Having some fun with Pokemon Ruby which I just bought to get back in Pokemon which I haven't played for a long time. And I'm somewhat curious about the ingame AI, which obviously, would have certain tendecies and weaknesses. I'm curious as to what exactly those weaknesses are. Anyone mind cluing me in?

If you mean what the computer's weaknesses are, it depends.

They never take dual types in to consideration. Like, they will either repeatedly use Water attacks on Swampert or try Electric. Same thing with Lanturn.

Wild Pokemon make random moves. They don't take type or anything else in.

Battle Tower players cheat. They cheat like crazy.

They don't cheat. Their OHKO moves like Fissure, Horn Drill, Sheer Cold just seem to hit more than usual. This is called Hax. Hax is luck in Pokemon Battles and something to remember. You should take a Sturdy Pokemon into the Battle Tower because OHKO moves don't affect them.

They also have insane luck with fighting out of confusion and you have terrible luck with it. Not to mention the annoying Destiny Bonders and Exploders that litter the post-42 crowd. They break their own rules by having more than one Leftovers on a single team.

lets put it this way. the comp ai is so low, a 5 year old could easily blow throw the game in a few days. i've always advocated nintendo designing a pokemon game that used the very strategies that we use, and marketing the game strictly towards 13/14 and up. it would be more fun than watching alakazam use teleport over and over again as you poud it mercilessly with your [insert any pokemon here]

Battle Tower OHKOers and Exploders piss me off. -_- But their Wobbuffets could kill things so bad and they don't know how to use em.

The apparent discrepancies may not be real. I'd want to see a decent survey of player vs computer effects (it would mean logging hundreds of battles at least). Memory is a funny thing - you always remember the Horn Drill that stops your run, but may not remember the times it failled.

In regards to multiple copies of the same item... I'd just chalk that up to the random selection from the pool of available pokémon (whose item is as much a fixed thing as their move sets).
