Mad money - Isles give DiPietro record 15-year, $65.7 million deal
Now that's outrageous. The Islanders now have a player who really can't play any position other than goalkeeper, and they've got him until he's 40. As the article mentioned, the only known contract that was longer in North American sports history was the 25-year contract Magic Johnson signed with the NBA's L.A. Lakers in 1981. (If you don't know how that turned out, let's just say that Magic wasn't playing any hoops last year.) Not to mention that he'll get over 10% of the team's maximum payroll for every one of these 15 years.
Well, is this a smart buy, or is it foolish? Is DiPietro worth the unusual move, or will this devastate the Islanders further? What do you think?
