(Sorry, a little off-topic.)
386 means out of all 386 Pokemon.
As for best Spiker..I'm not too sure. I know the more common one would be Skarmory since its versatile, but Cloyster and Cacturne are good picks for Spikers as well. Maybe Glaile..but I don't like Glaile.......
Usually, a Spiker can drop them, and not worry about losing too much health, because they can either take the hits, or replenish their health. At least, that's what I picked up.

forretress. cloyster was the better spiker in gsc, but i give the nod to forry over both cloy & skarm
Burning in water, drowning in flame
I'd prefer Skarmory, but Forretress looks good too. Skarmory has one good trick the others do not that I'm aware of - it can learn Roar or Whirlwind (in Ru/Sa anyway) to give the Spike & Switch effect.

Skarmory's more vulnerable to Magnetons, though.
But Forry's more vulnerable to Fire. Skarm takes some licks from Electric and Fire, but at least it doesn't have a x4 vulnerability on a weak defensive stat. And so many non-fire types can learn Flamethrower...
It's probably more a matter of taste than one being absolutely better than the other.

Unfortunately, Skarmory doesn't need a 4x weakness to Electric to fall to Magnetons. Forretress may be still vulnerable to Magnet Pull, but more Magnetons carry HP Water\Grass\Ice than HP Fire. If Forretress is confronted by a Pokémon that even carries the slighest possibility of carrying a fire attack, it can still switch out to somebody resistant. But once Skarmory's trapped, it doesn't have a prayer. Skarmory users have to be extra-paranoid about Magnetons to make sure they don't lose their defensive tank\Spiker too early.
Couldn't Skamrory Roar or Whirlwind a Magneton away and break the Magnet Pull?

But if skarmory have hp ground (whit good atk stat) it can at lest go out whit a good hit at magneton right?

It can, but you have to do it as they switch-in (or you use Substitute on the switch-in), otherwise Skarmory isn't going to survive to pseudohaze. (Actually, I've seen some Skarmories survive - probably ones with max HP and Special Defense - but were still horrendously crippled after doing so. And it'd be tricky to keep pulling that off over and over again anyway.)
But if skarmory have hp ground (whit good atk stat) it can at lest go out whit a good hit at magneton right?
It can take it out, yes. But Magneton users are also wary of this, and can lull you into a false sense of security before they spring it out on you. Most Magnetons are faster than Skarmory - Timid personality with maxed speed (though sometimes they have more Defense so that they can survive HP Ground) - so it usually isn't going to get a hit in before Magneton takes it down.
magnetons = used very much
fires = not used very much
skarm = stands NO chance against magneton, so don't try to make him have a chance
forry = has counter, earthquake, can explode, and spikes. that's pretty damn cool. better than any of the other spikers can do.
Burning in water, drowning in flame
Nonetheless, Skarmory, Forretress, and Cloyster seem to be the most common spikers nowadays.
Okay, good arguments all. However, you will find, ThePariah, that if Forretress is being to successfull that Fire WILL start to be used more. And since the Fire/Flying types are available with Forretress (Moltres, Charizard, Ho-Oh), it's Earthquake is no real protection. For that matter, any Fire type faster than Forretress (read: all of them except maybe Torkoal) will take it out in one Flamethrower.

I haven't used too many spikers throughout my games but after hanging on the chat battlerooms for some time, I had never really realised before now that many spikers were weak to fire except cloyster and... a pokemon no one mentioned yet: qwilfish! Since crystal he can learn it and I had read something on the forums here as the fastest spiker in the game... Is it still the case ??? Could it still be useful or something prevents qwilfish from being really effective ?
Also, what about cacturne ? I had heard that it was not used as a spiker because of it being more like a sweeper due to its offensive qualities...
I'd dispute this - both have the same base Speed (70) so anyone that wants a Skarmory that is as fast as a Magneton can possibly be can have one (with a bit of patience).Originally posted by Don't Run With Scizors

Magnetons are paralysers - many people will not boost their speed, relying on Zap Cannon or T-wave to handle that. I'd have thought +SA natures would be a better bet, and more popular.
