Karaoke

Okay, let's cut the opening and just say I encouraged myself to post some Misc threads. Wanted or not.
Here's the first one. Is Karaoke popular where you live? When did the boom start? What do you think of it? Here in Finland karaoke has found its way to bars and other place where people gather, like Mielikkitalo. It's even a bit annoying because we were used to silence before.
Do you like to sing karaoke? What songs have you sung? Are there pieces you'd like to find as karaoke but they don't make ones or perhaps they aren't available in your country. I'd sing more Heavy Metal but for one thing, I'm afraid it would scare people off the places I visit and for second thing, the selection isn't 'good' enough. But I'm glad I can sing Iron Maiden's Ace's High at times. And then there's my passion for anime music, and I have even made some karaoke AMVs for my own use.
