Played it at a comp on the weekend, just curious which characters you like.

After a bit of practice, I think I like Xianghua the most at the moment. Her sword movements are the most fluid and best at getting around defenses. I also like Raphael, but it seems most people, especially where I live, are Raphael whores, so I don't wanna sepcialise with him. I also like Sophitia, Cassandra, Taki and Talim.

As for who I don't like, Nightmare, Voldo, Necrid, Astaroth, Beserk, that green masked guy that can regenerate, Mitsurugi. But especially Nightmare. I hate his armor and that sword of his and that he's just pure brute force. But that's just me.

Out of interest, the comp final ended up between 4 Raphael players, a Xianghua player and a Sophitia player. The Xianghua player won.

Me and my friends played this game to death after it came out. Tons of fun, as long as you ban certain competely cheap weapons.

    Characters I like:

Talim: My most used character, she's really fun to use because she's really hard to deal with if you allow her within range. Also happens to be undisputed master of the two-hit ringout. And be sure to ban the Double Crescent Blades. Those things are so cheap it's not funny.

Kilik/Seung Mina: I like both these characters because of the nice combo moves they can pull with surprising ease. Also very funny to use them against someone who can't sidestep.

Necrid: I use him on occasion, just becuase the random moves he busts out really annoy my friends, but unfortunately he's just sorta frail.

Yea, I love Soul Callibur too!

Talim's a very fluid character, who I find has effective combo's. Her weapons are cool, but the DCB certainly as 'cheap as chip's. She's also cute!

I also like Seung Mina. I find her weapon, the Zanbatou, very interesting and I'm starting to familliarise myself with her attacks and combos, but she can be quite hard to use.

I also think Maxi is rather cheap. I find Raphael good, but a little easy to use. I prefer having to use skill to control a player.

For some reason, I like playing with Ivy. Maybe its her dominatrix-like attitude, or the way she can slap the hell out of someone in seconds, but whatever.

I haven't played that game in ages... If Nightmare was that big huge mother****er with the big sword, then yeah-- that guy was my dude. I made a way that I could cheap everything to death by timing that one move where he spins around and smashes his opponent with his sword... And just as their getting up you do it again, etc. Repeat until dead. You never even lose a single fragment of health.

Ivy is the coolest, I love whoring it up with her "go into whip mode and swing it around" attitude. Because if you have someone who isn't the greatest at blocking, you can really mess up their day, cause the only thing that can stop it is a ranged attack like Link's arrows.

I actually like Nightmare despite his speed issue he is quite good, I can kick some serious arse. Same goes with any tough, but slow character. DIE TALIM!

Don't worry, Venusaur99. You spelled her name right.

Anyway, I played "Soul Calibur 2" a little bit the day before yesterday...the first time in a couple/few months! h:

The characters I like to use the most are Cassandra, Ivy, Kilik, and Seung Mina.

Jyes, I've been addicted to SCII since I got it (that's a month ago eh).

I'm REALLY surprised at all the Xianghua fans here...none of her moves really stand out when I check them all in Extra Practice Mode...plus most people say her Soul Edge/Calibur weapons are both below the high standards.

Ivy? She's hard to use, at least for me. But one of her 60% guard dmg inflicting weapons (Kaledioscope?) is formidable.

Anyways, I used to use Nightmare/Necrid a lot because they looked cool and had cool attacks...until I discovered some of the other edge/calibur weapons! Sophitia's fast soul charge, and Taki/Mitsurugi's massive damaging weapons are just astounding.

My bro stuck like glue to Raphael and Cervantes for three weeks straight. Damn, that move where Cervantes rushes at you and then jabs his weapon into you vertically's just too much. Now he's trying Mitsurugi's Damascus Sword.

But for Weapon Master (which I'm going to finish tomorrow yay!) I prefers Seung Mina. Seung Mina + blue Calibur weapon + L2/both punch buttons guarantees 42 HP Recovery-unless Guard Impacted. That's pretty nice, no? I only recently started using her other attacks =P

Link has a stabbing move in which he stabs 5+ times with a latge stab at the end which usually knocks down your oponant (it's one of his basic moves aswell, A,A,A,A etc I think it is) then you can jump on your swond and bounce kinda like Yoshimitsu but you can only do it 3 times.

I used Link to unlock everything, that is everything you can select a character for.

I like Mitsurugi, mainly for his power, but he's not that slow, either. I also like Nightmare, mainly for his big-ass sword, and Ivy. I occasionally use Yoshimitsu, just because his Sword Pogo and recovery move (the one where he sits and waves his sword up and down) are fun

After two weeks of woning it and playing it, here's my new faves:

    1. Talim. Easily. She's wicked fast and she has lots of great combos. She has the best evasion, and her Soul Calibur is a deadly weapon. Within moments regeration is easily achieved.

    2. Cassandra. Loaded with attitude and powerful moves. Not as fluid as I'd like but she kicks serious butt. Her unblockable moves are easy yet deadly.

    3. Raphael. Damn fast and great vertical attacks, but his horizontals are clumsier and leaves him open. Plus he gets predictable fairly quickly.

    4. Taki. Her kicks and speed are just superb, but her sword moves get clumsy.

    5. Nightmare. Power, power. But there's little imagination.

    Personal records:

    Extra Survival No Recovery: 1. Talim, 34 wins. 2. Raphael, 28 wins. 3. Yunsung, 24 wins. 4. Taki, 21 wins. 5. Nightmare, 21 wins.
Extra Survival Deathmatch: 1. Talim, 28 wins. 2. Sophitia, 24 wins. 3. Cassandra, 23 wins. =4. Raphael, Ivy, Taki, 21 wins.

Her unblockables suck. Really. About the only thing worth anything is the 66A+B Lv3 Soul Charge Unblockable (MAYBE the 8A+B Gaia Quake at Lv3 as well, though it is WAY better as a Guard Crush at level 1 -- no charge required). Don't get me started on how sucky 44bA is.

I had it for the Gamecube (played the others and best version IMO) and I mainly used either Link or Talim and I was pretty awesoem with both of them.
As for that Voldo dance, might have just been me but I didn't find it funny :<

The thing about most unblockables is that they take too long to happen. Talim's is slow and long distance. Ivy's are good but avoidable because they're slow. Only Cassandra had fast ones, even if they did less damage.

I found Link too slow myself, could never get combos going. Mind you, his bomb was marvellous!

Fave unblockable attack would be Ivy's back quarter spin A. That always took around half of the enemy's energy and was a gem for when they get off the ground. Still, unblockables are too slow for normal battle 99% of the time. 4-5 attack combos work better.

Link is nuts if you take advantage of his projectile attacks. Just hurl bombs and arrows until you're well situated.

Fast unblockables? Only 66A+B is fast, and that's because it's unblockable only at a level 3 soul charge.

If you are talking about her 44bA (back, back + B ~ A), that move is slllooooow. 8(A+B) isn't that fast, either. You really should avoid unblockables for most characters, especially for Cassandra.

EDIT: What unblockables are you talking about? Perhaps I've forgotten about one or two, but I'm almost certain that her unblockables, for the most part, suck.

Just her up A + B one. But I never use unblockables with her anyway. The only character I use unblockables with is Ivy.

I'd like to see you in action with Link, Raz, because I've never seen anyone pull off hits with Link's projectiles on a regular basis. Wouldn't Talim and Taki be far too fast for them considering you have to do 2 moves in order to use them? Plus there's the block button.

I only use Talim regularly anyway, she's the only character I really feel comfortable with. I've finally gotten used to blocking, which took a while.

There's actually time during a battle to use Soul Charge?! I've never used it and in the comp I was in, nobody there used it either. Then again, almost everyone there used Raphael.

in serious matches, no one should ever use an unblockable. The only time I use an unblockable is just to feint and make my sword flash by Guard Canceling (such as doing the "hadoken" with nightmare and then guard canceling into stance changes to make it look flashy)...and chances are you can always soul charge after a guard impact relay with the computer/opponent to add some oomph to your next attack. For instance, Soul Charge level 1 with Link makes his 66B attack a guard breaker which is pretty nifty.

Left on the C-Stick fires Links arrow and right is the bomb I think, so it's pretty easy to fire off both... I usually use an arrow or bomb on the ice stages... or just bounce with his sword..

You have to do it twice, actually. One for Link to get it out and the second time to fire it. In normal battle, it didn't happen as often as I'd like, because if you don't get it off in time, Link's a sitting duck.
