Yu-Gi-Oh: The Six Avatars
Prologue: King of Fiends
“Welcome back ladies and gentleman!” the commentator screamed out over the cheers of the people in the grandstands, “to the Adelaide Regional Finals! For those who have just tuned in, this is Mimi Penelope and so far, Forte Angelo is in the lead with over Daniel Winston the 3rd with Forte on 2500 lifepoints and Daniel on 1300!”
Forte wished the girl would just shut up long enough for him to think. All through the tournament he had to put up with her over-the-top screeching and throughout this duel he had to put up with this brit’s stupid ye olde speech. Forte stood over his opponent by a few good inches, his long, pale lavender hair tied into a ponytail with a few bangs hanging out the front and poisonous green eyes. The red coat he wore was done up, hiding the rest of his clothing except for his black boots and gloves. His eyes surveyed the field. So far, Forte had a Skull Knight #2 in attack mode (1000/1200) and his opponent had an Axe Raider in attack mode (1700/1150) and a face down card. It was currently Forte’s move.
“Make thy move knave!” Daniel exclaimed. Forte cringed at his opponent’s statement. While it wasn’t a bad thing to have some connection with your deck, it didn’t mean you could speak like some idiot stuck in the Middle Ages. Forte glared at his opponent as he drew. Daniel’s chocolate brown hair was cut short, and very well groomed and his hazel eyes watched from behind a pair of glasses (Forte could clearly see there were no lenses and that the things were for show). He was dressed as a rich snob in a black suit. Just because your name ends with “the 3rd” doesn’t mean that you’re royalty, thinking that only makes you an idiot.
“I summon Archfiend Soldier in attack mode!” The diabolical form of Forte’s fiend appeared on the field. It drew it’s sword and gave Daniel’s Axe Raider an evil smirk (1900/1500). The Axe Raider stepped back nervously. A cocky smile spread across Forte’s face.
“This guy’s famous for getting the job done,” Forte said in a devil-may-care sort of tone, “And today is no exception. Archfiend, wipe the floor with this pom’s Axe Raider!” The Archfiend Soldier gave a small growl before leaping in the air, its sword ready to slice the raider in two.
“Halt!” Daniel cried out, “I activate Wobaku! You shall not pass!” The three wobaku maidens appeared in front of the raider. The archfiend stopped inches in front of them. A look of annoyance flashed across its face as it stepped back. The same look was mirrored by Forte perfectly.
Am I the only guy who doesn’t have that card in my deck?
“I’ll end my turn then,” Forte shrugged off his irritation. He could always attack next turn, right?
Daniel smiled smugly as he drew.
“I now play Cost Down!” he announced, slipping the card into his duel disk.
“At the cost of one card, I shall call forth the leader of my noble army! Axe Raider, begone!” Daniel’s raider lowered its axe before being engulfed a sand storm.
“Now villain! Prepare for the general of my army!” Forte put his guard up.
This is it!
“Come forth! Gaia the Fierce Knight!”
Forte’s jaw dropped.
Gaia seemed to appear out of nowhere, leaping over his master and onto the field. His horse reared up on its hind legs before Gaia glared down at the still stunned Forte (2300/2100). Daniel noticed this and smirked.
“It seems you’ve met your match haven’t you? Your fiends shall fall by Gaia’s mighty lances!”
“You idiot!!”
Daniel was temporarily knocked out of character by Forte’s outburst.
“Uh, what?”
“You’re telling me you based your deck on Gaia!?”
“But of course! Gaia is the strongest of all the knights!”
“Not to mention the most pathetic seven star monster in existence!!!” A small scowl appeared on Daniel’s face.
“Watch your tongue knave!”
“I mean, God! There so many better monsters that you summon that are less then seven stars! There’s Summoned Skull, Jinzo, the list goes on!” All this time, the three monsters had been watching back and forth throughout this entire argument. Gaia looked a bit distressed that his master was loosing, and a bit ticked off the he was being insulted. Forte’s fiends on the other hand were trying their hardest not to die laughing. Daniel was now getting very pissed off.
“Silence! I’ll show you the power of Gaia! Gaia, slay his Archfiend Soldier!!” Gaia gave a small war cry as he charged at the fiend, plunging one of his lances into his chest. The archfiend gave out one last cry before exploding into pixels.
Forte: 2100
Daniel: 1300
Forte gave an annoyed sigh as he shook his head.
“Idiot!” he muttered.
“What was that?” Daniel commanded.
“Once again Daniel, you have made yourself look like an idiot!”
“I have not! I slew your archfiend like it was nothing!”
“True, but if you had been smart enough to attack my Skull Knight #2, you would’ve done a hell of a lot more damage!” It was true, Forte had forgotten to switch his Skull Knight into defence mode. Daniel growled, but gave an arrogant smile.
“Fear not! I shall destroy your fake knight next!” Forte’s eyes twitched. Fake knight? Sure, Skull Knight #2 was no Skull Knight #1, but calling it a fake knight? Bad, British idiot.
“Make your move fiend!” Daniel laughed, “It shall do you no good!” Forte drew and snarled. Unfortunately, Daniel was right.
Sure, there are a hundred and one monsters that are better then Gaia. The only problem is, [B]I don’t have any at the moment![B]
“I’ll summon this guy face down in defence mode,” a face down card appeared before Forte, “and I’ll switch my Skull Knight into defence mode.” The Skull Knight knelt down, holding its sword like a shield.
“Your move lord dumbass!” The brunette snarled at the insult as he drew, a smile formed on his features as he looked at the card.
“You’re going to wish you kept your mouth shut fiend!” he laughed, “If you thought Gaia was terrifying, what I’m about to call forth is even worse!” Forte raised an eyebrow. He didn’t think Gaia was scary, infact he thought it was stupid.
“I play, Polymerization!” Forte rolled his eyes. He knew what was coming.
“I combine my knight with the powerful Curse of Dragon!” The skeletal form of the Curse of Dragon appeared on the field. The polymerization card appeared on the field and a portal opened up, sucking the two monsters in. With a blast of wind and a large figure shot out of the portal. It flew around the arena before stopping in front of Daniel. Gaia pointed its lance at Forte.
“I give you, Gaia the Dragon Champion! (2600/2100)”
Forte shook his head again.
“You really are an idiot aren’t you?” he asked, his eyes showing a hint of annoyance.
“What are you talking about!?” Daniel yelled, pretty ticked off.
“It would have made a lot more sense if you tried to summon Curse of Dragon separately. They would have done a lot more damage separate. Now all you have is one monster who’s hardly any better than Gaia.”
“Hardly any better!? He has twenty six hundred attack points! That’s more than what you have!”
“And to top it all off,” Forte continued, “You can’t attack! The rules state that you can’t attack with a fusion monster on the same turn it was formed.” Daniel growled.
“Then it is thy move.” If the act wouldn’t get him disqualified, Forte would have walked right up to him and punched him in the face. Instead, Forte drew, and a small smirk appeared on his face.
“Like I said Daniel,” he spoke in a calm voice, “There’re plenty of monster’s better then Gaia the Fierce Knight. And you’re going to meet one of them.”
“Oh? Who?” Forte’s smirk broadened.
“First of all, I sacrifice my Skull Knight #2.” A dark portal opened beneath the Skull Knight’s feet. The fiend sank into it as darkness began to pour out.
“And now I’ll bring in the main man of this event! Come on out, Dark Ruler Ha Des!”
A tall fiend arose from the darkness. He resembled a fiendish king, its red eyes staring down on Daniel with contempt. He took a sip from the glass of wine he was holding (2450/1600).
“And also, because I sacrificed my Skull Knight #2 to summon a fiend, I can special summon one from my deck!” From the same portal, a second Skull Knight #2 arose and drew its sword (1000/1200).
“And finally, I switch my defence card into attack mode. Show yourself Ryu-kishin Powered!” A pink, gargoyle like beast appeared. It flexed its claws as its evil, yellow eyes glared at Daniel (1600/1200)
Daniel stepped back in fright, but his confidence quickly returned.
“Impressive. But, while you’re royal fiend would have slain the old Gaia, my dragon champion shall slay all three of your fiends!” This caused Forte to laugh. Daniel was confused.
“True, your champion’s stronger, but there’s something that me and Ha Des here have that neither you nor Gaia ever had.”
“And what’s that?” Forte chuckled.
“We’re a big hit with the ladies.”
“What!?” Forte pulled a card from his hand.
“And this card proves it. I play, Malevolent Nuzzler!” A beautiful fiend appeared and nuzzled up to the Dark Ruler. The fiend gave playful smile as he took her under his free arm and his attack rose to 3150. Forte laughed at the expression on Daniel’s face.
“Every ruler needs a hot girl and now that Ha Des has his, he can stomp over almost anything.” Forte gave a grin which unnerved the English boy.
“Now Ha Des, show him why they call me, Dark Ruler Forte! Destroy Gaia with Flames of the Dark Ruler!” The dark ruler took a gulp of his wine before breathing a stream of black and purple fire at the dragon champion. Both Gaia and his steed cried out in pain as they fell to the floor, exploding into pixels on impact.
Forte: 2100
Daniel: 750
Daniel stood still, his eyes wide open and his jaw almost reaching the floor. His ‘general’ was destroyed and to make matters worse, there were two more fiends eyeing him hungrily, waiting for Forte to say the word. The lavender haired duellist paced back and forth, clearly think about which monster should finish him off. He snapped his fingers when he came to a decision.
“Time to end this,” Forte announced with a playful smirk on his lips, “and since you kept badmouthing my fiends throughout this duel, its payback time!” His expression hardened as he pointed at Daniel.
“Ryu-Kishin Powered! It’s chow time!” The gargoyle let out a roar of delight as it dived towards Daniel. It struck him with its claws, sending the English boy toppling off of the stage.
Forte: 2100
Daniel: 0
The crowd went wild, and so did Penelope.
“And there you have it folks! With a stunning come back, Forte Angelo has won the Adelaide Regional Finals!”
Come back? When was I in trouble?
Without a word, Forte turned, stepped down from the stage and walked out of the main arena. He sighed in boredom as he walked into the empty halls of the stadium, everyone else was still in the main arena.
Well, almost everyone.
He was knocked out of his trail of thought (if he had one), by someone clapping behind him. He turned to see someone leaning back on the wall behind him, clapping lazily.
The guy was about the same age as Forte and a bit shorter in terms of height. He had wild, firey red hair which stuck up all over the place, varely covering his electric blue eyes. He wore a white shirt, which was tucked (in a very sloppy manner) into his pants, a pitch black jacket with strange bright yellow patterns, a pair of black pants of similar colour and pattern and a pair of old, brown combat boots.
“Nice duel Forte,” The guy spoke, an amused smirk spreading across his face. The lavender haired eighteen year old rolled his eyes.
“Are you kidding Reece? That guy was a light weight.” Reece laughed as Forte shok his head in dissapointment.
“Honestly, how that guy got into the finals to begin with is beyond me. Not only should he have been eliminated ages ago, but he should’ve been kicked out with that annoying accent of his.” Reece looked over to his right and his smirk broadened.
“Speaking of annoyances, here comes one now.” Forte turned around, and then instantly wished he hadn’t.
Forget Daniel Winston, Mimi Penelope had to be the most annoying person he’d ever met.
The girl was about two thirds of Forte’s hight and looked two years younger then he was (Forte often wondered how Mimi became a commentator at such a young age). Her bright pink hair was cut short so it just reached her chin and her violet eyes stared directly into Forte’s green as she approached him. She was wearing a rose red button-up blouse (probably in some vein attempt to make her small carriage appear bigger), a pair of tight, dark blue jeans and a pair of red high heels.
“There you are,” she said as she walked up to the pair, “nice duel.” Forte disagreed, but decided to keep his mouth shut. Mimi pulled out a check from her blouse and handed it to him. Forte quickly stuffed the check into his pocket, trying not to think about where that check had been.
“See you next tournament,” Forte muttered as he and Reece turned to leave.
“Um, Forte,” Mimi spoke up. Forte stopped and rolled his eyes. He knew this was coming. There wasn’t a single tournament where this didn’t happen.
“Yes?” he asked as he turned.
“Well,” Mimi tried to give Forte what was supposed to be a seductive look, “I was wondering, if you were doing anything tonight, we could…” Forte cut her off before she could finish.
“I’m sorry, but I’ve already got plans for tonight.” Mimi looked down at the ground.
“Oh…ok,” a trace of dissapointment in her voice. Forte wasn’t one to intentionally break a woman’s heart, but going on a date with Mimi was something he (and every other guy who knew her), didn’t want to do. He learnt why the hard way.
“Maybe next time,” Forte replied, trying to cheer the girl up as he turned to walk away. Mimi gave a small smile and nodded.
“Ok, next time.” She turned and ran off down the hall as Forte and Reece left the stadium.
“A couple thousand,” Forte muttered as he read the check, “Why do I feel like I’m getting over paid.” Reece laughed at his buddy’s little joke.
“Think of it as easy money Forte,” he said, slapping Forte on the back as they walked down the streets of Adelaide. Forte sighed as he looked up at the evening sky.
“I know Reece, but…”
“But what?” Forte sighed in frustration.
“It’s all too easy! There’s no challenge in beating on pathetic duelists like Lord Brain-Dead before.” Reece just stared at his friend.
“I thought you became a duellist mainly for the money.”
“That was the idea, but if this is the way things are going to be, I may as well get a job. It’ll at least prevent me from dieing from boredom.” Reece chuckled, possibly at the thought of his friend working at a fast food joint like McDonalds or something.
“Cheer up buddy. There’s plenty of decent duellists for you to sink your teeth into.” Forte stopped.
“Yeah, but there’s one small problem. They’re all the way across the ocean, and I’m stuck here.” Reece shrugged.
Well, look on the bright side. You’re one of the best duellists in Australia, you’ve got girl’s who’ll kill eachother to be with you, and you’re old enough to drink as much beer as you want. Any sane man would give up their right arm to have that kind of life.” Fotre gave a short laughed as he looked to the ground, shaking his head.
“Trust me dude, having girls kill eachother over you is not as good a thing as you would think. I cant go through one week without some crazy fangirl calling me, claiming to have had my child.” The two burst into laughter.
“Yeah,” Reece agreed between bursts of laughter, “How many kids are you supposed to have now?”
“I don’t know! I lost count at eight!”
It took them a few good minutes to calm down. Forte was forced to lean on Reece for support.
“thanks Reece,” he said, “I needed that.” Reece gave a casual shrug.
“What are friends for dude. Come on, the guys at Neon Impact are probably waiting for us.” Forte stood up straight, pretending to straighten out his coat.
“We mustn’t keep our fans waiting.” He joked before the friends continued down the road.
Hey Guys, Forte here. Well, I know I said my life needed more excitement, but I had no idea it would lead to this.
And it all began when I got that card…
If you guys wanna know what I’m talking about, stick around the next chapter ”A Gift?” See ya around.
