The 2011 Silver Pencil Awards – Nominations Topic!

Welcome fanficcers to the next stage of the 2011 Silver Pencil Awards - the Nominations round.

Brian (mr_pikachu) and I have taken your suggestions from the last round on board, and have come up with a revised list of awards categories.

You have two weeks to nominate the fic, character, moment, writer or general TPM member that you believe is the most deserving to win that category.

The rules for nominations are pretty standard:

~ Post your nominations in this thread.

~ Each person may make one nomination per category.

~ You may nominate in as many or as few categories as you like.

~ No self-nominations are allowed.

~ Since the last awards were in January 2010, nominations are open to any work that has been updated since 1st January 2010. This eligibility period also applies to fic moments and other time-specific nominations (like Best Newcomer).

~ All nominations must be posted in this topic by Monday, 29th August, 2011.

Best Writing Style – Malice Afterthought (by Dragonfree) – Easy to read, simple and effective.

Best Plot – Lisa the Legend (by Gavin Luper) - *sniff* how much you’ve grown Lisa.

Best Poem – After The Carnival (by Oslo) – OK, this piece gives an epic story and it has a very interesting view in terms of reality.

Best E-Zine Article - Why write Fanfiction?: Muse - April 2010 issue (by Chris 2.1) - Every writer has asked this question, and Chris took the opportunity to bring a great article about it.

Most Likely to Cause The Universe to Explode – Asilynne (Let’s face it, who doesn’t feel at ease with Asi. I think if she were to leave, the universe will definitely explode, XD)

A quick point, which I believe we neglected to mention -- for the Silver Pencils this year, the period of eligibility is from January 2010 through now.

That means that for a fic to be nominated, it must have been updated since January 1, 2010. For a fic moment to be nominated, that moment must have been posted after that date. Other time-specific awards work the same way -- for instance, with the "Best Newcomer" category, a nominated member must have joined after the above cutoff.

I'm sorry that wasn't in the initial post; we'll get it updated.

I have a few questions:

-If I’m not mistaken, E-zine was changed to muse, so can those be nominated too? Yes, but only from the January 2010 issue since that is the only one within the eligibility timeframe.
-Some nominations might be considered old (for example: the e-zine article). Can they still be nominated? (already answered)
-Kind of a dumb question but Short Stories (one, or two piece) can still be nominated, right? Yes, absolutely, for any category that they might still fit into (eg. best character in a leading role, etc etc.)

Actually, there was an April 2010 issue of the Muse, as well... that's where my Best E-zine Article nomination originated, actually. The January and April issues both fall into the eligibility timeframe.

Nice! I was just wondering, are we allowed to post small arguments to back up our nominations? Like why would a certain TPMer cause universe to explode? I mean, in Unown Awards threads, we have traditionally seen small arguments on some of the nominations, in both the nomination and voting phases. Given that the voting phase will be secret (or at least I recall it was secret the last time was involved, is it?) I'm really interested if we are allowed to post the arguments in line with our nominations.

I hope I explained that well enough, I might need a dictionary to back up my expression 'small arguments that back up our nominations'. Also, sorry if this should have been asked before this phase.

And then again, what comes to my own nominations, be patient with them. I'll do some research that'll take more than one week, but I promise I'll have at least some nominations ready before the deadline!
