Thread: EV training for these Pokémon?

Default EV training for these Pokémon?

I just caught a shiny Wobbuffet, and I want to EV train it, but how should I do it?
I was thinking of something like EVs in Defense, Special Defense and Speed, because it knows:

    - Mirror Coat
    - Counter
    - Safeguard
    - Destiny Bond

And because of that, it doesn't need EVs in Attack and Special Attack.
I've already found it's IVs, and want to EV train it.

I've also caught a shiny Tentacool (Now Tentacruel), a long time ago.
I want to EV train it too, so please help here

    Thanks in advance.

I would put 252 EVs in HP and distribute the rest equally to Defense and Sp.Defense.
Since Wobbuffets both Attacks are always going second and its speed is horrible low there is no reason to give it Speed EVs.

Wobbufet does not need Speed EVs. All the moves it can learn (which are only the ones that you have unless hatched) are based on protection. Mirror coat and Counter will always be last, so even if Speed still comes in handy for Safeguard and Destiny bond you should put more effort in it's Defences and HP. It needs to survive, you know. Guess why it's Pokedex classification is "Patient Pokemon"...

    Hehe yeah, you're right.
I'm gonna train it in HP, Sp Def. and Defense.

This might seem weird put i would put all the EVs in hp. Wobbuffet causes damage from mirror coat adn counter. both those attacks does double the damage wobbuffet takes. So by putting EVs in the defense catagories you are actually hindering the damage he can deal. By having huge amount of hp he will be able to take tons of hits and deal out more damage.

It's impossible to have a fully EV trained Pokémon with only HP EVs, as the total max is 510, but the max per stat is 255 (252 without wastage).
However, drizzt's right about the damage; if your defences are too high, you won't be able to deal much damage back. Speed is still useful for Safeguard and Destiny Bond, so I'd go with HP 252/SpDef 6/Spd 252.

If you want to minimise the defenses totally, why not go 255 HP 255 Speed?

Wobbuffet's potential lies in setting up other team members with Shadow Tag and Encore, not simply reflecting back attacks.

Go with a set of: Counter, Mirror Coat, Encore, and Safeguard, with all effort points in the defense stats. You want survivability with Wobbuffet, and the way to get the most out of it is to get the HP and defense stats as close to each other numerically as possible.

I can't get Encore on it, because it's shiny.

Oh. Well, it's still a good idea to use my aforementioned effort point arrangement; Wobbuffet can still Counter\Mirror Coat pretty effectively even if it is taking less damage, and higher survivability means that it does a better job of absorbing damage when using it for Perish\Toxic\Curse trapping or something like that.

So I should put a lot EVs in Defense and Special Defense? And maybe a bit in HP?

I vote for Wobby 252 HP and 129 in each defense catagory. Yes he will survive attacks + he'll have more HP to double back at them. It's what I gave to mine, and it's a pain in the @$$ for my friends.

What's Tentacruel's M/S? I would help out there, but I don't know what you've given him to work with...

No, Tentacreul's Attack is low, don't give it Sludge Bomb.

HP and SpDef are good, defense is a bit low tho.
Overall, pretty reasonable, more than useable.
