    Default Good moveset for Metagross...

Hey I was just curious to see if this is an alright moveset for my Metagross. I have his EVs maxed out. And is there an item for powering up steel moves? It has been a while since I have played.

    Metagross @ Lax Insence
    Psychic
    Metal Claw
    Meteor Mash
    Hyper Beam

Any thoughts, comments, and suggestions are much appreciated!!

    Default Good moveset for Metagross...

Ahh good ol' R/S forum, you haven't changed much have you?

Ahem, for the moveset, it looks okay, should get you by in-game no problem. If this is a serious battling pokemon you might want to have Earthquake over Metal Claw, as you really only need one steel type move, and Meteor Mahs is enough. If you don't want to waste the TM or you've already spent it, give it Return, a nice solid physical attack with great PP and accuracy. (You can get Return by showing the TM man in Pacifidlog a pokemon that really likes you. I believe his is the house on the far right, and it has two Marill in it. He'll only give out one TM a week so if you visited him before you'll have to check and he'll tell you what day he'll be giving out TMs.)

Oh, and if you give Metagross Return you'll have no need of Hyper Beam (STABEd Meteor Mash is about as strong, and it doesn't cost you the regrouping turn,) So I say either teach it a defensive move, i.e. Iron Defense (Move Tutor, you have to give him a Heart Scale) or maybe Amnesia. (Same as Iron Defense.)

Oh, and the Steel empowering item is called the Metal Coat, and I'm not sure where you get it in R/S but I know you can steal them off of Magnemite w/ a Pokemon that knows Thief/Covet. It can take a while tho, I would recomend giving it either the Shell Bell or Leftovers, both are health recovering items and quite handy.

    So, maybe this set:

    Metagross
    @ Leftovers or Shell Bell
    Psychic
    Earthquake/Return
    Meteor Mash
    Iron Defense/Amnesia

It's up to you, maybe try out different ones and see what works best, that's one way you'll find out for sure.

If you have Agility in the set, I'd be more inclined to a -Speed personality (preferably Timid). It won't affect its likely order of move (either before or after using Agility), but allows you the Psychic option better, which I would suggest over HP Rock.

HP Rock is unlikely to be more effective than Psychic vs the types you would need it for (Skarmory, mainly, in Ru/Sa, Flying Water/Fire/Electric in FR/LG), and will be more effective vs Grass/Poison than Earthquake as a rule.

HP rock is also only going to come up now and then. It is unlikely to come up on the right personality and may be a weak even then. You can't breed the sucker in Ru/Sa, so it's better to work with what you have, IMHO.

    My reccomendation:

    Metor Mash
    Psychic
Earthquake/Return (if you don't want to burn a unique TM)
    Agility

    Default Metagross sets

    @Shell Bell/Leftovers
    Light Screen/Reflect
    Meteor Mash
    Earthquake/Return
    Shadow Ball

I like Light screen over Reflect, because it helps more on it's special defense, against Water and Electric attacks. basically Manetric's Thunder/bolt and Milotics Surf.

if your using frlg rock slide is an option over hp-rock, as is explosion for a filler... tends to be earthquake, meteor mash, rock slide, explosion though... (frlg once again)

psychic is usually only an anti-weezing measure...

standard is agility, quake, hp-rock, meteor mash @ liechi...

also rinku "If you have Agility in the set, I'd be more inclined to a -Speed personality (preferably Timid)." timid is -attack, +spd...

he should really only be adamant,

I see a lot of Metagross with Rest & a Chesto Berry in the set. Since it's so powerful, it would be a shame for it to get KO'd by coming across a strong Fire-type or what-have-you.

    Whups. Misread my own chart...

I did, of course, mean Brave

And, yes I agree about Adamant if you never ever want him to use Psychic.
