    Default Commercial for the games

    For those of you who live in America, you may have seen the commercial for the upcoming releases of Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green during the regular airing of the weekday shows. There were some interesting scenes shown, including a special, colorized battle. I'm not sure if that's an inclusion in the actual gameplay or simply the a part of the opening scene, but it was well-done either way.

    But that's not really what I'm posting about. At the very beginning of the commercial, they show the words to a popular theme - Team Rocket's theme. You know, with the whole "To protect the world from devastation" stuff?

    Could this theme be a hint as to a twist in the new games? Perhaps it's not as much of a remake as we thought...

    Default Ticket for getting to Island 8

    I have just read some information (on www.filb.de) that the ticket for getting to Island 8 is/was available at Pokémon Festa in Fukuoka in Japan.
    You could download it using the Wireless Adapter at the Festa.

    So, it looks like this may be only available in the NYC Pokemon Center I am afraid.

    The detailed info can be found here
    This site is in german.

    Okay, since Snowfreq's thread was cut off, I'm re-posting this here...really, if you're going to force a single thread on a topic, how hard is it to put the discussions that have already happened into that thread so that the single thread is actually useful?

    FOUND IN FIRE RED---FOUND IN LEAF GREEN
    Ekans---Sandshrew
    Oddish---Bellsprout
    Growlithe---Vulpix
    Scyther---Pinsir
    Electabuzz---Magmar
    Psyduck---Slowpoke
    Shellder---Staryu
    Wooper---Marill
    Qwilfish---Remoraid
    Delibird---Sneasel
    Skarmory---Mantine
    Murkrow---Misdreavus

    Because once the 5,000 threads on the subject are merged, the posts are out of whack and fail to make any cohesive sense. Tried it with Pokemon Box, and it wasn't pretty.

    And speaking of Snowfreq, how hard was it for him to look for the Emerald Thread (which, as you see, is untouched) or just look for this thread (WHICH IS AT THE TOP) before posting?

    Dude, in Red you could get both Shellder and Staryu in them... so why can't you get them in Fire Red?

    I am also not impressed with this game. I am not buying a colourful upgrade of a game I already own. No matter how many useless new features are added.

    I also feel the same way about Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green but it's the Kanto Pokemon I really need. The only other way to complete the National Pokedex without buying any extra Pokemon games is to get a Cheat Device.

    You really are an idiot...

    Gameplay is different because of new moves learned at new levels.
    Some new types(Magnemite/ton, Bite is Dark) make things alot different.
    Some GSC Pokemon.
    8 New areas to go to.
    RS TM list makes some gym leaders(Misty with Water Pulse, Brock with Rock Tomb) MUCH harder for certain types.

    Changes to gameplay, new areas, and GSC Pokemon? Pssh. Who needs THAT? :rolleeyes:

    Who knows, but it just might be the advertising they're making... a twist would be interesting though... but I reall don't think so, many people have played already and there was nothing rather new or strange.

    Hmm, well, I'm actually thinking on buying it, not only to complete the NationalDex and getting some sweet movesets, but it also brings so many great memories back, and it's just great that I get to replay the game that made me an absolute fan... I mean, it's almost 8 years now, and I haven't dropped my interest even a bit (if my left wrist hadn't begun to really hurt this summer :s, I hate Carpian's Tunnel Syndrome :p ...). It's a whole new gameplay, and even though I really suck at it, (was it just me that wasn't ready or that moronic kyogre in colosseum was tough?) I've eventually learned it, and it's quite different and more challenging than the first one. Besides graphical improvement, new pkmn, new areas, features, I think it's worth buying... I mean, I don't think they can do something worse than colosseum, and to be honest, they won't make anything better than GSC...*coughcolosseumWASawasteofmoneycough* but then again, who knows?

    c ya.

    EDIT: BTW, any news on the high level elite4???

    The Islands' names have been released.
    Knot, Boon, Kin, Floe, Chrono, Fortune and Quest Island.

    Chrono is a reference to time, is it not? And theres that weird stone. Access to Celebi or cruel trick to make people search for hours on end?

    It's not nice to steal an other person's work and not give them credit.

    I think Chrono Island will do nothing because they just want you to go on a wild goose chase like in Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire for Deoxys.

    I'm pretty sure Floe Island is a reference to an Ice Floe, since theres a cave full of Ice Pokemon.

    Knot: A Knot of Islands?
    Boon:It means blessing. In the North of the Island your Starter can learn a strong attack.
    Kin: Kin means relation, family. There you must free the girl.
    Floe: Like cloudizme said
    Chrono: It takes you a lot of time trough the Rocket HQ?
    Fortune: Here you can find the Sapphire Plate
    Quest: You must quest the Unowns and catch them all.

    Is it me or is FR/LG supposed to not only introduce newbies, but to shut up vets until Emerald is released? Ah, who cares. Getting one of them 'cause I'm getting a bit bored of constantly starting files on Sapphire.

    Mister_Gadget: I'm not sure, but 'Knot' could possible refer to speed in water, but I forget if anything fast happens/is found on that island.

    The Box Trick has been taken out of the Advanced Games because you don't need to save as you access the PC to move Pokemon about and stuff.

    Hmm...Fire Red and Leaf Green DO look tempting. I'd probably get Green - I think that is the one with Misdreavus and Sneasel in. But then FR has Growlithe and Shellder, as well as Electabuzz. They've really teased me...all my faves are split between the versions! However, if you look, I noticed something interesting:

    Pokemon available in fire red:
    Ekans --> Arbok
    Oddish --> Gloom --> Vileplume --> Bellossom
    Psyduck --> Golduck
    Growlithe --> Arcanine
    Shellder --> Cloyster
    Elekid --> Electabuzz
    Scyther --> Scizor
    Wooper --> Quagsire
    Murkrow
    Qwilfish
    Delibird
    Skarmory

    Out of those 22 Pokemon, 7 can be obtained in Ruby/Sapphire.

    Pokemon available in Leaf Green:
    Sandshrew --> Sandslash
    Vulpix --> Ninetales
    Bellsprout --> Weepinbell - Victreebel
    Slowpoke --> Slowbro --> Slowking
    Staryu --> Starmie
    Magby --> Magmar
    Pinsir
    Azurill --> Marill --> Azumarill
    Misdreavus
    Sneasel
    Remoraid --> Octillery
    Mantine

    Out of these 23 Pokemon, however, a 'staggering' 10 are available in Ruby/Sapphire.

    So really, if you get FR -OR- LG, and want one, I'd reccomend Fire Red, as you can fill your Pokedex up that little bit more.

    I think I may buy one...but I'm not sure. I wanted Sapphire as I was unfamilliar with the new Pokemon and wanted to see what they were like...and now I'm hooked :-/

    So I think, in the end, I'll probably buy Fire Red, if I buy one at all. I'll tell my friend's I won it in a competition :-/

    That's too bad, because I was hoping to make the pokemon as strong as they can the easy way.

    You mean the other Box Trick? No that doesn't exsist either because you can't get anymore EVs at Level 100. For a Maximum Stat you'll need 31 IVs in it, 252 EVs in it and a Nature that boosts it.

    Oh God I can't wait! TWO MORE WEEKS!!!

    The bad thing as BritChris said is the pkmn split... I'd love to get a growlithe and slowpoke, but they're in different versions :-(

    and I'll prolly end up with GL, since my brother want's RF deoxys... it's good, but almost anything can bring it down

    That split may look bad for LG,but it has Pinsir,Magmar,Mantine,Misdrevous,and Octillery. All very cool pokemon and they add variety.

    Deoxys is an Uber and Ubers are cheap so you should ban them for Battles since it'll probably be banned in most Pokemon Tournaments. On a side note look at its Defences they have only a 20 Base so they should be easy to take down with a Super Effective attack or something.

    Yep, they are pretty good... I really wouldn't mind the version, the only thing is that some favorites of mine will be in different versions, to be more exact, growlithe...

    I know, we know about that but he just wants it, don't ask me why though... not only super effective hits can bring it down... even a tackling magikarp would deal a lot of damage

    If you are still don't know which version (FR or LG) you want to buy, I have found an interesting difference in the Game Corner Prices in Celadon:

    In the middle counter you can get a Pokemon for Game Coins:

    Leaf Green:

    Abra-120 Game Coins
    Clefairy-750 Game Coins
    Pinsir-2500 Game Coins
    Dratini-4600 Game Coins
    Porygon-6500 Game Coins

    Fire Red:

    Abra-120 Game Coins
    Clefairy-500 Game Coins
    Dratini-2800 Game Coins
    Scyther-5500 Game Coins
    Porygon-9999 Game Coins

    It is interesting that you can get a Porygon much cheaper in LG than in FR.
    I have played the Japanese version of FR and wanted a Scyther and a Porygon. When I first got to Celadon it costed me all my money to get the Scyther. But I wanted one desperately because of Flase Swipe. It makes catching Pokemon much easier.
    Later after the E4 I had enough money to buy me a Porygon.

    yay! that means I can get a dratini early on... one question, does the game corner have the option to buy 500 at once? or is it the old you-get-only-50?

    Well, tomorrow's the official date of release... what are your thoughts??? I'm very excited it's here after like a year of waiting. I first heard of FR/GL coming out exactly a year ago, and we'll finally have it tomorrow. (weekend for me)
