

No one really cares about thread hijacking anymore unless it's important, look at confessions. :/
