    Default Ash's Pokemon Pattern.

I've discussed this with Zak... and if you notice, except for a few off cases, all of Ash's Pokemon are Loners or Leaders.

    Pikachu - Originally a loner...
    Pidgeotto - Loner turned leader.
    Caterpie - A loner
    Bulbasaur - A Leader
Squritle - Leader of the Squirtle Squad
    Charmander - Loner
    Primeape - Loner
    Krabby - Loner
    Snorlax - Loner
Lapras - Loner, not through choice.
Muk - Leader of the Grimers.
    Chikorita - Loner
    Totodile - Loner
    Cyndaquil - Loner
    Heracross - Loner...
    Noctowl - Odd Loner.
Tauros - Problem there... he's got a heard of them, though one could argue he has the leader of the Tauros battle.
Phanphy, Beedrill, Raticate and Larvitar - Problem there...

    SPOILERS

Treeko - Leader of the Warriors for the Treeko group...
    Corphish - Loner
    Toarkoal - Loner
    Tailow - Leader

So as you can see, Ash goes for the Loner or Leader Pokemon... However with Phanphy and Larvitar were from an Eggs, Beedrill and Raticate we didn't really know...

    Misty however...
    Poliwag - Loner
    Horsea - Loner
Corsola - Loner who was hated by its group.
    Psyduck - Loner.
But Goldeen, Togepi, Starmie and Staryu we can't really categorize... The waters for a lack of personality, Togepi for hatching.

Tracey caught a "Leader" Scyther.... whilst we don't know about Venonat nor Marril.

So what do you all think? Bit too much of a coincidence?

Wow, that's really interesting! Never thought of it that way, but you're right... Ash is always finding Loner pokemon, and often catches Leaders.

Nice theory but I think some of the Loner ideas are a little off.

Pidgeotto was just in the forest, for all we know it could have been (and probably was) hunting for food. Its nest could have been miles away, and it probably lived with a family.

The same applies with Caterpie, Krabby, Totodile (they inhabit lakes, it makes sense if they fished one out they'd only see one)...

I mean come on, Heracross had a whole HERD/FLOCK there! All the Heracross and all the Pinsir fought each other.

The forest in Good Quil Hunting was famous for CYNDAQUIL.....

Although some ideas are nice. With Phanpy, Beedrill, Raticate and Larvitar, he only kept them for a short time. They werent permeneant members of his team.

Phanpy, however, was probably the only phanpy egg there = LONER ^^

    My 2 cents.

Chris - Pidgeotto had repeated attempts at escaping, it could have easily flown home instead of looking for Metapod. Caterpie, Krabby and Totodile, we saw no evidence of any other Pokemon around at the time... And Heracross wasn't exactly part of the group of Heracrosses, it was kind of a loner, what with following Ash and all. But I think in the Cynda epi, they said this "Area" is notorious for having Cyndaquils, but we only saw one, poddling around alone.

Ha, never took the time to notice that. Ash either gets nerds or Student Council presidents, lol. Hey, why is Noctowl an ODD loner?

Wouldn't Larvitar also be considered somewhat of a 'loner'? I mean, it was lost and alone, and it didn't want to really interact with anything at the beginning. In my opinion, that's a loner.

Which would also make Togepi a bit of a loner too... And later on...

    *SPOILERS*

Is it just me or does Togepi/Togetic act a bit leaderish in AG considering it is the 'leader' of the Mirage Kingdom? Just a thought...

    *END SPOILERS*

Phanpy I consider something different, because it was given to him. It's not like he found it alone in the woods somewhere...

Meh, just my thoughts on the matter. It is rather interesting though...

But out of all of the Eggs that couple owned, I bet there was only one Phanpy Egg. They were of many various Pokemon.

Ash's Lapras wasn't a loner OR a leader, it was a member of a family, whom he returned it to eventually.

Snorlax was only a loner by default... they are incredibly rare to begin with; I'd say that, aside from its parent(s), no Snorlax knows of any other members of its species.

Charmander's background we know absolutely nothing about. He was formerly owned by another trainer who abandoned it. For all we know, he might have known other Charmander when he was wild.

By the way, Ash technically had a Haunter on his team for two episodes, and it didn't fall into either "group" either. It was "partners" with a Ghastly and Gengar (they might have even been brothers, come to think of it).

Lapras was A LONE on the beach, it wanted to be A LONE in the pokemon center and joined ash when he saved it. Then it went back to its group and became a LEADER.

Snorlax was alone, remember the epi with the Pokeflute, that dude said there were a heap in the area he wakes up perodically. The one in the orange isles was alone.

Charmander was abandoned and became a loner, he wanted revenge on daimen and joined ash after he was nice to him.

    Haunter wasn't "Caught"

But Lapras wasn't a loner by choice, she got seperated from her herd and wanted nothing more but to get back to them.

True, but it was still a loner. Plus when he tried to hook back up with the group, he was shunned, and only through Ash beating the pirates, is that he was taken back.
