Why did Ash get the badge, if Whitney only used Miltank, and Ash used Pikachu, Totodile AND Cindaquil! This makes no sense

Put it this way. Given that Cyndaquil was so easily able to blow away Nidorina and Clefairy, and Pikachu has such extreme electrical power, he likely would have blown them away with little effort.

Probobly gym rules. She's the leader, she makes the rules.

Even in the video game you can use six Pokemon to fight a gym leader with only two.

I believe in the second battle Ash said that if he and his pokemon beat Miltank, then he wanted another gym battle. Since he did then beat Miltank, Whitney decided to give Ash the badge since a third battle would have been pointless in her eyes.

Anyone remember Sabrina's Gym? She only used Kadabra, Ash used Pikachu AND Haunter. Although Pikachu is the only one that battled, Ash wouldn't have won if it weren't for Haunter... So its kinda fair, since it was approved by the leader. I guess whatever they say goes.
