Default Berry Glitch Info/FAQ (Newcomers Read This First)

Due to some threads regarding the berry glitch (aka the time glitch), I believe any newcomer whose Ruby/Sapphire games have encountered the berry glitch and wants help desperately should read this little FAQ before posting about the glitch.

Q: So, what is the Berry Glitch?

A: All I can say is that in Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire, berry trees will stop producing berries after you've played your game for one year.

Q: What?! What else will happen?

A: The berry-glitch will affect all time-related events in Ruby/Sapphire, such as:
    • Not being able to obtain berries from the Berry Master (as well as everyone else who gives you berries)
    • At Lilycove City, you won't be able to draw the lottery ticket anymore
    • After you become the Pokémon League Champion, there is a rare chance that a report of a Pokémon outbreak in a specific area will appear on TV. But after the berry glitch occurs, there will be no more TV reports like that.

Q: Will this affect the way Pokémon will appear in the wild? What about battling them?

A: No. All main game play activities, such as collecting or battling Pokémon are not affected by the glitch.

Q: Is there a way to fix the glitch?

A: Yes! There are three ways to obtain a berry patch that will update your Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire game pak(s):
    • Add Jirachi to Your Team from your Bonus Disc
If you pre-order Pokémon Colosseum, you will receive a Bonus Disc which contains a special gift -- Jirachi! You will automatically receive the berry patch upgrade when you use a Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance Cable to transfer Jirachi to your Pokémon Ruby or Sapphire Game Pak.
    • Play Pokémon Colosseum
You'll automatically receive the berry patch upgrade by using one of the connective features when you link Pokémon Ruby or Pokémon Sapphire to Pokémon Colosseum using a Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance Cable.
    • Visit EB Games or GameStop
Take your Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire Game Pak(s) to a Nintendo GameCube interactive display at either EB Games or GameStop to download the FREE upgrade.

For more info about getting the berry update, go here.

Also, feel free to hang around the forums a bit and don't be afraid to ask questions (apart from those I've answered above)

    Heh heh heh...

I've made a thread like that a month ago.

You also forgot one thing: Link to the FR/LG for it to be fixed as well.

If you mean "will the game not remember that you've already beaten a trainer?" then the answer is no. Unless a trainer asks for a rematch via the Pokénav's Trainer's Eyes, beaten trainers stay beaten. The Berry Glitch only stops the game from counting time correctly. The game doesn't have to count time to know who you've beaten.

Yes, restarting alone will not fix the glitch. You need to patch the problem by connecting your Ruby/Sapphire cartridge to Pokémon Colloseum, Fire Red/Leaf Green Version, the bonus disk you can get by preordering Colloseum or the promo event machine found in some stores that can give you a Shiny Zigzagoon. All of these carry a program that will permanently fix the problem on Ruby/Sapphire (permanently as in 'you can restart Ruby/Sapphire and the glitch still won't come back.')

Poryhedron, I think TheParadox was referring to the 69 repeat trainers. The check to see if they become available to challenge again is partially clock-related I think - certainly it is not PURELY based on visiting their area as you do occasionally get them popping up again even when you haven't been near them.

I'd imagine the glitch might mean that you'd need to visit their area to get them to repeat - but that's what you have to do anyway to have much chance of them doing so, so it may not be much of a problem.

No clock also means no tide and the Shoal cave being stuck at either high or low tide. This affects access to Shell Bells and Glalie, though you can easily stock up on them prior to the 1 year date.

Not looking forward to April when my Sapphire will go. None of the patches are easily available in Australia yet; we don't even have a release date for Colloseum.

Actually the tide in Shoal Cave still goes up and down, I have the glitch myself and I can confirm this.

No signs of a UK Bonus Disk???
Living in the UK with a US import game and no access to any kind of fix really sucks.

If the tide stills goes in & out (thanks for that cloudizme!) then the clock isn't stuffed as such, just the day counter.

Would that mean Mirage Island might still work? AFAIK the game sets a number once a day and when you have a pokémon in your party with a matching number it will appear. Depending on the actual game mechanic, it could be possible for Mirage Island to be lurking durng the endless "day" that the glitch produces.

Anyone know any different or for sure?

Still no word of UK bonus disk
DooMed Trainer said that Pokemon Colosseum had the patch on it so surely the bonus disk isn't actually needed to clear the glitch.

US versions work with the UK versions. My friend got the Eon Ticket on his US version and it works. I've traded and battled against his US version with my UK versions many times and i've come across no problems. AND they work with the UK's pal GameCubes. I don't see how you can't fix it with Colosseum.

I hope they'll do a UK bonus disk, though. I really want Jirachi... They'd better tell us soon cos it's release date is the 5th of March...

If the Berry Glitch has already occured and you get the patch, does it automatically start working like it usually does?

it probably doesn't matter whether you get your R/S game pak updated before or after the Berry Glitch takes effect, because a berry patch's a berry patch

Thanks a lot PokemonLuver, I knew that you could trade between different language carts but I thought that a US game to UK Gamecube wouldn't work.

Now I just hope we get the bonus disk.

Nintendo seem to be going all out to fix the bug - US users have about 4-5 current ways to get it fixed. I'd expect UK and other countries to have the same service when their Collosseum versions are released. Even if UK machines might need their own bonus disk, I'd expect Nintendo to produce one.

Now if you buy Pokemon Channel in the UK and complete it you'll unlock the opinion to download Jirachi to Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire. Your Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire must have completed the Elite Four to carry out the download. Once you download Jirachi it'll show a picture of Jirachi on your GBA screen saying something like, "Berry Glitch Fixed".

I just think they won't do that with Pokemon Colosseum in the UK because the Jirachi Bonus Disc in the USA also had a preview of the Jirachi Movie. In the UK we haven't even got the Lati@s Movie yet. So I just think they won't have a Bonus Disc with Pokemon Colosseum.

You don't have to reset, that doesn't fix it.

You can also send your cart to Nintendo to get it fixed.
