Chapter 21: Cross-Union Madness

“We don’t even need the Fusion Gate to fuse our two Monsters this time!” said Stalt. X-Head Cannon and Z-Metal Tank, combine!
The X-Head Cannon lifted itself up and lowered onto the Z-Metal Tank, and the two fused together with a burst of steam. (2400/2100)
- Yu-Gi-Oh,City of Souls: "Duel At 1,450 Feet" -

Deep inside another dimension, seperated from Duelist Camp and Duelatopia by walls of time and space, a turbaned Egyptian rose up from the floor of a golden-walled room. He approached the center of the room, which held a cage suited for holding hamsters or other rodents. He knelt down and examined it carefully.
"As I had feared," he murmured. "She has escaped. I sensed the magic but I had thought it was a fluke. Had I been more careful, I would have been able to act sooner. I must speak with Ishizu's daughter about this. Surely she knows by now."
And with that, Shadi, the Guardian of the Milennium Items, sank back into the floor of the prison room..

The sun drearily trudged across the sky, over the trees and buildings of Duelist Camp. In Lina's station, a fierce duel was taking place between Jake Forester and Lina Mystara. But it was winding down.
"I sacrifice my Toon Masked Sorcerer..." said Lina, as the goofy masked gremlin crumbled into light. "To summon my favorite Toon! Toon Dark Magician Girl, come out!" There was a pop and puff of smoke, and out of the book hopped a super-cute version of the legendary sorceress. She let out a giggle and squeal. (2000/1700) "Now my sorceress, attack Jake!"
The sorceress fired her magic into Jake, who screamed as he was flung back. His life points dropped to 1300.
"I hate to say it, but you're as good as dead," giggled Lina as her super-deformed self floated down and laughed. "When my Toon sorceress hits you again, you're finished!"
Jake sighed. She's right! My Solar Flare Dragon lock won't work against Toon Monsters! I have to get creative. He drew a card. "I play Pot of Greed to draw two cards." He drew two cards from his deck and smirked. "This should finish you off." He slapped down a card. "First, I'll summon Ultimate Baseball Kid in attack mode!"
A young red-clothed baseball player appeared in a puff of smoke. He spat lava on the ground and tapped his bat to the ground, taking a batting stance. (500/1000)
"What? Are you serious?" grinned Lina. "That thing can't even stand a chance against my Toons!"
"That is going to change, with this magic card!" said Jake, showing it. It showed a pair of Gagagigos clasping hands. "Bond of Brothers! By playing it, I sacrifice 1000 life points to summon two cards with the same element from my hand or deck." He played the card and his life points dropped to 300. "And I'll summon two fire monsters, Fireyarou and Darkfire Soldier 1!" The two flaming warriors appeared. (1300/1000) (1700/1200)
"Hmph, big deal, you still can't handle me," said Lina. "None of your monsters are stronger than my Toon."
"Well, if you knew better, you would know that when Ultimate Baseball Kid hits the field, it gains 1000 attack points for each fire creature on my side of the field, and I have a full field," said Jake as his Kid rose to 4500 attack.
"Oh no!" said Lina in shock. "My Toon's toast!" Toon Dark Magician Girl squealed in terror.
"That's right, it's toasted, roasted, and burnt to a crisp!" laughed Jake. "Ultimate Baseball Kid, use Homerun Slammer!"
The boy summoned a fireball and threw it into the air, then whacked it for a homerun right into Toon Dark Magician Girl, shattering her into a million pieces. Lina's life points dropped to 1800.
"And now I'll activate my Kid's second effect," said Jake. "Your Toon Cannon Soldier did a dent on my life points by throwing monsters at me. Ultimate Baseball Kid can do the same thing! By sacrificing a fire creature, I can inflict 500 points of damage to you!" Each of the monsters around the Kid turned into fireballs. "That will weaken him a lot, but since you have few life points left, that doesn't matter! Go Kid, send her to the showers!"
The boy monster leapt behind each fireball and whacked it into Lina's face. After the fourth one, she was covered with soot. Her life points hit zero.
"I won!" cried Jake, pumping his fist in the air.
Lina dusted herself off. "Well, you're pretty good, Jake. I didn't expect one of Arn's campers to defeat me. I thought you were a poser too, just like Norus."
"Heh, that jerk doesn't deserve to duel," laughed Jake, helping her dust off. "So..."
"Yeah, I know, you earned the Shadow Badge," said Lina, removing a box from a niche and opening it. It revealed a black disk with a wicked face on it. "Put it on your card with pride."
"Yes, I'm in the finals!" laughed Jake. "I can't wait to show Bethany!"
"You mean Beth?" asked Lina. "She's in my cabin. She said she only has six more pins to get. I heard she defeated Jackie too, I'm a bit surprised myself." She smirked. "I wouldn't be surprised if she were wandering around and looking for a duel to get into. Why don't you go find her?"
"Thanks!" said Jake, nodding. "I'll do that right now!" He waved and left.
"Well, seems I'm losing my touch," laughed Lina. "Already three duelists defeated me and got my badge. Jake, Sonja, and then that girl from the Shining Friendship cabin. SHINING FRIENDSHIP...I can't believe she owns such a powerful deck!" She snickered. "Well, better get ready for my next pponent." She took a broom and swept the floor of the cave.
~~+~~
Bethany sneezed.
"You okay, Beth?" asked Diane as the girls wandered the campsite.
"Yeah, I swear something was talking about me, though," said Bethany, sniffling and wiping her nose.
"Maybe it's Lina," said Gwen. "She was excited to see you get Jackie's badge. I was surprised to hear that too! I mean, come on, Jackie? Since when could she duel?"
"She did work for Anastasia Pegasus," said Diane. "So I wouldn't be surprised if she had dueled before. I guess she does it rarely, as a hobby. Unlike us girls, who duel professionally!"
"Yeah right, we're as professional as can get," said Gwen sarcastically. She rolled her eyes. "We're not even close!"
"Uh huh, we could never defeat Team Supreme," laughed Bethany.
"Well, we don't really have to worry about dueling them now," said Diane. "All we need to do is get into the finals with Gwen and then we can meet the Fearless Four." She smiled.
"But who's gonna duel us now?" asked Bethany. "I bet that there aren't very many duelist left."
"Hey there," said a drawling voice. The three girls turned to see a girl with a black mullet and wearing a rainbow feather boa, a shiny plastic jacket, and two-inch platform shoes. Her pale face was accented by extremely dark eyeliner and shadow. "Did I hear you say were up for a duel?"
"Not me," said Gwen, flashing her card. "I'm in the finals already. But one of my friends will duel you."
"Great," said the kid, showing off his card. It had a bat-shaped badge and many star pins. "I'm almost ready for the finals myself. The name's Johnathan Slade, and I'll be glad to duel your pals."
"Wait...did you say Johnathan?" asked Diane. "That's a boy's name! Did your parents name you wrong or something?"
"Nope, I'm a boy," grinned John. "I just happen to like wearing dresses."
"Ewww...a cross-dresser!" gagged Gwen. "Just great! I didn't think they allowed drag queens, or in your case, drag princesses, into the camp."
"Hey, that's not nice!" said Bethany. "Even if he is weird, he can dress however he wants, isn't that right Di?"
Diane felt ill, but nodded slowly. "Suuuure..." She turned to Bethany. "Say Beth, why don't you duel him?"
"Huh?" asked Bethany, but Diane skittered to Gwen's side. "Urrr...okay!" She turned to the transvestite. "How about we duel for six star pins? Whoever wins goes to the finals!"
"Fine with me, missie," said Johnathan. "Just let me check my makeup." He took out a compact and opened it, pattig his cheeks with some rouge. "There, all ready to go!"
"Errrr..." said Bethany, starting to feel ill herself because a guy was wearing makeup like a girl. "Okay. Let's duel!" The two shuffled their decks and then activated their disks. With a snap, the two put their decks into their disk and their life points rose to 8000 each.
"Just be careful, I may be a pretty face," grinned John. "But my deck is ruthless!"
"Ha, she's beaten Exodia!" laughed Gwen. "She can beat you anyday!"
~~+~~
As Bethany and Johnathan began their duel, Lina was approached by two figures. She looked up. "Eh? Two duelists?"
"No," said Twilight. "You should know me by now."
"Oh! Twi!" said Lina. "Who's that with you?"
The man smiled and spoke in en Egyptian accent. "I thought you would recognize me, considering what Miremei told me of you and Pegasus."
Lina looked over him, then recalled a painting and a story. "You--you're Shadi, the one who gave Max his Milennium Eye, then you showed him the chamber with the God Card tablets!"
"Exactly," said Shadi. "I must commend your friend, Bethany, from defeating Obelisk one final time. Few can stand against the might of an Egyptian God Monster. And thanksfully, it is gone forever. But I fear Slifer and Ra will appear soon."
"We must not talk about these things here, Shadi," said Twilight. "Lina, come with us. I've arranged for us to abandon our stations early to talk to Sibylla about something we talked about yesterday." She narrowed her eyes.
"Huh? Oh, your dream," said Lina. "Okay. Is it okay if I put on a coat, it's freezing today." She removed her wig and hat.
~~+~~
"Why don't you start first?" said Bethany. "Ladies...first, after all!"
"Gladly," said John as the two drew their hands. He drew a card. "I'll
start by playing X-Head Cannon in attack mode!" A purple suit of robotic armor with shoulder cannons appeared. (1800/1500)
"Uh oh," said Diane in shock. "I know about this card! It's part of two other cards which can create a deadly monster!"
"I hope that Beth can take it out quickly," said Gwen. "To lose to a cross-dresser...urgh!"
"And I'll set a card face-down," said John, slapping down a card. It appeared before him. "Your move, dear."
Bethany sighed and drew a card. "I'll set a monster in defense and a card face-down." The cards appeared before her. "And that will end my turn."
"Well then, love, this should be a pretty easy win," grinned John as he drew a card. "I'll summon Y-Dragon Head to the field to join its brother!" The metallic red pterodactyl-like robot appeared. (1500/1600) "And then I'll destroy that face-down monster! Use Electric Blast!" The dragon spewed lightning from its mouth.
"Not so fast!" said Bethany, flipping up her trap card. "Gravity Bind will take care of that attacker!"
"I was sure that card you had face-down was a trap, dear," said John. "So, here's a counter!" He flipped up his own card. "7 Tools of the Bandit!" The card exploded into light.
"No!" said Diane in horror.
"I lose 1000 life points," said John as his life points dropped to 7000. "But I get to disarm your trap card!" The Gravity Bind card exploded and left Bethany shaken.
"Oh no," said Bethany.
"This is not good," said Gwen. "She's wide open to attack!"
~~+~~
The Augery greeted the three as they appeared in a disk of light. Greetings, Shadi, Guardian of the Items.
"Greetings to you, oh great Phoenix," said Shadi, bowing. "I am honored to meet you. We have much to talk about."
Yes, we do. The bird preened its glowing blue feathers.
Lina was amazed to see the thing again. She hoped that Sibylla hadn't spooked the girls too much with his appearanace two days ago. "So, what's this all about? Some silly dream that makes no sense?"
Twilight's vision through the Milennium Necklace was no mere dream, said Sibylla. When she receives a vision from the Necklace, it is an omen of the future.
"What bothers me is Lady Circe's return," said Shadi. "Sadly, she has escaped."
"What? You mean she broke out?" asked Lina in shock. She paused. "Well, she probably wriggled out of her cage. She won't get very far as a black rat."
"Had it been a rat's escape, I would not be concerned," said Shadi. "But I felt a wave of dark magic a couple of nights ago. I did a cursory scan of the prison where I held all the Rare Hunters, but there was no breach. The magical wards were all in effect. I admit I let my guard down, thinking I was overworking my job as warden for the Rare Hunters I had locked up until their redemption, but recently, I sensed a familiar dark magic...that of an ancient spell that should have been forgotten."
"The Seal of Orichalcos," sighed Lina, who explained what happened. Twilight filled in some details and Sibylla added a couple of things like his warning to the campers.
~~+~~
"Sorry, love, but your monster is toast," said Johnathan. "Where was I? Oh yes...attack with Electric Blast!"
Y-Dragon Head fired its beam of electric death and shattered the card, which revealed itself.
"Agh! A frickin' Cyber Jar!" cried Johnathan, clutching his hair.
"That's right!" said Bethany with a sly grin as the metallic pod sucked up both robots and exploded. "You know the rules."
The two duelists drew five cards and put down all their monsters. Johnathan was blessed as two yellow four-legged robots with one "eye" alongside two X-Head Cannons and another Y-Dragon Head appeared.
"A Z-Metal Tank pair!" gasped Diane. "This is really bad! He's now got all the monsters he needs for his combo!"
Bethany slapped down her cards and a Petit Dragon joined Hurricail, Mokey Mokey, and Emissary of the Oasis. "You're one up ahead of me, Johnny."
"True, and I really hate to have to wipe your life points out by taking down all those wimpy monsters," sighed John.
Petit Dragon snarled and hissed. "My monsters may seem weak outside," said Bethany. "But they are a team that works together to make you mincemeat. And if you even try destroying them, you can't touch my life points because of Emissary of the Oasis over here." The blue-skinned spirit winked seductively. "And don't bother trying to take her out, the others will protect her from your army of battle-bots."
Johnathan chuckled. "You sure seem confident, dearie. But let me give you a secret - my monsters are skilled team workers too. In fact, they have a special power. You ever watch Transformers?"
Bethany shrugged. "A few times, when I was bored."
"Well, those transforming robots aren't just cartoons in this game," said Johnathan. "You see, my robots can transform too! You'll see the process in just a while, unless you have something to do."
Bethany shook her head. "I place a card face-down and end my turn."
Johnathan drew a card and smirked. "Well then, it's about time I show you my robots' power," he grinned, sliding three monsters out and into the removal slot. "I fuse together one of my X-Head Cannons with my Y-Dragon Head and one of my Z-Metal Tanks and remove all three monsters from the game!"
"I knew it!" cried Diane.
The three robots clanked and whirred as they fused together into a giant tank with the dragon head, the cannon's lasers, and the tank's treads. (2800/2200)
"I present XYZ Dragon Cannon!" said Johnathan.
"Yikes," gasped Bethany, paling.
"And what's more, it has a special power," said John, taking a card from his hand and tossing it into the discard slot. "By discarding one card from my hand, I can obliterate one of your monsters, magic or trap cards on the field! And I'll destroy your Emissary! Go, XYZ Dragon Cannon! Annihilation Phaser!"
The spirit screamed as the tank fired twin blasts from its turrets, shattering her to bits. Bethany's life points hit 7850.
"And that doesn't count as an attack," said John. "So...obliterate her dragon with Vaporization Beam!"
The tank turned its sights on the squealing drake and zapped it. Its destruction dropped Bethany's life points to 5250.
"And Z-Metal Tank, use Retina Rez to disintegrate that whirlwind!" ordered John. The tank fired a beam from its "eye" and dissipated the Hurricail. Bethany's life meter dropped to 4650.
Now what do I do? thought Bethany in despair.
~~+~~
"So, the Seal has returned," whispered Shadi fearfully. "Then it is out of my hands. Whoever owns that magic obviously has the power to spirit away one of my prisoners, and also has the power to remove Yugi's penalty game if he so desires. This sorcerer, Pisaro, is very dangerous and something tells me that he is more dangerous than the evil in Duelatopia."
"You think there is evil in Duelatopia?" asked Lina in shock.
"It was my vision that warned Shadi," whispered Twilight. "I did not notice it until I had a vision the night before you were attacked on the plane here. I didn't tell anyone for fear of being mocked. I then saw the demon in my dream over the island, eagerly licking his lips, and a silver disk under the waves."
"I decided to examine this thing myself, using my Milennium Key," said Shadi, showing the glowing golden key. "This is another Milennium Item, allowing me to become invisible and alter the perceptions of all who see me. I can also enter people's minds and alter them. I have been altering the minds of the Rare Hunters to erase the evil from their minds, but I have left the Dark Four and Skackle alone because Yugi inflicted the Penalty Game."
"Wow, that's amazing, you can actually reform a person to good?" asked Lina.
"It doesn't work like that," stated Shadi. "But in a way, yes. To continue, I went to the island and hide under my Key's power, and then I saw them - the robed ones. They were like the old Rare Hunters under Marik, only much more evil and inhuman. After a bit of investigation, I knew something was up, so I went to the ancient libraries and researched legends, and learned about the legend of a fallen angel who was defeated by my Key, Miremei's Necklace, and four more of the Items."
"This vision I had about the demon, Saurius," said Twilight. "I saw it with my own eyes. It was a vision of Battle City, thirty-five years ago! I saw my mother dueling the demon, and in the end, he was defeated by my mother's Exchange of Spirits card. Saurius never knew what hit him."
"So...Saurius is this guy's name," said Lina in concern. "Is he THAT dangerous?"
As powerful as Pisaro in magic, and as greedy, stated Sibylla. I have existed before humanity and saw with my own eyes the destruction he wrought that made him fall from the Blessed Realm. However, the owner of the Milennium Ring put a curse on him - if he is defeated by all seven Milennium Items, his soul will shatter into a million pieces and he will be no more than dust.
"So, Ishizu and this other guy defeated him while holding the Necklace and Ring," said Lina. "Speaking of the Ring, I think my foster dad mentioned some guy called Bakura who owned the Ring..." She shrugged. "Any other defeats?"
"I cannot say who defeated him with the Milennium Key, Scales, Rod, or Eye," said Shadi. "But he was defeated by the owners of those items too. Every aeon, he came to seek out the Mandate of Heaven, and every time he was defeated. Now, only the Milennium Puzzle owner remains to defeat him before the curse takes full effect."
Lina gasped. "That means...Yugi's got to fight him!"
"Exactly," said Twilight. "And I know the outcome of that duel...but it will never be if we do not stop Lady Circe and Pisaro, for they plan to ambush Yugi and kill him before then."
~~+~~
Bethany looked up at the huge robot tank gunning her down and felt smaller than her monsters. Only Mokey Mokey remained on the field, and it would so be toasted. She had no idea what to do.
"I hate to say it, but she's not going to win this one," whispered Gwen.
Diane felt the same way. How can our friend defeat a monster which can annihilate any lock-down with its effect?
Bethany drew a card and looked at it, then flipped it over. "I play Pot of Greed." She discarded the card and drew two more, then looked over her options carefully.
"I hate to say it, dear, but the finals are as good as mine," grinned Johnathan. "I've never lost a duel thanks to this baby, and I've even defeated the Vampire Lord counselor. He was a tough one, but once I got this girl out, my opponent was begging for mercy when I finished with him." He chuckled.
"If you think I'm going to beg for mercy too, you're dead wrong," scowled Bethany. "Even though I won't question your weird nature and the cross-dressing you do, I'm not going to hold back!"
"What can you do, love?" said John. "You're no match for my cannon."
"We'll see," said Bethany. "I play Polymerization to fuse my Mokey Mokey with the two Mokey Mokeys in my hand to form Mokey Mokey King!" The little tofu pixie vanished and the giant tofu fairy appeared. (300/200)
"I see where this is going," said Diane, recalling Bethany's last duel.
"That bugger isn't even any better than its friends," sighed John.
"That's what you think?" grinned Bethany. "Mokey Mokey King, attack head-on!" The fairy shot forward.
"What's she DOING?" cried Gwen in horror. Diane smirked.
With a sigh, John waved his hand. "Counterattack, XYZ Dragon Cannon." The tank blew it away and Bethany's life points dropped down to 2150.
"Are you OUT OF YOUR FREAKING MIND,BETH?!?!" cried Gwen in shock. "You just lost a ton of life points!"
"It was worth it, because now I can activate Mokey Mokey King's effect!" said Bethany. Three Mokey Mokey appeared.
"Huh?" asked John and Gwen together.
"When Mokey Mokey King gets destroyed in battle," said Diane. "It can summon the component Mokey Mokeys to the field!"
"Well, that's nice and all, but you haven't done anything but waste your life points for nothing," said John. "My Cannon will blow one of them away and take out your remaining life points."
"I'm not through yet," said Bethany. "I play Monster Reborn on Petit Dragon!" The little dragon reappeared.
"You're not really helping youself, ya know," said John.
"And then I summon..." She paused and looked at her card. She shivered.
"Come on," said John. "We haven't got all day!"
"What's wrong?" asked Diane.
Bethany swallowed and slapped the card down. "I SUMMON KOZAKY IN ATTACK MODE!" she screamed.
The card spewed a monster forth, which cackled wickedly. It was a mad scientist with long claws and fangs, wild black hair sprouting all over his head. He turned to the girls and flashing a wicked grin, his glasses gleaming menacingly. (400/400)
"It looks like a cross between Mr. Hyde and Dr. Tomoe!" gasped Gwen.
Diane felt a chill down her spine. No wonder Beth was scared to summon it. If I had that card, I'd have nightmares!
"Typical girls," laughed Johnathan. "Scared stiff of a mad scientist!"
"Tough talk for someone who dresses like Madonna, and I DON'T mean the Virgin Mary!" hissed Gwen.
"Sticks and stones, love, sticks and stones," said Johnathan. "Finish your move, Bethany. I want to hurry to the finals."
"Fine," said Bethany, slapping down a magic card. "I play Law of the Normal!"
"What?" cried John. "What the flying fig does THAT do?" He didn't see Diane giggling in her hand.
"It's your demise, pretty boy," said Bethany. "This card can only be activated when my field is filled with two-star non-effect monsters. When activated, all monsters stronger than those monsters are DESTROYED."
John backed up. "No!"
"That's right, your robots are scrap!" said Diane, recalling Bethany using that same tactic on Jackie.
The five monsters focused their energy and formed a star pattern which flung bolts of lightning that shattered XYZ Dragon Cannon and the Z-Metal Tank with it. Johnathan's life points dropped to 5925.
"And now I equip this magic card to Kozaky, Sword of the Soul Eater!" A black-bladed sword with a blood-red gem appeared in the mad scientist's hands. "This card can only be equipped to a three-star or weaker monster, but it has a powerful effect. I can sacrifice all the other monsters on my field to power up my Kozaky by 1000 attack points per monster tributed, and I'm tributing all four of my remaining monsters!" The drake and Mokey Mokeys turned into light and were sucked into the bloodstone on the sword's hilt. Kozaky cackled as his attack rose to 4400.
"Oh no!" cried John in horror.
"Kozaky, attack Boy George with Soul Slash!" shouted Bethany. The fiendish man lunged and sliced a hole into John's chest - not literally, as John was fine, but he was flung mercilessly to the ground as his life meter dropped all the way down to 1525.
"All right!" said Diane, high-fiving Gwen. "She's gonna win this one!"
"Yeah, she's going to the finals!" laughed Gwen.
Bethany paused. I know better. I still have several life points to chop through. She then smirked. "Give up?"
Johnathan got up slowly and dusted himself off. "Well, dear, that was a lovely strategy. I never thought your wimps had such gumption. Now I have a powerful wimp to deal with."
"Not actually, because once my turn ends, Kozaky dies because of Sword of the Soul Eater's drawback. But don't think I'll be defenseless...reveal my trap card!" She flipped up her trap, showing a bunch of Mokey Mokey in a crowd. "Human Wave-Tactics!"
"What?" asked Johnathan.
"This trap card revives all the monsters I lost during this turn." Petit Dragon and the three Mokey Mokey reappeared in a flash of light. "So even when my fiend dies, I'll still have monsters on the field!" She waved her hand and the sword shattered, making Kozaky scream as he was devoured by a blob of shadow and vanished.
"I hate to break it to you, darling," laughed Johnathan. "But they are still wimps, no matter how hard you look at 'em."
Bethany smirked. That's what he thinks! If I get my hands on Thousand Energy or Pyramid Power, I can pump up these 'wimps' to wipe his drag princess butt all over the ground! Then I'll get into the finals!
Johnathan drew his next card.

The conversation between the characters in Sibylla's clearing continued.
"But even so, the Oath the Heir made prevents Circe from harming Yugi," said Shadi. "And the Milennium Scepter made it impossible for anyone connected to Pegasus to harm Yugi."
That will not stop either Circe or Pisaro, said Sibylla. I sense Pisaro's magic from here. It is very evil and dark. His hatred for human beings has come with him across the worlds and he will not stop until Yugi is dead and his 'lover' is avenged.
Lina curled her lip in disgust. "Great..." She then asked a question. "Say, if old Pisaro is capable of yanking people out of your jail, why didn't he yank ALL the Dark Four out and overwhelm Yugi with them?"
From what I know, stated Sibylla. He is not stupid. He knows that using spells to rescue all the Dark Four would drain him, and he wouldn't able to grant all their powers back. He also knows that Shadi would have been alarmed and contacted Yugi with a warning, ruining his plans. I suggest we play his little game a bit longer, and move when he strikes. I believe that time will come soon. The more assurance we give him, the easier it will be to ambush him when he isn't looking. In the meantime, I will keep watch over the campgrounds in case something is up.
"It doesn't matter how many he brings back," stated Shadi. "From what I know, Yugi and Remi made an oath. When Yugi won, the oath took effect - none of the Dark Four can harm Yugi, Jade, Kaiba, or Yugi's friends as long as they live due to that oath."
"Circe will not be stopped, she is forming a plan to bring that other woman into her fold and use her as a weapon," whispered Twilight fearfully. "We must stop her before it is too late."
I do not think Circe will strike Yugi now, when the tournament on that island is in full swing, said the Augery.
"The bird's right, Twi," said Lina, getting a glare from Sibylla. "She's probably going to wait a bit, maybe until after the finals, when everyone's guard is down, before lashing out. Relax, after our finals, we'll keep our eye on Yugi."
"I hope you are right," muttered Twilight somberly.
Shadi nodded. "We can only wait and hope that we won't be too late when
she makes her move against Yugi."
"Well, I'll keep watch over my campers," said Lina. "The finals are approaching. I believe that whoever this Pisaro creep is, he won't make a move until after the tournament is over. Except for that Balzack, it's been quiet."
Balzack was not acting under Pisaro's orders, he was acting on his own free will, stated Sibylla. I am sure that Pisaro had not intended for him to duel you. Pisaro is laying low until the time is right. If you are right, he will only strike when this tournament's finals are over. Those who are in the finals may be the most vunerable.
Lina paled. "Gwen's in the finals...and so is Jake! He just got into the finals after getting my badge!"
"Then you had better keep a close eye on those two," said Twilight softly. "I fear they are in grave danger."
"Right," said Lina with a sigh.
I must go and start my sweep of the camp for anything unusual, said the Augery, opening his wings. Shadi, if anything comes up about Circe, we will let you know. He let out a cry and shot into the air in a blue blaze of light. The clearing grew dimmer with his passing.
"I must return to the prison myself to keep watch, in case Pisaro tries to rescue any more of the prisoners," said Shadi. He bowed. "I wish you all good fortune and may we all live to see the next full moon." With that, he sank into the ground in a disc of light.
"Nice exit," muttered Lina. "Well, Twi, let's hope for the best. I sure hope Beth and Diane don't enter the finals, but..."
"Their fate has been decided," said Twilight sadly. "Bless them and hope that their hearts remain strong." She left.
"Hoo boy..." sighed Lina, sweatdropping. "Anne, you stupid girl, you've sure got me in a web of danger and mystery!"
~~+~~
Johnathan smirked. "I'll play Monster Reborn to bring back the beast I discarded to use XYZ Dragon Cannon's effect, Metallizing Parasite Lunatite!" A creature that looked like a silver slug emerged. (1000/500)
"What's he up to?" asked Gwen. "That guy won't do much damage if it destroys Beth's monsters."
Diane frowned. Sis warned me about this monster, about a powerful effect it has if it merges with a monster...
"And then I'll summon my third X-Head Cannon," said Johnathan, and the purple armored robot appeared once more. "And equip Lunatite to it! Union Merge!" The silvery slug leapt onto X-Head Cannon and coated it with a silver sheen of metal coating.
"Nothing...happened," said Bethany.
Diane then recalled what the Lunatite did and shouted at Bethany. "Beth! Don't waste your magic cards on it! When Metallizing Parasite Lunatite merges with a monster, magic cards can't affect it!"
"She's right, love," said Johnathan.
Bethany sighed and looked at her hand. And I had Creature Swap in my hand! Now I can't switch our monsters!
"It doesn't matter now, because I'll take this duel by storm!" said Johnathan. "X-Head Cannon, make that dragon extinct!"
The robot powered up its lasers and blasted the dragon out of existence, dropping Bethany's life points to 950.
"She'd better pull something out of her butt fast, or she's done for!" whispered Gwen.
Diane nodded solemnly. Once again, her friend was in danger of losing the duel, and with the prelims so close to ending, Bethany would have a hard time recovering if she lost this duel.
Bethany closed her eyes. I should have called for Critias... She then shook her head. No. Diane's right. Using that dragon is just asking for trouble! I should only use Critias if I need to. Right now, I know I can win this duel. If only my deck can show me the way... She drew the card and opened her eyes before it. Her lips pursed.
"Well, are you gonna give up or are you gonna just waste our time?" asked Johnathan. "I ain't got all day, love."
Bethany smirked. "I intend to end this duel. Now." She slapped the card she had drawn down. "I sacrifice all three of my Mokey Mokey to summon my strongest monster!"
"WHAT?!" cried Diane and Gwen in shock, surprised that she had a monster that required a tribute.
"You're sacrificing THREE monsters?" gasped Johnathan in shock. "But only the God Cards..."
"Sorry, but there are two more monsters which you can sacrifice three monsters to summon," said Bethany. "Of course, they are only eight-star monsters, but by sacrificing a third, you can activate their special effects."
The three fairies vanished into light and a storm cloud formed overhead. Thunder crashed and lightning flashed.
"I summon...GILFORD THE LIGHTNING!" cried Bethany as a bolt of lightning slammed into the ground. A golden-armored warrior with a red mask appeared and let out a battle cry! (2800/2600)
"She has GOT to tell us where she got that monster!" whispered Gwen.
"Yeah, she never used it in her last duel, and I haven't seen her use it before then either," said Diane under her breath.
"Big deal, it's 1000 points stronger than my Cannon," said Johnathan meekly.
"Oh, but there's more," said Bethany as Gilford unsheathed his sword. "Your Lunatite may protect your monster from magic cards, but it won't save it from monster effects, and when I sacrificed my three Mokey Mokey for Gilford, I activated his effect...DESTROYING ALL YOUR MONSTERS IN ONE BLOW!"
"No..." said John, wide-eyed in horror.
"Show this cross-dresser what you've got, Gilford!" commaned Bethany.
The warrior raised his sword and a bolt of lightning struck it. The lightning shot out and annihilated X-Head Cannon. Johnathan's life points dropped to 1075.
"And now to end this duel once and for all!" said Bethany. "Gilford...DIRECT ATTACK!" The warrior shot forward and lanced John in the gut, dropping his life points to zero.
"YEAAAAAAAH!!!" cried her friends, dancing a victory jig. "She won!"
The disks deactivated. "Well, that was an...interesting match, Bethany," said Johnathan with a sigh. "I was surprised at that trump you pulled. But a deal is a deal. Here are your star pins." He removed the six star pins from his card and handed them to Bethany. "You've earned them."
"Thank you. You are a bit weird-looking, but you are a nice girl...I mean, guy," said Bethany, blushing. She turned to the others and stabbed the pins onto her card. "What do you think?"
"You're in the finals now, like me," said Gwen, hugging Bethany tightly. "Now all we need is for Di to get five more pins and D.G.B. is all going to the finals!"
Diane laughed a bit sheepishly. "I've got all day and until noon tomorrow, so don't sweat it."
"Well, I'm off," said Johnathan. "I've got duels to attend, try to get back up to speed and hopefully into the finals."
"You know," said Gwen. "Despite what I said about you before, Johnny boy, you're pretty good as a duelist. That XYZ combo is something not to be sneezed at. I hope you get in the finals, even if you...er...dress strange."
"Thanks love, I'll remember that compliment," winked Johnathan. He checked his compact. "Oh dear, my makeup's running! Better get back to the pad and get it fixed. A nice shower might be nice." He waved. "Ciao!" He left.
"Well, that's an interesting duelist," giggled Diane. "But personally, I hope that he doesn't wear that dress to the finals. He'll stick out like a sore thumb." The others joined in her laughter.
To be continued...
