The Pokémon theory to end them all..... (OR/AS SPOILERS!)

I think anyone that's a fan of the YouTube show Game Theory had to anticipate this one being brought up.....



Watch the video. No real way to abridge it. Anyway in regards to everything said: Mind=Blown.

If you stop to think about it the theory actually DOES make sense. Not only does it cover the lack of certain Pokémon in other versions, it also covers several other things as well:

-The difference in villain team in Ruby/Sapphire
-Lugia/Ho-Oh's locations in Gold/Silver
-A potential storyline reason for additions/changes from generation to generation ("discovery" of new species of Pokémon, addition of Mega Evolution, ect)

Saw this yesterday. My thought is the same as it was then: It'd be nice if people could build stories nowadays without having to resort to multiverse theory in order to handwave away all the plot inconsistencies they made in the past. Because we all know that this is, at best, Nintendo coming up with a nearly-thoughtless blanket statement to address the millions of annoying questions they get over and over again, and then putting support for it in the newest game so it looks a bit more like that was the plan all along.

Also, kind of a weak episode of GT in general, because it's just matpat telling us things that the game itself spells out. The best episodes are the ones where he goes really in-depth and uses different aspects of math, science, and various bits of lore to come up with something unexpected.

I actually have a love-hate relationship with this.

I like it because it explains a LOT, but at the same time I hate because it's TOO EASY.

It's like a band-aid, now you can reboot everything and not go crazy having to
explain EVERYTHING, especially if you didn't think that far ahead.

I like this theory... except for some small details, like where do Conquest, Colosseum/XD, and the Ranger series tie into this?

I'm not a fan of the multiverse theory

well, I guess I AM, but only for the idea of it.
It would be easy to write something off as "possible" and say it would happen in a different dimension.
However, the theory in and of itself is (in my opinion) flawed for various reasons that I won't go into on this thread.

in application to the game world, it's a harmless yet EASY write-off to explain gaps in continuity

"OH, BUT POKEMON COULDNT MEGA EVOLVE IN RUBY AND SAPPHIRE"
