alright ths is going to sound dreadful and idiotic on my part, but is there ANY freakin way to play WoW with dial up speeds on my computer? the onlypart i am stuck on is downloading the p[atches and it is taking DAYS just to download one patch. i know this is a pretty hopeless question but does anyone know how to make it go faster? anyone that tries to help i thank you greatly. i just really wanna play!

anyways, I was looking at a previous WoWthread here in the Video Games forum and apparently there is ALOT of WoW players here. I am sorta a noob, BUT ONLY SORTA. (i have played like 1000 10 day trials XD) so i havent gotten quite far with one character. hence that i cant seem to figure out why the patches take forever. but tips, yes yes, i would like some tips.

from what i saw, the moajority of the people tht play like allianc races, so i am going to go with the alliance.

1. what race should i be? preferences? i like the night elves, but i like dwarves as well... wich one?

2. i prefer somthing that you can use good weaopns and armor for like a warrior, but i like spells so maybe mage. but i dont want a paladin... cuz i dont like healing. i am thinking a warrior that can enchant his weapons. yes? no?

First off, you're screwed if you have dial up. You cannot play WoW in any significant way unless you upgrade your connection. Since I doubt you can do that though, you really can't be helped in that department

Don't play alliance just because the majority plays it. If you like the alliance races, go alliance. If you like horde, go horde. I started off alliance because I liked the look of the characters more but all of my friends played horde and I felt alone so I switched to horde after a while. There will be people to talk to on both sides so there is no wrong choice

And that goes for classes as well. Do you want to heal, dps, or tank? If you want to dps, do you want to be ranged or melee? Considering you only do 10 day trials, it would make sense for you to go dps because you'll be able to level easier and see more

If you want armor but like spells, then pally or shaman for you. Pally can dps, heal, or tank so you're not restricted to one choice. And shaman can be ranged or melee dps, depending on what you spec into

as i have played this game for a few years ill try to anser your questions.

firstly theres a lot of patches around the 400 mb mark- so all up your looking at one huge download to start playing my advice is that if any of your friends play the game copy there game folder (the entire thing over) as that gets around the downloading of patches, or you can copy the patches over and load them on but copying the whole thing is super lazy which i like. If you cannot do that then i guess you will have to wait for the downloads. I played alliance for a long time, but swapped to horde as i found that faction preferable as there are less morons, but more abusive wankers.

Potentially you can play it with dailup speeds, though you will be severely limited endgame. However when my 12mb connection gets capped, it still goes back to dialup speed, at which point i can still play most content except for large raids and going into big cities at peak hours.

Paladins are no longer limited to just healing so that is an option, other then that warriors are pretty strong but also have their limitations, i cant suggest a class because only you know what you will be able to enjoy, however i can strongly suggest against shamans as they are pretty much shafted at the moment. The class deathknight, has pretty much the same principles as a warrior, plate armour, big weapons, has limited spells (do spell dmg attacks) and is able to enchant its weapons, however you must level a character to 55 then make 1 which also starts at 55 with a free mount and free gear so thats always an option. A deathknight can be anyrace, personally im not a fan of deathknights though so i cant suggest which race is the most beneficially, however humans get some decent racials and dwarves are pretty good at axes and if you want to be an evil death dealing midget, gnomes are the way to go.

Shamans are shafted perhaps in end game but this guy is do the 10 day thing. He probably won't get past Azeroth

Damn.....didn't even know it was still possible to play WoW on dial up. Bliz canceled support for 56K years ago so I just figured it was impossible. Then again dial up itself it extremely rare now. Bottom line is I don't really think you should be playing any kind of game online with that kind of connection.

In any case in regards to patches there's really no way to avoid a long ass download time with that kind of a connection. Best bet is to follow Juu's suggestion as far as the patches go. As for factions it's a matter of preference really. Your going to have good people and idiots on both sides but from what I've seen a ton of newer players lean towards Alliance. I've encountered more elitist pricks the few times I've played Horde but in the end it's a preference call more than anything. Same with a class. Look at your playstyle and pick a class and then look at the racial skills for the races that match the class you what to play and decide from there.

Also a few quick notes. If your playing off of a trial then Dranei and Blood Elves will not be open to you. You need BC for those. As a result this also locks you out from making a Horde Pally or Alli Shammy. As for DK's forget it. Trial limit cap is 20 and even if you were able to hit 55 you would need both BC and Wrath to even play one.
