Well, 56k is 56 kilobits per second... DSL and cable range from 128 kilobits per second to up to 6 megabits per second or higher. So it depends on what cable/dsl service you choose. Anyway, DSL or cable doesn't really matter, get whatever's the better deal at an acceptable speed for you from a good company.
