Muse- Knights of Cydonia
The Ninja was never really realistic with exactly what she could and couldn’t do, especially concerning monsters, but she was always willing to give it a go. So whilst this Dragon was distracted by some of her fellow survivors, she quickly scurried up its tail and onto its back, where she began to hack and slash at it, but not really getting anywhere. It hadn’t really helped that people were trying to kill it; maybe it would have stayed still rather than stomp around if they stopped attacking, or perhaps she’d be char grilled, and since the latter wasn’t really appealing, she was glad she was getting at least some form of support.
Even if it did cause her to stumble forwards and backwards more often than she hit the bloody thing.
However, it didn’t matter. As per usual, the girl seemed to have more balance on an uneven, slippery surface than she did on solid ground, much to her surprise. Also, much to the annoyance of the Dragon, who was quite content with trying to throw her off in the time it didn’t spend trying to roast people.
As she fell back into one of the Dragon’s spiky bits on its back and clung to it for dear life, her attention shifted onto something completely different. No, she didn’t want to hurt it anymore, but that pretty, shiny scale that she’d managed to loosen looked very appealing to her.
“Screw Ivalican treasures!” She declared, mostly for the benefit of herself, taking precarious steps forward. “Dragon scales will sell for higher! That and I’ll look like some awesome Dragon slayer.”
She wibbled and wobbled, lurching forwards as something obviously distracted the Dragon. Looking down, she saw Adair below, sword in hand, narrowly missing a nasty blow from the tail. Deciding she needed to start acting a little faster, partly for the safety of her comrade below and partly because she felt a little bit sea-sick up here, she threw one of her shuriken forwards, dislodging the scale she was after just enough that she’d probably be able to pull it free. However, Dragon scales are tougher than most things, and despite the obvious damage her shuriken caused, it came to a stop, and slid off the dragon’s back, again just missing her pirate friend.
Shayna, the ever-determined thief, pulled upon the scale with all her might.
Gravity did not concern her, she knew she wouldn’t fall, as long as it kept moving. She dug her heels in as much as she could, using all remaining strength in her rather tired arms in an attempt to get it free.
All was well. Until Sori cast Stop.
It stopped so abruptly that the poor little girl lost her footing, freeing the scale as she tumbled towards the unforgiving ground below, her other shuriken having slipped from its holding place and fallen ahead of her.
Dear Yevon... She prayed as she closed her eyes. Please don’t let me be impaled by my own weapon. Break my back if you so wish... Also, don’t let the pirates have my scale, and make Adair feel guilty so he gives me my hat back... Oh, and tell-
She was interrupted, not by being impaled, not by one of Sori’s spells hitting her on her decent, not by meeting the cold, hard tiles...
No, instead she landed softly, which she was very much grateful for, until she saw what it was, or rather, who it was she landed on.
Damnit... She cursed, frowning. I’m never going to be able to ask for that hat back now...
“Would you PLEASE stop throwing things at me! I was trying to SAVE YOU!” He called, muffled by his sleeve. “First a pointy star, then another pointy star, and then yourself!”
“I wasn’t throwing things... I was dropping things.” She corrected, quietly getting to her feet, admiring her pretty Dragon scale.
“I was just trying to help!” He remained on the floor, his head still buried in his sleeve.
“Thank you!” Shayna replied simply, confused as to why he hadn’t got up yet.
“I shouldn’t have bothered really...”
“Adair... Why are you still down there? I’m stood up...” She poked him with her foot, her head tilted to one side.
“Some gratitude I get for-”
“I’ll fix your hat!”
He looked up at her, his eyes filled with adoration. “Really?”
“I have plenty of Chocobo feathers.” She smirked, mostly to herself. “Rest in peace, Bobo...”
As he got to his feet and she picked up her weapons, the shiny, priceless scale safely in her bag, the Ninja’s ever observant eyes glanced back towards the Dragon’s tail, her heart racing as it started to twitch. “Guys, this thing is starting to move again!”
Quickly, she grabbed hold of Adair’s arm, dragging him away, as they were both practically right underneath Mr Angry Dragon, and since she’d not broken her back from falling, she’d rather not get squished by angry paws.
She caught a glance at Temzi as she ran, who had slowed the Dragon and was attacking. Suddenly, she felt a little better about the whole situation as the wind somehow picked up a bit. It was odd. She shrugged it off, glad that someone was keeping the monster occupied whilst they could escape.
