‡ Round 1 ‡
G’day, sports fans, and welcome to the ten jillionth Blitzball championships! With their eyes on the prize, six steely competitors who represent the upper-crust of ASB’s fiercest competitors enter the stadium to the roar of the crowd. Crystal Tears, Blademaster, Mew Master, RaZoR LeAf, Crazy Elf Boy and Cynder approach the massive sphere of water with Pokeballs in hand.
Well. No point in delaying this any further.
Let the games begin!
The six competitors begin hurling Pokeballs into the sphere of water as six Pokemon emerge. A Steelix, Frillish, Dewott, Bibarel, Mismagius and Dratini emerge and… wait, was that a Steelix? Fortunately, the properties of the arena permit the brutish beast to breathe in the water, though I’m not exactly sure how he feels about facing off against three Water-types. Time to see how this goes!
As the round begins, Mary Celeste drifts away from the action and finds a nice, vacant corner where she begins plotting something diabolical. Doomtrain, Preying Mantas, Kenshin and Mina all have similar agendas: they begin generating protective veils or dancing through the water like fools as part of their attempts to either secure defensive measures or up their battle stats. Castor, however, is the only one to go on the offensive. Drifting just beneath Doomtrain’s long tail, the beaver discharges a cone of electric current that fizzles against the snake’s body without effect. Doomtrain squirms and giggles. That tickled.
(On that note, I would not wish upon my gravest enemies that most terrifying sight of a giggling Steelix. Yikes.)

Kenshin: <-4 EP; +2 Att>
Castor: <-4 EP>
Mary Celeste: <-4 EP; +2 SpA>
Mina: <-4 EP; +1 Att; +1 Spd>
The action continues as Mary Celeste considers continuing her devious plotting but instead puts a pin in that plan. She watches as both Doomtrain and Preying Mantas begin swimming down toward her and she ain’t having nothing of that. She sizzles with electricity and unleashes some high-voltage upon the speedier of the two swimmers, Preying Mantas, but the jellyfish’s Safeguard renders the attack moot. Preying Mantas attacks the specter with a Burn-inducing flame while Doomtrain adds injury to injury with a brilliant blast of silver light. The Sheer Force of the attack is pretty impressive.
Meanwhile, Castor is a little irked that his previous Thunder Wave amounted to diddly-squat and instead attacks Doomtrain with a blast of icy energy. A little higher up in the sphere, Mina is boogeying along absentmindedly as her one-Pogey dance party hits a fever pitch. Work it, girl! Kenshin is a few feet away and looks as though he’s trying to pass a stone, when in reality the Dewott is simply honing his focus as much as possible. It seems to be working.

With Preying Mantas still in close proximity, Mary Celeste is beginning to feel nervous… which is only made worse as Kenshin also begins to swim down toward her to launch an assault! Madness! Mary Celeste turns her sights on the newcomer and blasts him with a Thunder Wave, which works. Kenshin’s muscles begin to feel a little more rigid but that doesn’t stop him from attempting to attack with… a Night Slash? I blow my whistle. Mind the rules! Preying Mantas also tries to attack with a super effective move which elicits another sharp blast from my reffing whistle. This is a no super effective zone.
A little higher up, the action continues. Castor curls up into a ball and gets so giddily excited by the prospect of a stat boost that she receives, well, two. Ahh, the confusing machinations of Simple minds. Doomtrain targets the beaver with a Sheer Force-boosted Body Slam only to find himself targeted by an… oh, no, that looks like an Aqua Tail. I blow my whistle, stopping the attack. Mina frowns.
