Re: Original Webcomic Manga: The Iron Wizard
Dark-san: Actually that mask was inspired by the hero of V for Vendetta. I really liked the idea of that creepy, smiling mask, and ran with it.
If you want spoilers for the main villain, and more about the masks, see below. If not, just skip.
Oh yeah, and how come the [spoiler] tags don't work no more?!
The smiling masks with closed eyes are the hallmark of the Prophets, a mysterious group of rebels. Their members range from wizards, magicians, cyborgs, and androids, and are comprised of all the outcasts of the country. Each mask is enchanted, so it attaches automatically to the wearer's face, and becomes like a one-way mirror: to the person wearing it is is transparent, so they can see right through it, giving them excellent range of vision. However to anyone else, it would appear as if they were blind. The mark in the center of the forhead is usually of a token of the member's heritage. The leader of the Prophets, a man named Manigula, has a a spiral on his mask, indicating the flow of time and the theory that everything runs in a spiral: repeating patterns, but moving forward. This spiral was the symbol of an ancient Tijanese Cult also known as the Prophets, and they were the chief rivals of the Children of Infinity, who wear the sign of Infinity (?). The Cult of the Prophets was destroyed over two hundred years ago in a savage Wizard's War that ripped the islands of Tijanis apart, and caused the Children of Infinity to retreat into exile.
