Default EV Training (Among a few other things)

I have a basic idea of what EV Training is and how to do it, but I need to know a couple of things.

    1) Can I EV train with a poke that is at lv 100 already?
    2) If so... how can I see the stats improve?
    3) What do EVs have to do with IVS?
    4) How do I figure out IV's?

If someone can give me an idea to get the best stats for my pokes and all that stuff by explaining IV's, Natures, EV's and anything else.
THANKS, AND MAYBE THIS COULD HELP OTHERS AS WELL

    1) Yes. You can know for sure if you visit the girl in the marketplace in Slateport City next to the man who sells vitamins. If she gives you an effort ribbon, ya can't EV train. If she doesn't, ya can.
    2) Do the box trick. I think it still works in RuSa. Deposit your pokemon, and withdraw it.
    3) Well, EV's and IV's are separate, I think. EV's are the values/points from the battles you fight in-game that improves your stats. IV's are concrete, determined from when you first encounter your pokemon, and determine how high your low your stats are... but I'm probably sure you know all that already. How they're related? They're just the stats system in Pokemon. I don't know. :p
    4) I'm trying to figure out myself. There's this formula on serebii.net, but I'm getting lost on that...

You can go to Meowth346's site and go to his IV calculator. But you have to know how many EV's your pokemon has.

And if you didn't know already, you can only get 510 total EV's. 255 max per stat. Everyone usually does 252/252/6, since every 4 EV's is 1 pt.

    1) Can I EV train with a poke that is at lv 100 already?
Yes and no. Vitamins will still work, but you won't be able to get EP from defeating enemy pokémon. The problem with this is that vitamins cannot raise an EV higher than 100, so if you haven't finished EV-training by level 100 you're probably screwed.
    2) If so... how can I see the stats improve?
Well, the "Box trick" (depositing a pokémon in the PC and then withdrawing it again to reset its stats) will certainly give you the improved stats, but I have a feeling Ruby/Sapphire updates the stats immediately, so if I'm right you may not need the Box Trick.
    3) What do EVs have to do with IVS?
Absolutely nothing. EVs represent training, IVs represent natural talent.
    4) How do I figure out IV's?
There are five things that affect stats. Species, current level, nature, IVs and EVs. So if you know your EVs exactly, you can calculate your IVs within a certain range. The trick is finding the formula...though someone (I forget who) made an Excel spreadsheet that does the calculating for you. You do need to know your IVs, though, so it's easiest to do this when a pokémon hasn't battled, hasn't held an Exp.Share and hasn't taken any vitamins.

    Really? I see...

I found the supposed "formula" at a website:

    ((Math.Ceiling(Stat/Personality Value) - 5) * 100 / Level Value) - 2 * Base Stat – Math.Floor(EV's / 4)

Math.Ceiling, I have no clue what it means - the site says to round up. .Floor is to round down.

    ....
As long as your Pokemon is less than level 100 the "Box Trick" works in R/S and you need to use it to see the stat improvements when you are battling wild pokemon to get EVs when you don't want your Pokemon to grow one level.
I know because I trained EVs for my level 50 Metagross which I snagged in Colosseum. I wanted to use it with other level 50 Pokemon in Mt.Battle to get Ho-oh and it should stay at level 50.
So, after I battled several Attack EP giving Pokemon I saw the Attack stat increase only after I put it into a Box.

Math.Ceiling is like rounding up, but not the same. Where in rounding up you would go to 8 if you had a number like 7.5 and go down to 7 if you had 7.4, You would always go up to 8 if you had a 7.x (x meaning any value at all). Math.Floor is just the opposite. 7.x will always be 7 (Math.Floor of 7.9999999 would be 7).
