Gotta catch 'em all

So... have you done it? And in what games?

The only game I've caught them all in is Red. Started out motivated by the rumors that you would get Mew after catching all 150, but kept going even after finding out that that wasn't true. At that point, I was just doing it for bragging rights and maybe a part of me still wanted to believe that that rumor about getting Mew really was true. I ended up hacking for that Mew to get a full 151/151.

I was much less motivated the next gen, since that meant catching all of those pokemon again, or at the very least trading them over and breeding them, which is also tedious. Also, in Red I benefited from having almost every other person on the planet playing Pokemon, so that helped me fill out the dex and in later generations, I didn't have that luxury. I tried again in Diamond, but came up short since there were just so many.

But now... I've decided that I gotta catch 'em all. With a limited free period for Pokemon Bank, I knew I had to transfer over all my legendaries, and any other rare Pokemon that are hard to come by in X/Y. With all those Pokemon transferred over and the new Exp Share mechanics making it easy to mass level up Pokemon, I realized that it might just be feasible this time around. And the other night, when I ran into two shinies in one night, I was reminded of the big motivation to fill out the dex: the Shiny Charm.

So, anyone else?

Twice! The first time was in Blue (I could have quit early, I had filled the whole Pokedex except for Blastoise, but because I had a Mew the game calculated it as a full 150) and I was entirely unimpressed with my reward. The second time was in Silver, which was a much slower and more infuriating process because of all the happiness-based evolutions. Crobat was the last one I got.

I might be close to a full Pokedex again this gen, since I've sent over all 1,000+ Pokemon from gen 3 onward into the Bank, I'm probably just missing some middle evolutions here and there, as well as the soon-to-be-released gen 6 legendaries.

I never caught them all. In R/B/Y I missed Mew who wasn't available where I lived. In G/S I missed Mew and Celebi who again weren't available in any kind of download event. And in D/P I missed Arceus who - yet again - wasn't available in any sort of way.

I'm OCD enough to try to complete this task in whatever way I can.

I caught them all in Gen 1 and 2....admittedly it wasn't quite the daunting task it is now, but it wasn't easy. Of course, ye olde GameShark had to come into play to get Mew and Celebi.

Gen 3, I did it with Emerald as well as FireRed and LeafGreen. Emerald's cloning glitch came in handy for trading Legendaries around, the AR came into play for things like Lugia, Ho-oh, Deoxys, the Latis, and Mew (by getting their event items, not straight haxing) and Celebi

Gen 4 I did it in all five games. Again, had to cheat a little to get the event things, but otherwise I pretty much pulled it off with only a lot of effort (and trading and breeding). On that note, why is Shiny Arceus considered illegal? If you could get to where it actually could be encountered in D/P/Pt, you could conceivably get one. Then again, the Azure Flute was ultimately a Dummied Out item, so I guess that could be the reason...

Gen 5.....I'm currently working on. I intend to do it in all four games.....although I still have some details to iron out.

I've never done it. It was impossible to get Mew in my area when I was playing Red, so it was a moot point. Not to mention I couldn't trade because no one else was playing. Now trading is far easier, but there are tons of Pokemon, and I don't see the point. So, I never tried to, and I don't intend to try either.

Never did the National dex before but I HAVE completed the BW Dex once and the Platinum Sinnoh dex (by seeing each Pokemon in it) a couple of times. I'm close to finishing all of the Kalos Dexes. I believe the most I need for one of them is 20 but the costal is almost complete. I'm short about 10 Pokemon.

Never caught them all. Although I got two Mews from ILikePokemon;P who had an advertisement in his signature. I sent my Pokemon Red to him to Australia and got it back with the Mews in.
