On the run

I ran as fast as I could, thanking anything I could that I was agile enough to dodge the branches better than anyone else. As such, I was able to reach the camp first, even before Roy who was usually a faster runner. Doing the only thing that I thought was right, I screamed at the top of my lungs, "Rockets are invading, get out of here!"

The reaction was instantaneous. Every single tent came alive as people frantically grabbed their essentials and started fleeing in different directions. I quickly dove into my tent and grabbed my backpack, shoving my stuff in as quickly as I could. I was about to dive out when I heard a familiar grunt. I peeked out to see Braden sitting near my tent, holding the strange creature.

Roy soon appeared, attempting to get Braden to move. The problem was that he didn't seem to be able to carry the creature much longer, and I could feel that Braden didn't want to abandon it to the Rockets. A gun cocked and they turned their attention to another Rocket who had managed to get to the camp faster than the other two. She was standing with her back to me, a gun extended at the two of them.

Roy, always thinking of others, tried to reason with her, and as he did I noticed she had black ears and a tail, with blue rings around them. It seemed she had gotten some kind of mutation like Roy had. She also seemed to be rather shaky, like she wasn't doing this because she wanted to, but was forced to.

I was finally able to catch what Roy was saying, "You're not like the others, you don’t want to kill innocent people. That Pokémon, it’s the key to all of this." The girl faltered, but kept her gun held up. "Please, let me save them," Roy continued. All of a sudden, the girl swung her gun to the side, aiming at something I couldn't see.

"Stop! This isn't right!" the girl yelled, presumably towards whoever (or whatever) she was pointing the gun at. "These people aren't the problem, Team Rocket is, and I'm through with them and you." She suddenly had a fierce look in her eye, that crazy kind that meant the person had finally snapped. I knew I had to do something or someone was getting hurt.

Gathering my nerves and being as quiet as I could, I slipped out of my tent and pounced the girl, my hand quickly going for her weapon. Unfortunately, the girl was holding on too tightly and her finger pulled the trigger. A deafening blast came out as I landed on the girl, my hand pinned on her gun hand.

"Ow, first a kunai, now a bullet," a male voice said, "This is really not my night, is it?" I looked up. As I had guessed, there were Rockets standing there, two of them. Both had some very non-human formations as well, the guy had some giant hat while the girl had horns. If this girl was truly defecting, we outnumbered them, but if not, we were finished.
