[Name]
Lirael Huron
[Code Name]
Scout
[Age]
Twenty
[Gender]
Female
[Power]
Lirael can meditate to receive a mental picture of the surrounding area for up to half a kilometer, less clear as the area grows larger, or can even leave her body entirely to scout in an ethereal form. She can find the world location of anyone in her memory or by a picture of a person if their will does not block her scouting, and when entering a new area she instantaneously knows exactly where she is in relation to the world's longitude and latitude. Scout is a human global positioning system and has amazing perception to boot. Even out of spirit form she has the ability to fly to an extent, though if she goes too far it will tire her as ground travel would, and when in the air can see for miles like an eagle. Her other senses are just as acute as she can use smell and sound to find her way around in a dark room, or can immediatly taste if something is poisoned or feel what something is made from by touch. Her increased perception gives her the slightest precognition where she can see two minutes into the future of the area she is in, and can see paint a mental image of things out of her line of vision, giving her an exponential reflex (think The Matrix) and the ability to get the team out of harm's way if an unblockable danger is coming. Seeing more than thirty seconds into the future requires her to actually concentrate first quickly, and she can only see the future in a confined area of about a mile at most but it becomes foggy as it gets this large. Scout's acute senses to not cause her to be bothered by extreme sound or mental imagery as you would think. She can camoflauge herself also, projecting her mental imagery of the environment onto her body to make it seem like she's part of it, essentially invisible except a slight shimmer in the air if moving fast. If forced to use her power repeatedly she tends to get bad headaches that hinder her concentration and if focused on something it becomes harder for her to reflexively dodge things that she is not concentrating on directly.
[Mutant]
Definitely.
[Appearance]
Scout is thin and hides her lean muscle well on her six foot high build with a pale, clear complexion. Her obsidian hair is kept down and falls about to her shoulders with long bangs that fall over her right piercing hazel eye in a seductive way. Her crimson lips carry the slightest smirk, but are often showing a mouth full of brillant white teeth in a beautiful smile that sharpens her ironically regal nose and chin. She gives off quite the air of grace and ambidexterity. She's seldom seen without her uniform, but if necessary she'll wear plain white clothes and black jeans appropriate to the weather.
[Personality]
Lirael's perception of the world isn't limited to just physical objects, but her mental accuracy and ability is something else to be heralded. She has a vast knowledge of geography, weapons, and many other fields and is known to pick up how to use something on the spot. Scout's mind is keen and with a high potential, she can be clever and sly and has quite the wisdom beneath that warm laugh and happy disposition. She isn't much of a talker, but is always there to cheer others up. Scout's a very self-directed person towards improving herself and is also extremely self-dependent. She deal with her own problems and does not share them with others unless asked, making her a little closed, but she obviously does this well due to her outward display of joy. Lirael is calm in all situations and serves as a mediator in disputes, and usually knows the right course of action. She's a creative thinker and even a little quirky at times, and though she does have a calm attitude, her moods can be unpredictable and her voice has just the slightest sinister undertone. She's naturally charismatic which makes for a decent ability to lead, but she can also be seductive if necessary.
[Attributes]
Strongly educated in the uses of weaponry due to her family's mercenary heritage, and an amazing unarmed fighter employing a number of styles from karate to grappling. Having no real offensive mutant ability, she usually has a sai hilted on her uniform's belt to dispense or reluctant or homicidal baddies, otherwise choosing to bludgeon them out of consciousness. Scout is quite the silent one, with her increased perception and reflective camoflauge comes the ability to be extremely stealthy when need be, and is often chosen to get to those hard to reach places.
[Relationships]
She isn't in any as of now, but she's open to someone that has her own witty personality. She has no idea what happened to her birth parents, and hardly cares, but desires to find her nursemaid who should only be about fifty.
[Uniform]
Scout's uniform is simply a skintight black catsuit as a thief might wear, with a belt around her waist to carry her unsheathed sai and with a miniscule "X" buckle in dark gray.
[History]
She was raised in a family of assassins and thieves that had recently moved to communist China illegally to operate where there was a large market for "shady dealings" and it was here that Lirael was born. Her parents weren't exactly a positive influence on her, so Lirael was raised by her nursemaid which instilled some more positive ideas in her. At the age of five, however, her father saw her potential as an assassin and thief and traded her as if she was an object to one of his business partners. In her new home she was given little generosity, but clung to the ideas of her nursemaid which kept her from turning to a life of thievery and murder as her parents had, and received daily lessons in unarmed combat and sai combat. China being the original country where the Sai was birthed as well as various hand-to-hand fighting styles, and her father's vast fortune, it was easy for her to get the best training. Her mutant power first manifested simply in her amazing agility, her guardians having to continually get a new trainer because she already exhausted the knowledge of the latest one, until there simply weren't any more. Though not truly skilled yet in the styles, she knew enough and with the help of her ever-growing intellect was able to fill in the gaps and become quite the thief and assassin. She was twelve.
Her prodigal ability and her all-too-keen senses got her noticed by two wealthy thieves who purchased her again from her guardians for a great sum, and set her to work toppling the government of China one assassination at a time. Just before the launching of a likely successful first mission, her new guardians were discovered by the local police force and soon they had a myriad of different law agencies on their tail. Forced to flee with them, her and her guardians traveled to the United States as fugitives and took on new identities as illegal aliens.
Lately, in secret, Lirael had been becoming more attuned to the power within her and had discovered her ability to fly. She often went on midnight romps during this time, testing the limits of her flight and silently entering her room again in her reflective camoflauge. It wasn't until a certain episode, though, that she really discovered her power's potential.
For six years her guardians operated from the United States, smuggling and using her to steal priceless artifacts, but they were forced to deliver some goods that they hadn't wished to. Lirael's precognition first manifested during this, on the small plane with her guardians she saw the missiles coming two minutes before due to her sleeping at the time, effectively concentrating. She woke to a start and tryed to wake her guardians to land or something but they refused to listen, thinking her crazy and pushing her back into the cargo hold where she had been seated. She regrets not be able to save them to this day (her two male guardians would have weighed her down too much to fly) but she was forced to open the door and jump from the plane just as the missiles appeared on the radar.
Using her power she managed a safe landing, but she had stranded herself in the Altay Mountains North of Beijing. Here she first discovered her power to sense her location, as she immediatly knew she was in these mountains and how far she was from Beijing even though she had never been there. Unsure of where to go, she found herself wishing she knew which direction Beijing was, cold and hungry. She closed her eyes and wished this, and upon doing so discovered she could leave her body in spirit form. Lirael soon took hold of this form's power, and scouted about her surroundings, finding there was a road leading straight to Beijing some twenty miles Southeast. She left her mentally entranced state and proceeded to turn in the straightest possible line to that point, cloaked herself, and then flew at a startling speed of sixty miles per hour to reach the road. She was tired, but feared getting a ride from hitchhikers, so she slowly made her way to Beijing over a period of days. Flying on and off and resting and stealing to maintain her strength. During this trip she made the mistake of stealing from a mutant of the academy on a reconaissance mission, ironic because she would become the best agent of that type on her admission, and the mutant promptly drove her to Beijing and set her on a plane to meet with Xavier and to gain entrance into the academy.
She hasn't been formally taught, but was effectively homeschooled, and so her teachings consist of mostly just learning more about her powers with help of Xavier and other mutants. May 20th is the two year anniversary of her admission to the academy. By now, she's a bit more of a senior member than the other mutants of her team, giving her a larger reign over them. She prefers to be called Scout at all times now as an effective way to prevent herself from reminiscing too much on the past.
[Other]
She tends to drink tea with lemon, and has a small obsessive-compulsive problem with symmetry. An aggressive environmentalist and anticonsumerist (though not fanatical), Scout often makes polite comments if someone is wasting resources or buying unnecessary things, her having an infinitesimal number of possessions compared to most. A persistent quirk, Scout is also a slight hypochondriac.
=Scout=
The snowman trick was cheap. Iceman certainly could do better than that, or at least that was my guess of who he was. I had all the mutant profiles down, photographic memories do wonders like that. It was valuable to learn them when you've just transferred here from the East "precinct" of Professor Xavier's academy. It wasn't quite as large as this, but the old wiseman had realized it was difficult finding all those mutants in foreign countries. That would be where we came in, commonly called the reconaissance branch.
I was impressed of the academy, to say the least, and the new students coming in looked promising. I thought about promptly introducing myself to Iceman, but he covorted down to the basement before I got the chance, I was late anyway. Oh well, I'd break the ice somewhere else. They were all my colleagues anyway, might as well get used to all these "recruits."
With a warm smile I offered my hand to the nearest young woman as we walked; hair not unlike my own and a distant look were interesting. That far-off outlook might give the promise of a keen mind, or maybe she was just quiet.
As my hand neared her's I found myself tapping it a little before she responded, her eyes weren't on my face but just to the left of me with a vapid gaze. Her head was tilted in curiosity and I resisted looking over to see just what was so interesting about my shoulder. As I forcibly shook her hand she came back a little and returned my warm smile, "Nice to meet you, Scout." The smile quickly evaporated into a straight, prim line, and she returned cooly, "Katie Leigh, glad to meet you also. Is Scout your real name?"
I disliked when people asked that, it made me remember what I had been... I kept my composure and hastily smothered her with an overbearing smile and, "No, I just prefer that, thank you."
This time I found myself looking over to her left, as we both had just missed part of the quips between Iceman, Rick, and Hank, or more accurately beast. Katie showed a slight start at Hank's odd form, but I didn't really care. My attention was focused on Aidan, who had just dropped a small piece of paper she pulled from her pocket. Next to Hank's desk there was a recycling bin, and just as she unclasped her hand to drop it I dove.
In a scene reminiscent of the slow motion movies where people drop valuable objects I had darted under the paper yelling, "No!" and scooped it up, transferring it to the recycling bin. I gave a sigh of relief and turned to a group full of apalled expressions. Iceman raised an eyebrow, and I attempted a save. "Hello everyone," I smiled through the awkwardness, "Scout." Nice Lirael, I scolded myself in my old name just to let my overactive environmentalist attitude problem sink in. Smooth, Lirael. Smooth.
I couldn't take it, and before anyone else did, I reeled and laughed at my own slow motion performance. My snorting chortle did not do much to pierce the silence.
