It's that time of the year where scary things happen, so you know. Um, yeah. Silent Hill all the way for me. I expect a fiery debate

Silent Hill has by far the creepier setting and atmosphere than Resident Evil. The Resident Evil games (especially the earlier ones) are overall the better games though. I've given my vote to Resident Evil though as I have simply more knowledge about those games and pretty much played through them all.

I havn't played the whole series, but Resident Evil is fun I'll admit. I recall the first one giving me nightmares for years :3 I was wee and impressionable.

But I highly reconmend you playing Silent Hill through ^w^ In the dark and prehapse upside down. I know one well enough to do that. Play upside down, its trippy. I could never do that to two, my face is too glued to the screen :B

I've given two RE games and 1 Silent Hill game a try. Both RE games were frustrating pains in the ass to control, be it due to the earlier game's sucktastic camera or the latter game's annoying AI second player that you have to lead around.

The Silent Hill game I haven't touched in months, but it actually spooked me a bit. I've got to go with Silent Hill because it has a better track record for me.

Most excellent! I can't seem to recall if the Resident Evil games had bad camreas....I havn't played the early ones in such a long time.

RELEVANT TO MY INTERESTS.

So I went with Resident Evil. Cos I'm a chicken who shrieks when fucking plant tentacles lunge at me through paintings (LOOKIN AT YOU, CODE VERONICA -_-) and screams when Hunters leap through glass windows, and shits herself when she falls through wooden floorboards. So I am far too scaredy to play Silent Hill.

Also, I was pulled in by the Wesker factor. Cos you know, he's epic and amazing and I think I love him... I finished RE1 in an afternoon, RE2 the next day, Nemesis took longer cos of the ARGH FUCKING STARS~ and I'm currently adoring Code Veronica with intentions for RE4 at the weekend, once I'm done with CV, and then eventually RE5, which, while it's meant to be rubbish, HAS WESKER IN.

Oh and yes, the cameras aren't amazing. And nor are the controls. But you get used to the weirdness of controls soon enough, and the voice acting in RE1 makes up for it!

I like the Resident Evil storylines and that they are trying to inject some freshness into the series, but still keeping it to the source of what made the games popular (the surprises, etc).

Silent Hill is great as well, but when you have a series named after the fictional town it's supposed to be based in, it probably isn't wise to make a game in the series not take place in that town....

But but but.. I hear that they took out typewriters in RE5!! I MEAN, WTF MATE. And setting it in like... the open air is a bit weird. Even in Nemesis there were lovely claustrophobic looming buildings for the outside bits. :/

True, RE5 was different and not my favorite RE by far, but I've found myself enjoying most of the RE games, whereas I only enjoyed a couple of the SH ones.

Of course, I think SH has more to work with as far as what they can do...considering the whole supernatural aspect.

Haven't played either because horror really isn't my thing (I went to "the scariest haunted house in the Southeast" and spent my time trying to borrow the chainsaw props from the actors and generally irritating them while my dad threw things at their heads); I did kind of get sucked into the Silent Hill Wikipedia articles earlier this year, though, and they looked interesting. Couldn't play any of them at the time, of course--don't own a 360 or PS3, the PS2 is in my brother's room and the older ones would never be allowed anywhere near him and we wouldn't be able to save the original one anyway without a PS1 memory card. Now that they're rereleasing the original SH on the Wii, though, I might give it a shot.

Never looked into Resident Evil at all.
