Florence
I awoke with a headache, and a sharp pain in my back. "Ungh..." I moaned, reaching up and rubbing my pounding head. "What the heck happened?" I thought groggily, trying to push myself up.
When I touched the ground, I stopped. "I'm on the ground," I thought. "Why am I on the ground? And why is there no carpet?" It was true; the ground felt cold and hard beneath me. "Marble?" I thought as I felt how smooth the ground was. As I felt around, my hands brushed against something metal...
Slowly, I opened my eyes. When they finally focused, I was staring at a very colorful ceiling. I rolled his head left and right, and noticed some other people were lying on the floor, too. "And with strange outfits, too," I thought.
The pain in my back began to bother me, so I pushed myself up into a sitting position. "Whoa," I said, my body beginning to tilt back towards the ground. Something was weighing me down a little on my back. Instinctively, I reached back and felt... wait, that couldn't be right...
With my other hand, I reached over my head, and felt the hilt of a sword. "You've got to be kidding me," I thought. Looking on the ground to my right, I saw what it was I felt earlier when I'd first woke up. Two beautifully forged swords were lying parallel to each other on the ground. I looked down at his waist, thinking perhaps this dream had given me a sheath or two to hold the swords...
"Whoa."
I finally noticed how red I had become. I had a blood-red steel plate covering my upper torso and arms. I was wearing a pair of long, brown and tough-looking pants and boots. My legs didn't feel leather pressed against them, though; I figured I probably had another pair of pants underneath them.
Checking beneath the steel plates, I found chainmail. "Hey, wait a minute..." I thought, pausing. My mind finally clicked. "This is the same outfit I created for my rpg character!" Sure enough, an orange vest was hidden beneath a leather long-sleeve shirt which was underneath the chainmail. "That means... man, this is gonna be weird..." My hand shook as I reached up and pulled my now-long hair in front of my eyes.
"Blue..." I smiled. "I have long, blue hair..." I couldn't tell, but I was sure that my eyes were probably green, too. "Total awesomeness..." I finally realized that I was no longer Alex; I had become the character I'd created known as Florence Hayra.
I stood up from the hard ground and stretched my back. I noticed that my body had grown a lot; for one, I actually had muscles. I bent down, picked up the two swords, and placed them neatly in their sheaths. I noticed that nobody else had awoken just yet, so I decided to explore a little... not that there was anything to explore, considering the room looked pretty bare besides the sleeping others.
I walked over to a wall (I would have gone to a corner, but the room was spherical, thus, no corner,) and sat. Soon after, a few of the others began waking up. I was pretty eager to find out just what was going on. Something kept nagging at me; these were all different types of characters. Was I going to have to fight them? I'd taken a few weeks of sword fighting lessons, ((It's true!)) but what could a sword do when someone else had a bow and arrow? Swords are more deadly close range, but are useless when fighting across a room...
One of the girls screamed when she looked down at her chest. "Probably a guy," I chuckled silently to myself. Suddenly, a little man seemed to appear out of nowhere.
"Ahem," spoke the man. "Welcome."
The rest of the conversation went quickly. I hadn't spoken; I guess I had just seemed to take in the whole thing better than the others. One thing I always believed was, you get along better in life if you just accept what happens to you. As unbelievable as it seemed, I still had to grip this new reality and go with it.
Soon we were being led out of the room. I picked myself up, and fell in step behind a female. She looked like an archer; dark green hair, and a dark green tunic. Kind of like the female version of Peter Pan, only she had a bow around her waist and a quiver tied to her back.
After a little while of walking, I thought to myself, "Hey, I may have to fight these people... perhaps I should make some friends, since I seem to be one of the only ones here without a buddy..." I was of course referring to the fact that there were two clumsy girls with two guys, and they all seemed to know each other already.
I picked up the walking pace a little, and soon I was beside the archer I'd been following.
"Um, hi," I began, not really sure how to begin the conversation. "So... this is kind of weird, huh?"
The girl looked at me, not really sure how to respond. After all, I hadn't said a word this whole time, and I was kinda in the back; she probably didn't notice me till now.
"Oh... hi. Um, yeah... weird..." There was some silence. "I'm Saria."
I smiled. "I'm... Florence," I said, almost forgetting that I was no longer Alex here. "I guess you can just call me Flo."
"Is that your real name? I mean, the name you had before you filled out that sign-up form..."
"Nope. Actually, I used to role play on this Tenth Kingdom site as a dragon ruler with the name Florence all the time. I thought it went well with this rpg..."
There was more silence once I brought up "this rpg."
She broke the silence once more. "What do you think's gonna happen to us?"
"Dunno. I just hope I don't have to fight you," I joked. "That's one mean bow you've got."
"Yeah, but it'll be useless if we fought closely. You'd obviously win that one," she said, pointing at my rather large broadsword sticking out of my back sheath.
I thought about that for a second. "You know... you've got long range, and I've got short range. How about we watch each other's backs? You know how these role playing things go, they're always the best when you've got a buddy with you..."
