What is the BEST Anime Ever?

In the interest of equal time, what do you think are among the best animes?

I'll say that FLCL has really stood out. I haven't seen a lot of the good stuff lately (lack of funds and download restrictions) but it's excellence in six episodes.

So take a break from bashing Fighting Foodtons and let's discuss the cream of the crop.

For me, it's a tie between Vision of Escaflowne and Rorouni Kenshin. ^_^

Vision of Escaflowne is just... so.... amazing. Everything about it is wonderful. Don't even get me started.

Rurouni Kenshin is great for all the same reasons as Escaflowne. The charecter development and emotional issues are so frigging deep. I love it.

I also love Furi Kuri(FLCL)! Probably one of the best shows, and really did a lot in six eppies...but I wished they had more...T_T

My favorite is probably.....a tie between Cardcaptor Sakura and .hack//SIGN

Cardcaptor Sakura was cool since I liked Sakura, the only cheerleader I've seen that behaves.....XD I liked the different types of Clow Cards, and I love the movies. The second one made me cry, and made me realize what true love really is....and I also cried extra because I knew I'd never be in love by the way people treat me.

.hack//SIGN is one of them because I really like the games. I actually sorta enjoy watching Sora being such an a**hole.....XD Tsukasa is awesome with trying to recall all of these flashbacks from the real world, but the only problem is that that I never got to see if Aura ever awoken or not....;_;

I think a lot of Animé is great, but my top few are: Furi Kuri (FLCL), Record of Lodoss War, Full Metal Panic, Naruto, and Tenchi Muyo!. Until I see some better stuff, they win

Hmm... I'm watching Noir right now, and loving every minute of it... But, of the anime I've watched so far, I'd say NGE was my fave. I love dreary, depressing stuff.

JinRoh, most ghibli films, Arjuna, kenshin (juz the shishio saga +-).

Currently watching AYA. Man, the last 2 eps were great, really emotional. Of course, if watching AYA means im continuing with Enishi. Been only so-so for the 1st few eps, hopefully it'll pick up.

I really liked Kenshin (even if the TV series wasn't the best, the OVA will kill you ^____^ - and the manga is really good too! I think it's better than the TV series sometimes.)... Its always been my fan favourite (Gyahahahahaha~!!)

What else is there, Spiral is a nice show, Gunslinger Girl I like so far (Noir is apparently quite similar, and I heard it ruled too, I want to watch that...)�C FLCL is really good stuff (Very useful lessons on animation there.... and that manga sequence still makes me laugh like hell! That was so cool.), Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away were awesome, Now and Then Here and There was really cool, uh, what else is there....?

I desparately want to watch Cowboy Bebop and NGE so I can give my opinion on them, but the blasted AXN won't show it.... There's going to be a 24-hour anime channel here soon. I want to get their schedule!! Hopefully they have one online...

EDIT: Laputa and Totoro were nice... oh, I also liked Whisper of the Heart ^_______^;;;;;;;; And I think we all understand that though FLCL was extremely confusing..... it's the most dynamic thing I've seen so far. It would be cool to know what was going on though o_O (Yet it's cool for it to be all weird and cloudy and up to your own interpretation...)

Rurouni Kenshin, because it's a virtually perfect anime all around. Gundam Wing just cuz it's deep and still manages to have awesome fights in it, and Naruto cuz it's hilarious. Sexy no Jutsu!!!!

COWBOY BEBOP! YAY!

I finally watched all the episodes on DVD. These last four were especially powerful and dramatic. And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the great style of shading and animation they employ. It's even better than a few animated movies! WOW! And the characters are all interesting, and the action, and ooh, the fight scenes, and, and, wow, space battles, and...and...okay...maybe I should stop right now.

I'll try and compile a top 10:

1. Scrapped Princess. Exceptionally well drawn, original plot and kewl as characters.
2. Full Metal Panic/Full Metal Panic? (Fumoffu). Good doses of insanity without going too far. Plus Chidori is just too hot for this planet!
3. Trigun. Vash is the man! Vash rules! Plus Meryl and Milly made the funniest spoof team ever!
4. Witch Hunter Robin. Dark, man, dark. But god, it was thrilling, addictive, and so forth. The soundtrack is killer, the plot is one of the best ever, and the drawing style is intiguing.
5. Earth Defender Mao-Chan. Kawaii as!
6. Excel Saga. Re: FMP.
7. Chobits. RE: FMP.
8. Noir. Intrguing. Female assassins never looked so good.
9. Last Exile. Damn high quality animation, intriguing plot and characters that really tear into you.
10. Please Teacher. Re: FMP.

I like many anime that have proven their worth:

Tenchi Muyo! - One of the best romantic comedies.

Furi Kuri - Just what I like, humor, innuendo, plot ho- I mean, twists, and The Pillows.

Rurouni Kenshin - Is an awesome show, both in sagas and as one big chunk.

Trigun - Another awesome show, including huge guns and "Love And Peace!"

Cowboy Bebop - Just the right shakes and tads of jazz, drama, comedy, and awesome animation.

Um, Gundam Wing. The last episode, especially, is by far the best. Everything seemed perfect. ^__^ Endless Waltz imo is the better movie. The ending was kinda sad; seeing the main characters Gundam's blow apart. (cry)

Altho, it wouldn't hurt for talking mice to have been featured, like in Voltron!

I am goin gto have to go with cowboy bebop on this one folks, the way it was so well... planned... is simply amazing to me. There are relations from episode 1 to the very last episode, all throughout the series. an amazing cast of characters that makes you give a damn about them. Spike... is just one of.. if not... the best character I have ever seen in an anime, wonderfully done and a masterful tale of love, death, and what it means to carry that weight in life

OMFG, you liked Spiral? A lot of people hated it because everything was about the Blade Children and that the villains gave themselves up too easily, Scooby Doo-esque.

Great to know there's a Spiral fan too. I liked Spiral despite its flaws, I dunno, it's got that thing about it I like. And some parts of it are cool.

Raz: Like woz said its on fansub, you might want to skip some parts of it because apparently the fighting can get fairly dragged out,... but if you've got an anime that has Sexy no Jutsu in it, maybe its worth checking out. ^_^


I don't understand your 'original plot' part of Scrapped Princess though, CCC. I watched it, the plot wasn't that original... twisty, maybe, but not original, IMO...

As of this week, Last Exile has moved into equal 1st on my list. I can' believe how good that series is!

Tomorrow I'm going to post a rant in a separate topic to discuss why it is a modern masterpiece.

My FAVORITE is Lupin III. But the best? Cowboy Bebop definetly. Naruto is good too...but Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star are both great.

I dunno, I guess I like Sci-fi westerns.

yes, it was comparable to scooby doo in that way. i enjoyed it because i liked the characters, story and the "detective" parts.

the first few episodes aren't too good in comparison with the later ones (obviously). it becomes very watchable around episode 15. i once missed college just watching around 12 episodes of the zabuza/haku storyline that day.

Anyhow, yeah. I like the Excel Saga the best because it is so retarded it's funny. The plot is a bit weird but the animation is great. I love the eyes.

Hrm... I think Yu Yu Hakusho takes the place for my favorite anime. It's got romance, action, humor.. a good combination of each to make it an enjoyable anime to watch.

Kare Kano (His and Her Circumstances) is up there too. I love romance anime's, and I think the english VA's did a wonderful job.. even though a lot of them are recognizable from pokemon. Arima's VA is my absolute favorite though.

For me it's tie between Kenshin and Gundam Wing. Kenshin's just so deep, the characters are so interesting, and the animation is great. The plot is also great and it's got some hilarious moments too *points to sig*

Gundam Wing for similar reasons as Kenshin. It's more serious and less joking around tho, but it's very fun to watch, lots of philosophical stuff and the mech battles are incredible.

5. Card Captor Sakura, the first anime I ever saw subbed, I loved it then and still love it now, I fall in love all over again every time I see it.
4. Chicchana Yukitsukai Sugar, sickeningly adorable, made by the same people that made Di Gi Charat, fairies, waffles, what more could you possibly want?
3. Kare Kano. I only saw 4 episodes, but I loved it.
2. Weiss Kreuz. I ADORE WK, the art is amazing, there's a wonderful plot, and did I mention it's WONDERFUL? ^_^
1. Fruits Basket has to be #1. The characters are awesome, the plot's great, plus it's really funny ^.^

Well, I haven't watched everything I've wanted to see yet, but I'm close. My current top 10 list and why is in my sig.

I just will never get over Last Exile. This anime crosses cultures and everything so easily. It represents so much of modern humanity. I think world leaders would do well to watch this then rethink the way they run the world.

As Lavie said in Episode 2, "What good is knighthood if you're dead?! Knighthood is bullsh!t!"

Omg, I can't believe no one mentioned Neon Genesis Evangelion. It has the deepest story I've ever seen in an anime. The character development is just amazing. There's barely any animes these day even close to the caliber of NGE.

I love NGE. I love it to the core. It's a mecha series, big deal... the real difference with NGE is they take some principles of anime and flip them upside-down. The Evas, for example, are completely different than almost any other mechas (in animes at that time, at least), and aren't truly robots at all. The main characters aren't exactly happy to do what they're doing. The characters are wonderfully developed throughout the whole series, Shinji has more issues than most of us combined... there's Kaworu ^^... and I own all 11 DVDs released in America.

X is kind of creeping up my favorite list, though...

Yu Yu Hakusho had IMO the most believable story(I mean besides Rurouni Kenshin). The charactors had AMAZING charactor development, and the personalities were actualy believable(unlike some other anime).

Dragonball Z is like the action flick of anime. I think it get badmouthed a lot, but it's fairly entertaining (even if it doesn't have the deepest plot on earth).
