    Default E3 2009

Alright this is my effort to try and spif up the Video Game Forum, since people have mentioned how it died. Anyway E3 is next week, and being kicked off by Microsoft next Monday at Noon CST, 10 PST. All the major gaming websites will be doing live blogs, and I would guess Spike will be streaming it live. Anyway the first bombshell was dropped today.

    The New PSP GO

Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Jak & Daxter and Metal Gear Solid are all either confirmed or mentioned for it

16 gigs of flash memory and bluetooth support

The PSP Go will arrive this fall.

Next week there most likely will be something involving Metal Gear Solid either at Sony or Microsoft's presser, and Lionhead is expected to make a large announcement. Anyway I made this topic to talk about the influx of gamer news we will be getting in the next week!

Has Sony even managed to turn a profit on this crap yet?

    Also, E3 2008?

I'm concerned about what Nintendo has in store. I would love for them to have a "blow my mind" announcement, which will most likely not happen but I would still like to hear it.

Well we already know they're probably gonna say something about HeartGold/SoulSilver, even if it won't be out until sometime next year in the US.

I'm more concerned about what Capcom might want to show off. I'm kinda hoping for another surprise out of the Mega Man side of things (Mega Man 9 was a pretty pleasant surprise....wish it wasn't download-only *curses dial-up*).

And also, I'm kinda hoping maybe a mention will be made to .hack//Link, but I get the feeling there won't be. I don't even know how much progress has been made in the japanese version of the game, let alone any idea of when the english version might start to come around.

Didn't Miyamoto says something about the Mario and Zelda teams hard at work on something special? Then again anything has to be better than last year's Wii Music announcement!

    * Looks back at Nintendo's 2003 announcement of PakMan *

    Er...Maybe not

After the disappointing show last year, I really hope Nintendo wises up and brings out the big guns. I keep getting the feeling that the Zelda game hinted at last year is Spirit Tracks. Mario on the other hand, has to be a new game. Come on Nintendo, announce it!

I didn't notice this when I first posted this topic but Nikkei Newspaper is reporting on several events happening later this year, this is reported via Kotaku

What were looking at is Wii Fit Plus, and a new Mario game as we have already been talking about, being out in Japan by the end of this year.

Also I doubt we will hear anything about Heart Gold/Soul Silver at E3, when it comes to Pokemon, Nintendo likes to talk about games coming out over here, even if they are out in Japan. I would love to be wrong, but I am guessing the best we will get is localized screens of "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky" in English.

Yeah, the North American release of HG/SS (March '10, going off of past release patterns) is too far away for them to showcase those games at E3, which is an American, not Japanese, show.

Oh yeah, thought I'd add, Pikmin 3 is being widely speculated on.

I feel like Nintendo has a big hardcore gamer announcement this year. They heard the complaints about last years show being all casual. Also Zelda Spirits Tracks was announced at GDC which isn't really a big press show so I think they would have saved that for E3 if they didn't have something up there sleeves.

Sounds like Sony's big announcement was already spoiled with the PSP Go. Looks pretty good, also expect an announcement for more downloaded PSP games. God of War 3 should be on display. Maybe a release date for GT5? PS3 Slim is also rumored.

I'm really hoping Microsoft will drop some big game announcement. It's already rumored Alan Wake will be at the show and Forza 3 will be announced. Those are good and all but I'm hoping for a bombshell game announcement.

As for just different developers here's what I'd like to see. From Harmonix I'd love for them to give out some more details on Rock Band Beatles and LEGO Rock Band. Valve has been quite on the next project since L4D was finished. Half Life 2 Episode 3? Portal 2? Something new? SquareEnix has been doing a lot of great handheld RPGs and Remakes over the last couple years Final Fantasy 5 or 6 on DS please!

Kojima said MGS4 was the last game he was going to produce. They're still gonna do spin offs or sequels he's not in charge of. Also Kojima claimed he was done with Metal Gear after both 2 and 3.

Why do I get the feeling the announcements we're hearing so much about will cause about as much of an uproar as when they announced the Revolution was going to be renamed to Nintendo Wii? D:

Even though E3 doesn't officially start until tomorrow and Microsoft's press conference is still an hour away a bunch of news has come in.

LEGO Harry Potter has finally been confirmed. A Guitar Hero game for PSP was mentioned last night in a conference call to investors. Crysis 2 has been announced, this time it's not PC only it's coming to 360 and PS3 as well. From Lucas Arts we will be getting a new Monkey Island episodic game coming to PC and WiiWare also a special edition of the original monkey island is coming to PC and the XBLA.

A lot of big announcements from Microsoft. Forza 3, Halo: Reach, Modern Warfare Map Packs, New Metal Gear Solid coming to Xbox, Alan Wake, Facebook, Twitter, and updated Netflix.

The biggest thing was definitely Project Natal. If Microsoft can get this working the way they claim it will be amazing. Personally I'm not gonna be sold on it until I can try it out myself.

Project Natal is most likely going to go the way as the PS Eye, and Microsoft's other video device. Good attempt, but you need a console to be exclusively built around that type of system for it to even work. If you don't then you are going to get a handful of First and Third Party filler games, and then it disappears off the face of the Earth. After last year's disastrous E3 conference trying to show off it's own "Nintendo killing family gear" you would think they would have learned their lesson. Having a spiffed up version of "Hey you Pikachu" and "Mario Paint" isn't going to push this thing.

Also was it me or did FF13 look VERY downgraded compared to the PS3 Demo released last month.

Yeah Final Fantasy did look a bit off. I'm hoping that they'll be able to optimize the game more before it comes out or I'll end up getting it for the PS3 instead.

One thing people over at Kotaku picked up, Microsoft never used the "E" word when talking about Metal Gear Solid Rising. As big of a Sony Fan Boy the creator seems to be, I would bet that there was some arm twisting to get the game on both systems and not have it exclusive to the 360.

  24. #24

    Default Re: E3 2009

Well I never really thought there would be any shot at MGS being exclusive to the Xbox. I think they probably had to do some arm twisting to get the game on XBox.

Also I might have missed it but I didn't hear them mention that Splinter Cell was exclusive. I know when it was announced a couple years ago it was only coming to Xbox.

One thing I'm let down was how few arcade games were shown off. Normally they have a montage that shows off a bunch of new games. This year they only announced two of them. Maybe they'll show more off on the show floor.

    Forza's a racing game, right?

OK, Halo something-or-other, no surprise there. Modern Warfare stuff... MGS on the 360? This oughta be good for a laugh. Facebook and Twitter on 360 oughta be even better. And I dunno who Alan Wake is, so... yeah. I'm not exactly pining for my old Xbox 3-

Not as fun as the ball I had with Hey You Pikachu. And did anyone notice that the boy's movements did not match the movements of the karate fighter on the screen? It was just a pre-rendered demo to make people go "ooh".

Alright, just woke up and did a bit of looking around... Far as I can see, Microsoft's big announcement(s) was/were Halo (surprise surprise) and this Natal VR-Eye-whatever-the-heck-it-is, along with MGS.

Ubisoft, on the other hand, people went completely batshit over. Seriously, everywhere I look all I see is "WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS" this and "tween" that and "James Cameron" this thing. What the HELL went on yesterday?

And why's nobody talking about EA's announcement? Is that a good sign or a bad sign?

Alright, I think I've got all the info I need now. EA was "meh" save the Star Wars trailer, Ubisoft was a snorefest, and Microsoft itself managed to raise Hell across the Internet with MGS Rising, L4D2, and those Natal and Tony Hawk doohickeys that I'm hearing about left and right.

Nintendo's only an hour away... I'll listen in on it and Sony from time to time. Fact of the matter is that even in video games, news is news. And news bores me to tears. I'll catch the abridged versions here and on /v/ later, anyway.
