    I'm severely p.o'ed...

I tackled the Pokemon Contests, and following a Contest Guide I found on another forum, I raised a Dodrio with this moveset:

    Peck
    Drill Peck
    Hyper Beam
    Fury Attack (never used)

I also raised its coolness and smartness to the max, meaning I got the Red Scarf and (after seeing him again) the Green Scarf off the man at Slateport Fan Club. I was pretty chuffed.

The Lilycove contest didn't go as planned, and although I won, I only earned 6 hearts (but 7 stars) at the end. I won, but did not get my portrait painted.

So, I decided, I should just try again. I was allowed to enter again and this time breezed through the contest, getting 8/10 hearts at the end, and 7/10 stars. I won a Luxury Ball this time, but...no painting!

I'm under the impression you must only be able to get a portrait done if you win the Ribbon and Command total attention on the first attempt.

    Now, I have to raise another Dodrio (from Doduo so it learns DP earlier). All I can say is D A M N I T T ! ! ! !

I think that you should try the contest again and again until you see the guy tht paints your PoKeMoN's picture talking to you and he'll paint a picture of your pokemon.

Did you go to the Museume in Lilycove City because if you haven't then maybe thats why you haven't gotten a picture of your Dodrio.

Make absolutely sure that you have talked to the guy in the museum. My Aggron barely won the cool contest and he has a painting in the museum on my first win. I don't think it has something to do with what happened during the contest.

    I found out why x_x

When you go to Lilycove Museum, you have to talk to the Curator before getting access to the upper floor. I had done that the first time I played, but you forget these things, don't you? So all that for nothing!

I guess if I simply enter the Master Rank it'll be able to get a portrait, though, so that should be ok.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Yep, that'd be it. You definitely would have gotten your picture painted if you'd talked to the guy, and you can definitely get it painted by winning the contest a second time (I've done this a few times).

Yea, at least I can get Luxury Balls, cos they're a really cool design, and I wasted mine from the Abandoned Ship trying to catch a Corsola and failing.

If you want all the portraits, I suggest an Azurill with Attract, Water Gun Charm, and Tail Whip for the Cute contest.

I've recently been playing with a Duskull with Mean Look and Destiny Bond.

That 16 heart finish goes a long way to making up ground (but she hasn't done well enough to get her picture painted yet. I have hopes for an eventual 22 heart "crowd goes wild" in the Smart contest though...).

You need to breed for any of the 16 heart combos, but boy is it satisfying!

I'm wondering something about this: I won the Cute contest with my Delcatty (awfully cute if you ask me), but yet I got no painting. YES I have spoken to the museum guy, YES I did really win, check my ribbons so I wonder if you have to win in a special way (I barely made it)?

Well, I've never tried the contests, but what I've heard is you need a certain number of stars...not hearts, stars.

Ok, since we have no real contest guide I'll kinda help you all out here.

    Contest Guide

How do I get my Pokemon Painted in the Museum?
You need to beat all four ranks of Pokemon Contest with the same Pokemon. However, in the Master Rank, your Pokemon must have 8+ hearts OR stars at the end.

The stars are the primary judging, and you can raise the primary score by feeding your Pokemon Pokeblocks. You can also attach a coloured scarf to your Pokemon to boost its beauty/coolness/cuteness/toughness/smartness. This is done by going to the Slateport City Pokemon Fan Club, and talking to the elderly man on the sofa. He will give you a scarf IF your Pokemon has a maxed attribute.

Red Scarf - must have maxed COOL
Blue Scarf - must have maxed BEAUTY
Green Scarf - must have maxed SMART
Yellow scarf - must have maxed TOUGH
Pink scarf - must have maxed CUTE

Now, to max a Pokemon's attribute for contests, you must feed it the very best berries. There is a list below telling you what berries you should make into Pokeblocks to give to your Pokemon for a specific contest, as well as where to blend them:

    Cool- Purple Pokeblocks -Tamato/Qualot/Pomeg/Figy/Leppa (LILYCOVE)
    Tough- Olive Pokeblocks -Nomel/Iapapa (LILYCOVE)
    Cute- Brown Pokeblocks -Magost/Grepa/Mago (LILYCOVE)
    Smart- Liteblue Pokeblocks -Rabuta/Aguav (LILYCOVE)
    Beauty- Indigo Pokeblocks -Cornn/Hondew/Kelpsy/Wiki (LILYCOVE)

These can be obtained from the Berry Master, who will give you two berries every day, as well as from Kiri, a girl in Sootopolis City who gives you two berries a day.

This list also tells you what colour Pokeblock raises what:

    Indigo raises Cute & Beauty.
    Brown raises Smart & Cute.
    Purple raises Cool & Smart.
    LiteBlue raises Tough & Smart.
    Olive raises Cool & Tough.
    Gold raises Tough & Beauty.
Gray raises Cool, Tough, & Cute.
    Black raises Smart,Tough, & Cool.

Also, it is recomended giving these sayings to the Berry Master's Wife to recieve one-shot berries. These will have a higher level and a lower feel (signs of a good berry) and will raise a stat very much.

    SUPER HUSTLE - Belue Berry
    GREAT BATTLE
    OVERWHELMING LATIAS
    CHALLANGE CONTEST - Pamtre Berry
    CUTE LATIAS - Watmel Berry

I can't remember what you get....I'm sure you can get Watmel from Great Battle, can anyone confirm this?^^

Once you get these berries, PLANT THEM! you will never get them again. Water them by the hour to ensure you get a decent yield.

Ok, so you've blended plenty of Pokeblocks, but who do you use them on? Below is the list of Pokemon I am using for each contest.

    Cool
    Dodrio @Red Scarf
    Peck
    Drill Peck
    Hyper Beam
    (doesn't matter)
Purple Pokeblocks needed. Must be an Adament/Naughty/Brave Nature

    Beauty
    Spheal/Sealeo/Walrein @Blue Scarf
    Powder Snow
    Blizzard
    Surf
    Dive
Indigo Pokeblocks needed. Must be Modest/Mild/Rash Nature

    Cute
    Pelipper @Pink Scarf
    Water Sport
    Water Gun
    (doesn't matter)
    (doesn't matter)
Brown Pokeblocks needed. Use same nature(s) as Sealeo ^

    Smart
    Castform @Green Scarf
    Rain Dance
    Weather Ball
    (doesn't matter)
    (doesn't matter)
Liteblue Pokeblocks needed. Use Timid/Hasty/Jolly/Naieve Nature

    Tough
    Regirock/ice/steel @Yellow Scarf
    Curse
    Superpower
    Explosion
    (doesn't matter)
Olive Pokeblocks needed. SHOULD have Gentle/Careful

Another tip. If you want the Primary Judging to go exceedingly well, max out the primary and secondary attributes:

    Primary Attribute - Secondary Attribute
    cool - Tough and Beauty
    beauty - Cool and Cute
    cute - Beauty and Smart
    smart - Tough and Cute
    tough - Smart and Cool

So for Dodrio, I would max out coolness and toughness/beauty. I would also make sure not to use cute/smart moves in a Cool Contest, as these drop the crowd's excitement.

Ok, so you've harvested many Pokeblocks. You've raised 5 Pokemon with movesets God himself would envy. You've maxed out Primary and Secondary factors for the Pokemon Contest.....now what?

    Now you enter!

If you've got any more queries on the contests don't hesitate to ask me. We'll make this the official Contest Thread!

Thanks to all the people at Serebii.net for some of these suggestions

Saying CHALLENGE CONTEST gets you the Pamtre Berry, which can make Indigo or Gold Pokéblocks of impressive level in Lilycove. A Pamtre Gold is much better than Indigo for raising Beauty, but they don't help as much in contests because Cute is a secondary type and Tough isn't. If you only want Beauty for evolving Feebas, Gold is definitely the way to go.

Note: CUTE LATIAS gives you the Watmel berry, and it only works after you have seen/catpured Latias.

    Also:

Mega Uber moveset for Tough Contest:

    Aggron
    Relaxed nature

    Harden
    Take Down
    Metal Sound
    Metal Claw

All you need is Harden and Take Down, and pray you don't get jammed. >.> This moveset got my Aggron's portrait in the Museum on my first try, she mutilated the competition.

    Smart:

    Banette
    Careful nature

    Curse
    Spite
    Destiny Bond
    Whatever

Curse combos with both Spite and Destiny Bond extremely well. This set also works well in Tough contests.

If you have access to the Liechi Berry or the pinch berries you can get from Colosseum (Ganlon, Petaya, Apicot, Salac), those severely break the contest competition. For fun, I tried to get all 26 available ribbons onto a Flygon from Colosseum (which comes with its own special ribbon), and discovered that after I fed it Pokeblocks made with these berries, it had massive star counts in every category. I didn't even have to try very hard at all in the appeals - its star count won it every single contest the first time it applied!

Yes. OVERWHELMING LATIAS, and then one involving LATIOS. I suppose it might be CUTE LATIOS, I don't remember. I remember OVERWHELMING goes with LATIAS, though, because it's funny; just looking at the two, it's clear that LATIOS should have been the more overwhelming one.

It's COOL LATIOS if I remember right.

A few corrections about what blocks raise what conditions.

Gold pokéblocks are merely any with a level greater than 50. You should check them to see *what* conditions they raise.

Grey pokéblocks are any with three flavours.

    Red = Spicy only
    Blue = Dry only
    Pink = Sweet only
    Green = Bitter only
    Yellow = Sour only

Purple = Strong Spicy plus one other flavour
Indigo = Strong Dry plus one other flavour
Brown = Strong Sweet plus one other flavour (chocolate...)
Liteblue = Strong Bitter plus one other flavour
Olive = Strong Sour plus one other flavour

What you get depends on the mix. Most lists seem to only include the Lilycove mixes, but you can get Grey blocks by using the Slateport public blender with Pomeg, Kelpsy, Qualot, Hondew or Grepa.

Did you make Pokeblocks with three other people linking your GBAs together using Ganlon, Petaya, Apicot and Salac or did you make Pokeblocks in Lylicove with the three computer players?

    The thing that annoys me...

My Milotic wore a Blue scarf, yet it got barely any stars in the contest. Well, It must have had 6/7 stars.

Now then, Feebas needs max beauty to evolve, so I made sure to give it a nature that likes beauty Pokeblocks (is it dry? Yea, I think so).

    So...whats with that?

I've got another problem. I keep winning Contests, maxing the contest stat, and giving the right scarves. So why can't I get a painting? It never works (except for Gardevoir and Regirock).

You have max Beauty, but did you give it any Cute or Cool points? The "secondary" conditions also count toward total condition. Maxed out condition for a Beauty contest needs maxed out Beauty, Cute and Cool.

Difficult (impossible?) to arrange with only in-game blenders. Some useful possibilities, though:

Palmtre at Verdanturf or Fallarbour produces Dry + Sweet Indigo blocks,
with a level around 50 and feel of 45.

Leichi at Lilycove produces Spicy/Sweet Gold blocks with a level around 60 and feel 34.

Watmel at Lilycove produces Sweet + Spicy Brown blocks with a level around 50 and a feel of 32.

Ideally you would want Gold blocks with Dry + Sweet and Dry + Spicy or a Grey block with Dry/Sweet/Spicy.

Ahhh right. Leichi is a rare one, right? I'm thinking so, because I've never had one in my game before. I cant blend berries with friends, either, as none of my freinds play Pokemon. Darn...

Yep, Liechi berries are very rare. The only way to get them in-game is if you are lucky enough to get to Mirage Island, or through Nintendo promotions. A couple of moths ago, a chain of video game stores called "GameStop" were having promos where people could bring their Ruby/Sapphire games in to the store, and get the berry glitch fixed in their Ruby/Sapphire games, and obtain a shiny Zigzagoon that was holding a Liechi Berry. Unfortunately, Liechi Berries are not available on Pokémon Colosseum.

With the Colosseum berries at Lilycove I've managed to get three-flavor (Grey) Pokeblocks with a level of 62 (sometimes it was 60 or 61 if I messed up on the Berry Blender) and a feel of 34. I made two Pokeblocks for each berry, fed them to my Flygon, and subsequently won every contest without losing once.
