...well, uh, Mario. Dang it.
But Pokémon is an astonishingly strong number two on that list. Outclassing the likes of Zelda, Final Fantasy, GTA, and Tetris, the various Pokémon games have sold a spectacular 164 million copies according to a Yahoo! report. That leaves them only 31 million behind Mario (who, to be fair, has had over two decades to work with) and a whopping 74 million beyond the reach of third-place finisher, The Sims.
Considering the closeness between Mario and Pokémon in sales, and the fact that Mario's had twice as much time to build his figures, one has to wonder if Pokémon will soon dominate all competitors. Some might argue it could happen as soon as the anticipated third game of the DP generation, while others might think a few trios down the line is a more reasonable time frame. And still others may argue that it won't happen at all. Can we expect to eventually pass even the legendary Jumpman to take the throne of video gaming?
