Ash, just because you're newer to ASB than I am, don't expect me to go easy on you. I'm a seasoned vet, and even if you win this one, don't expect to win it without getting a huge fight from Sabre. He's one of the Pokemon I started with back in 2005 (that's almost 10 years ago!).
Okay Sabre, I had a hunch we would have a type disadvantage, but let's make the best of it.
I want you to start with a Mega Evolve and Detect combo so that we can avoid both the Force Palm and the Toxic, then, I want you to use Me First on that Aura Sphere to leave your opponent hurting right off the bat!

Cool, thanks DarkestLight.
Hopefully this time around, my tournament luck will get better than it ever has been. It's too bad Blademaster isn't in this tournament, because I would have loved to kick his ass in payback for defeating me in the type tournament, or whatever it was called.
You and everyone else better watch it in this tournament Ash; I'm not to be taken lightly!

===Round 1===
A little late, but still on his game-I'm back to ref the third round of the Mega Tourney! We have KOT vs Ash here, and we're here to fight, not to hear me blab.
Out flips a Lucario and a Absol, both which seem to have a glint in their eye. But it's Absol who gets a smirking snarl off first. It snarls as KOT raises his Mega Stone to his bracelet, and induces the newfabled concept as Mega Evolution! Absol is encapsulated in a sphere of light, and shatters as fast as it appears. In its wake is a dual winged hunter, ready to swiftly deliver....
Lucario just slapped it in the face. Damn. Didn't really dodge that, did y--
oh...
Yeah it did. Lucario is standing with its arm outstretched, but the growling Mega Evo is slightly crouched. That's a hell of a reaction time. Must be the Detect
Lu: -4E ~~~ Sa: -6E
Bu Sabre's pristine coat was coated in a new color now. Indigo. As just as it seems to soak in, Absol merely flaps its wings and the entirety of the gunk splatters back onto the steeled fur of Lucario. Huh. Nixed there as well
Lu: -3E ~~~ Sa: n.n
Seeing this as an easy battle, Lucario crouches and begins to charge up a sphere of intense power and energy. The instant before he flings his, a similar-yet larger orb comes careening down and slams into Lucario's jaw. Lucario's own Aura Sphere however, flies off and still manages to slam into Sabre. Sabre recovers, those wings coming into play.

Uh, DarkestLight, I'm looking at your reffing here, and I'm a little baffled about the damage output on Lucario...did the use of Me First on Lucario's Aura Sphere cause Lucario 20 HP of damage, or is he actually at 87% health?
I'm curious for some clarification here before I give my next commands to Sabre.
Also, did Sabre's boost to his Attack and Special Attack come into play when he used Me First?

1) 20 hp loss.
2) Boost happened upon M.E. I just don't post it because I *think* that note is going up in possibly the reffing tower as an addendum for everyone to reference.

Okay, well thanks for clearing things up there, DarkestLight.
Sabre, we got ourselves to a good start, so let's try and keep that lead. Now that you're in your Mega form, Magic Bounce should prove very helpful here if necessary.
If he decides to Mega Evolve too, we have to take advantage of the situation, so I want you to Zen Headbutt as many times as you can. Let's try and get him to flinch at least once!
For subs, be ready to Snatch anything you can Snatch. Also, be ready to Counter any damaging move that makes direct contact (except Drain Punch; if Ricario uses that move, Earthquake, or Aura Sphere, use Me First instead to try and use one of those three moves on the Lucario first)

hmm not a bad set of commands, if, you know it weren't for Ric's typing and ability, plus the fact that Lucario's special attack is technically higher than attack... focus blast x3
plus ya know point blank range

No. Holds. Barred.
Sabre, in all its dual winged glory, tries to take advantage of Ricario's unmegarealized form. A swift dash and Ricario barely had enough time to open palm block the incoming scythe that reached in from the right. The mental energies caused Ric to quiver in pain as he held onto the barreling form, but a powerful shining light built up in those same palms. Sabre realized all too late what was about to happen.
The blast went off, and Sabre went skyward, but look at that.
Those wings work! Lucky for Sabre. That would have been a rough landing.
Ri: -9E/-10H ~~~ Sa: -5E/-22H
Taking advantage of flight for possibly the first time in its life, Sabre glid down and charged up for a second strike. Ric readies himself, crouching low in order to brace for impact. Brace he did as the collision occurred...but Ric only managed to stand his ground. Sabre wonkily flew off, and landed a few feet away, as Ric shook off the shock. Ha he flin...Oh
Maybe that was a good thing. Cause I swear Ric just seemed to throw those warm up punches faster.
Ri:-10H Fl +1Spd ~~~ Sa: -5E
The swifter Lucario readied as Sabre came in for a third charge.
You know what happened? The stuff I typed up in the first round, happened again. Crazy right? You would have never thought it!

magnet bomb x3 while keeping back if absol tries any status moves/superpower/fire blast use extremespeed to dodge
Sabre, we may be trailing here, but we can still win.
Keep going after Ricario and don't let him keep his distance from you. If he's moving, you're moving too, so when you're close enough, let him have it with a MASSIVE Flamethrower x3 combo. He seems to have forgotten Fire Blast isn't your only Fire type move, so let's try and capitalize!
Put as much power as you can into your heat, Sabre, and show this Lucario we mean BUSINESS!

For glory?
That's what it seems. There wasn't an attempt to counter, or fake each other out. They both just ran at each other and stopped within 12 yards, each charging up a devastating attack. Spheres of steel countenance flew out against a rage of flame, and both engulfed each other in a volatile matrix. The resulting explosion sent both Pokemon reeling as well as a tonnage of dirt and debris from the impact zone.
The dust, dirt and skies settle-leaving us with two grounded Pokemon, none seemingly moving.
Ri: -24E/-57H ~~~ Sa: -18E/-27H
But of course, the Megasol seems to be the victor, bruised wings twitching and them flapping to help the tired beast to its feet. Why Lucario never Megaevolved is beyond me.

Awesome, Sabre! I'm so relieved you won your first battle despite your type disadvantage (it's probably not going to be your only battle here with a type disadvantage since you're probably the biggest threat here hehe).
'waits for his victorious Mega Absol to change back to normal, before recalling him'
Uh, do I get 4 points here too (in accordance with the double point promotion)? I noticed Ayeun got points for her first win.
Well Ash, that was a good battle. I hope you learned a lot from it, because I sure did.

wait what? how did that do 50hp of damage!?
mainly because mega absol's special attack is the same as lucario's, flamethrower is a 90 power move versus the 180 power(after stab) focus blast plus the keeping back plus speed should have allowed Ric to survive with 2hp (each flamethrower averaging 16 damage)
I'm only really disappointed because I put a massive amount of thought into this strat...
and if your argument is anime physics then maximized flamethrower=fire blast

o.o You forgot the +2 SpA due to Mega Evo. +3 to each Flamethrower. It should actually be -57 :/

no, mega absol's sp attack is equivalent to lucario's normal special attack, both are 115 (absol's norm is 75) and lucario's special defense is higher than mega absol's
and again if you're arguing anime rules flamethrower at max power is literally fire blast
Ok.
1) Do not go by the games for power distribution. I generally go about 10 HP for an attack like Flamethrower-or I double the energy cost (this case 8x2=16) for an SE attack. -before any boost. Doesn't matter if if had a base special attack stat of 2 or 200.
2) When Absol mega evolved, the base power of all its SpAttacks went up by +2. So, regardless of any base stat, all its Spec moves just hyped themselves up by a faction of +2 SpA ( so like, +3 Dmg). If I (might just be me, can't speak for all refs) started including Special Defense and every other stat, we'd just be basically playing the game in text at a slower pace 'cause it would be in text. As the Anime works, suckers get burned, no matter what species of Pokemon they are.
You thought out the strategy well, had this been based on base stats. Resistances and weaknesses is what I follow
..I don't understand what you mean by Fire blast is a Max Powered Flamethrower. I mean, I think I see what you are getting at, but that's still not logic I follow....mainly because...you could have said dodge any fire attack :/

sigh, oh well then, still seems like a flamethrower combo of that magnitude would've qualified as a fire blast for the sake of the dodge, but I do get how you're doing it, on the bright side this has given me a few ideas as to some other strategies, in fact now that Ric is out of the tournament I think I'll challenge your gym once more (if you're willing to accept challenges at the moment that is)
Alright, after seeing all these posts from you two after the end of this battle, I figured I better add my two cents here.
Ash, this mainly pertains to you, so please listen well to what I want to tell you (I want to see if it'll clear up any confusion you might have here)...when it comes to comparing Fire Blast and Flamethrower, you have to realize that if a combination of two or three Flamethrowers is a square hit (e.g. not clipping them and doing less damage as a result), it'll always do more damage than a single Fire Blast that does a square hit itself. Similarly, a combination of three Fire Blasts packs more power than two or three Flamethrowers comboed together.
Also, when it comes to comparing two moves that are almost equal in their strength (one being just a little stronger than the other, like Fire Blast > Flamethrower, but also Blizzard > Ice Beam, and Thunder > Thunderbolt), they'll have different "animations"...in the case of Fire Blast and Flamethrower, one is a star shaped ball of fire (Fire Blast), while the other is a steady stream of fire (Flamethrower).
In a nutshell, there can be subtle differences between two moves of the same type that are close in their individual base powers. You just need to visualize the differences, which shouldn't be too difficult for you (it's also something handy to know when reffing a battle, so that the battlers won't mistake one move for another that is similar to it).

meh my take on the various moves is that the names are essentially an index of techniques most trainers know for easy reference, in the shows there are generally not many instances where moves such as flamethrower and fire blast look different, though many moves can vary in style between pokemon, flamethrower is an easy way of saying "high power fire stream that isn't so powerful it's hard to control" just as a move like skill swap is a "psychic link that swaps natural qualities between two pokemon" these terms would likely be created so that a trainer could easily refer to a technique in the middle of battle rather than describing the desired effect (though I will admit that fire blast usually looks like the kanji for big, it has taken the form of a stream of fire, however a major distinction is made in terms of the power and difficulty of the moves)
and with the flamethrower v fire blast, I knew three fire blasts would definitely take me out (figured 18-19 damage per) however with flamethrower I thought it would leave me with a few hp (15-16 damage per) I knew that by directly mentioning fire blast you would think of flamethrower, and I was counting on you spamming it rather than thinking and attempting a better combo(such as shock wave+thunder wave)that would cripple Ric, I helped this along by utilizing a move that could not be easily dodged, and seemed to do minimal damage (it is only 60 power[90 with STAB]) my hope was to bring your hp down low enough to where next round I could easily use an extremespeed combo finisher while you had to post your commands first
as for the dissonance between stats in games and the anime my main thought there was that if you attempted a powerful enough flamethrower for it to exceed my damage projections it would be classified as a fire blast (as in the anime) or that my assesment of various stats would be correct (as in the games), unfortunately it seems DL's reffing style is a combination of the anime and games that I did not predict, classifying moves regardless and ignoring stats
edit; I feel it necessary to point out that I do get the distinction between moves to an extent, and the flamethrower v fire blast "look" would be down to the referee deciding if a pokemon (in this case Ric) would instinctively react to a high powered flamethrower in the same manner as a fire blast or not
