Wow..I should of checked this place out sooner, but I'll try and catch up, in numerical order no less =P.

    1. Best on my team...hmm..I've been an on and off battler for a long time, with different accounts, but as of now my favorite is my Grumpig. Who does enjoy Psychic bacon? Huh? WHO!?.....Ok..maybe its just me..

    2. In all honesty..I never had a strange battle to speak of..all of mine never finshed or started to get a strange point ^_^

    3. I'm a firm believer that all pokemon have a use..and at random I'll choose to battle with a creature I'm not used to, for example, Seedot. I havn't used him in battle yet, but having to think outside the box to make him effective is awesome.

    4. I usually choose pokemon on my exaggerated imagination..simple because in my mind my team can do things out of the ordinary =P

    5. To sum up everything else-Shadow Rush...meh..Tourney's gonna be sweet, sign me up, Gym Leaders would be teh awesome, I have 2 types I really want...

To start up a new topic I have a few question, being new to the revamped ASB. To the refs..how do you stay focused to finsh battles, I will admit I have offered to ref and never finshed..and it doesn't help to create trust when players know you will ditch a battle..I like reffing..just I lose my imginative flow or patience. Also to battlers, how many battle have you actully "Finshed" offically,no DQ's or forfeit, just honest bare knuckles battling to the end? Me..never..I've never had a battler finshed...would be nice though =P.

I have had a few matches finished mainly because of opposition suddenly dissapearing from ASB. I usually do not trust people until they have stuck around for some time, so I know they won't dissapear. I usually have 1-1's or 2-2s for that reason, but at the moment I am in a 4-4, a 3-3 and a 1-1.

I always finish reffings because I feel I have a duty to ref. Anyway I like to feel somewhat important.

    I've actually only finished one. And that was with sesshomaru. I don't remember if it was because of DQ, or the fact that he cheated... >_>;;

I stay loyal to battles because I love creating different scenes, and love discribing attacks. Psychic, Earthquake, and Bide are usually the most fun. ^^ I also have fun seeing how Battlers react to certain things. Compliments are nice too ^^

Another subject... Does anyone who refs or battles have a 'character design' for them personally?

I tend too. I have recently fallen in love with being the supposively twisted ref who has magical powers... Maybe its just me, but I find it fun to imagine characters.

    As far as I know, I only had one finished battle, and that was a 1v1 on the vBulletin board. The others were either cancelled due to infrequency (the tag battle that was put on hold big time between Arbiter/DD and Wolfsong/Siderous), or during the transition to vB to this board (Becca vs Sal2 and Crystal Tears vs DaRk MeWtWo). The latter match was a shame, since I really enjoyed that one. ;_;

Right now, I'm reffing five matches right now. I mainly joined them up since I got impatient with no refs arriving to take heed of those matches, but now I'm under heavy pressure to keep up with the demand now. =\ Nevertheless, I'll stay loyal to them since I'm since and tired of deserters to the ASB that I barraged with in the early days when I joined up here.

As far as matches I've finished, I've completed quite a bunch. I've completed a tag battle with MTC, the first ever free for all battle, a chaotic 4v4 with Andrew and a match with Charles Legend. I've also had loads of battles that were only done halfway such as between LightNinetails, Drade130, and SS >|. Right now, I'm in my first 3v3 with Chris 2.0, another tag battle with DTZ, and a 1v1 with Darkfire, so its cool stuff.

EDIT: I do have 'character designs' for battles interestingly. Its my announcing and commentary partner named Bob. He has a nasty tendicy to point out the obvious and poke fun at the ref *coughmecough*. I also have a tendicy to toss in a music track in my battles for good measure. It's nice to keep the tempo going. XP

Yeah, the only reason I left ASB earlier was because every single one of my battles died. Hopefully, I won't have this problem again.

Anyway, in response to CT's question, I have 2 character designs that I swap between. One is the guy in my avatar - he's from F-Zero GX, name's Digi-Boy, and he looks scarily like I did when I was a few years younger.

I also use this guy http://starmen.net/mother2/images/game/hhappyist.png sometimes. He's a Happy Happyist from the game EarthBound, and my username was partially inspired by his color scheme.

    I can't remember if I finished a battle. But since I returned, well... I've only had one battle start. XD But... I know I've had a battle or two with other dude being DQed. D: yeah. But I have no life so I haven't ever been DQed that I remember. >>;

Ok, I've got a question, I just recently became a Rookie ref *break dances a bit in celebration* and I'm curious about using a Random Number Generator in weighing the odds of status effects, attacks missing, etc. How would I go about using one properly and can anyone recommend some online ones? I found one, but I dunno if I should post the link or not to it, and I kinda don't understand it...

I wouldn't say you need a random number generator. Status effects occur unless there is a way to avoid them. Eg: if your opponent uses thunderwave it has 100% accuracy, so most times it will hit. But thunderwave may miss if, for example, you used a cotton spore which would stop the thunderwave from reaching you. Even using another thunder wave of your own to counter your opponents. Toxic is similar - using water gun to water it down, blow it back with gust...unless these sort of actions are used, then it is very likely the attack will hit.

Simimarly, if an opponent does not dodge, evade, or in any way get out the way of an attack, it will miss. Random number generators are useful for things like metronome; I use one to randomly generate what will hatch from an egg.

Look at other battles to see about things like this. You shouldn't need one.

And for the record, I think I've lost most my matches. I've only won 2, IIRC, lost maybe 4, and had the rest DQed.

Using a Random Generator on a pokemon hatching, that narrows the odds of you getting the pokemon you want dramatically doesn't it?
Not that I'm complaining, but pokemon I have recieved I have accepted happily into my team. Especially my Girafarig.

Anyways, onto another subject... I was wondering what happened to all the refs? And alot of the ASBers in general? Is there something nasty about the ASB underground which some us of don't know? *raises eyebrow* Or is it just because they're all being bums?

Nope, it's school. High School, College, and all that fun stuff have started up for all of us once again, and that also means loads of homework for all affected parties. It's not that we've gone AWOL. lol.

CT: We use a randomizer because it is non-bias. And it also means the chances are low for getting a Pokemon you want. But if, for example, you want a specific Pokemon, there is the Approval Tower. The Egg Center is cheaper but allows a sense of freedom - you don't know what you'll get. It makes it interesting.

In ASB, there has always been an issue with reffing. It's time-consuming, for a start, and you're also the one who people blame if the match isn't going their way. It's not the best position but things stand that now a ref gets the same number of points that the winner gets. People just don't have the time. I know I do it because it really is worth a lot of points, and is handy if you have a lot of evolving to do.

    Yeh... I started reffing cause I'm not getting any points. D: Mostly cause my battles are going REALLY slow. x_X; Feh. I don't enjoy reffing very much but meh. Yado it anyhow ^^; And uhhm. I dunno if I'm going slower then usual, but I personally don't have homework or anything. So yaysers for me. ^_^;

    So...

Who's all excited about the Tournament? I know I am, even though I doubt I'll get very far :-/ See we're gonna try and pair people up of a similar ability so someone who is relatively new doesn't go against someone like me who has *counts* 17 Pokemon IIRC. So I'll have to go against someone like Dan who will own me. Although in our 6-6 we were very evenly matched...

So I'm excited. Should be great fun, EXP for my Pokes and a way of celebrating how far we've come in ASB. Yayness.

Actually, I'm surprised many people are worried about fighting bigger Pokemon. Yes, they're bigger, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will loose to a larger more 'powerful' Pokemon. As the saying goes 'The cuter they are. The worse they'll kick your ass.'
I'm excited. I want to see if my optimistic attitude towards ASB pulls through and I win at least one match. I'm also excited about EXP.. It would be nice to have an evolved poke on my team.
Are there really 16 ASbers though? O.o... All they all hiding in the ASB underground? Or have they disappeared because of school/colledge etc.
And I agree with Chris. W... Is it really possible to get 16 ASBers?

Dan: ACTUALLY Pineco crippled Zubat, and when the match was cancelled Solrock only had 7% health more than Sneasel so nyar . In our 6-6 we had...erm..Cacturne VS Zangoose, Magnemite VS Snubble and Gligar VS Wartortle, IIRC. We'll finish a match one day. Maybe even have a 12-12 with various refs.

TBA: I'm sure you'll get something evolved soon. I mean you can still evolve things during you tournament between your own matches.

Chris W: We have 12 so far, that means only 4 more needed. I can definitely think of four not on the list. Knight of Time, for example, Andrew, Darkest Light, Master of Paradox, Weasel overlord, DarkTemplarZ, MTC, Syberia....I'm sure four of them will step up. Hopefully.

CT: Good attitude there. Your Pokemon can generally stand up to evolved forms in terms of size (Lapras, Scyther, Girafarig) so I think you'll be ok. I think everyone will, really. And see above. We have 20+ ASBers as it stands. Some should come forward. SHOULD, that is.

    The tournament has begun!

Check the Tournament topic for more info on pairings up.

So, discuss the Tournament here! I'm rather apprehensive against fighting Wolfsong - she's damn good. I've never actually done a double battle before, either. Well gotta stay posetive.

What about everyone else? Excited about your matches, or dreading them? We made the pairings as fair as we could, I hope everyone finds them ok. 8 of us will be defeated, but 8 will continue to the next round.

    Well, I'm definitely excited myself.

Going against Crystal Tears is perfectly fine with me. With my brainpower seemingly increased from when I was in the old ASB, my match with CT ought to be an exciting one, win or lose.

As you may or may not know, I'm not too happy about going up against Amy. I know I decided the setups but...well, still...she's a good ASBer :-/

^^; Thanks for the compliments Chris but i think you're giving me too much credit. ^^; It looks like we're finally getting a battle though i still would like to have seen how my eevee would have fared against your duskull if we had gotten a ref. Still it should be an interesting battle. You're a rather tough opponent as well.

    So....

    This place sure is quiet.

I guess all the waiters and waitresses are busy watching the Tourney matches.

What are everyones opinions on the Tournament so far? Personally I think it's going very well indeed. I feel the only problem is referees, with some being absent, some being busy etc all. If anyone wants to ref a match for us, and did not sign up at the start, you can still do it. Check the ASB News topic in the main forum.

    Good luck everyone!

Yeah, the tournament is going well alright. It definitely is fun, and not only that, it's definitely going to be a learning experience for all of us, regardless of who goes on to the next round and who doesn't.

Say, there's something else I wanted to ask. About questions that came up earlier in this topic (right around its first few weeks), are we allowed to answer them if we haven't already?

Yea! This place is just a general place to chill. Make your own discussions, if you want. This cafe is a nice little place for us to share stories, have a chat and whatnot.

Oh cool. To answer all the previous questions I that came up before I returned (be prepared for a long post guys):

Best Pokemon?- Toughie for me. I'd probably have to go for my Absol, Zangoose and Chansey. With their wide movepools and abilities to learn moves of many different types (including Flamethrower, Ice Beam and Thunderbolt for starters), I assure anyone who comes across one of these three Pokemon of mine in battle, don't expect them to be easily defeated. In the old ASB, I used to like Pokemon who have big movepools, and I still do here too.

Strangest battle?- Oh man, this one is even tougher. I wouldn't even dream of calling any of my battles strange, so in short, I really haven't had a battle I'd call strange.

Pokemon I have that I didn't expect to have?- At first, when I was slowly starting to see what the new ASB was like, if I had returned earlier than I did weeks ago, I probably wouldn't have expected to have a shiny Steelix, b/c it was no easy task to think of a fitting name; that is, until I got my chance to evolve my Onix, who was nameless at first, and also one of my first four Pokemon since my comeback began and make him shiny. From looking at the pic of an advanced generation shiny Steelix, that's how I came up with my Steelix's name, which incase anyone besides Chris 2.0 noticed, is Goldix.

Pokemon I like?- When I restarted here, I had to think very, very carefully about what Pokemon I wanted to start with in the new ASB. Since I had so many Pokemon in the old ASB before I quit (I had a lot of Pokemon then, I think it may have been more than 50), it was a bit tricky to decide on what Pokemon I liked the most out of the ones I once had. Of course, in the old ASB, one Pokemon I didn't have then, which I have now, is my Zangoose, Rika. She was one of my four choices, and I picked the others for different reasons. I chose to have an Absol (namely my male Absol, Sabre) because I am a big fan of Absol (I can hardly wait to see the Absol eppy on TV hopefully 2-3 months from now), I chose a Treecko because one of my favourite fully evolved Grass types is its final form, Sceptile, and also because I might try a new combo on it involving Crunch and Giga Drain, finally, I chose Onix because there is a combo I might try someday, but it's only possible with an Onix or Steelix (basically, it's using Bind to "cage" the opponent, and using Flail while the opponent is trapped in the coils to get it knocked around inside the coils, much like a coin inside a bottle being shaken).

Next catch?- I'm not sure yet. I just caught a Chansey as my first caught Pokemon under the new ASB, so it could be a while before I decide what to catch next, that is, once I have a few more points in my bank account.

About the question regarding the ASB news topic, yeah, I look at it each time it is updated, but sometimes, I like to look at it just for the fun of things.

Of course, since the next question there pertains to the Tournament, how can I look forward to something that is already on? IMO, it's going GREAT.

Businesses I'd want to see?- hmm, maybe a breeding center would be nice. I used to like the old breeding center businesses in the old ASB, but with the Egg Center in existance, I'd think a new breeding center would be good, but only if the price to breed two Pokemon (whether it's two Pokemon from the same trainer, one from the trainer and a Ditto from the breeding center, or two Pokemon from two different ASBers) was more than one point. Obviously, breeding two Pokemon for one point (or one point per person) would be a bit too cheap.

Regarding the addition of Shadow Rush, I'm not sure if I am going to use it in any of my battles. It might come in handy though, just incase.

Battles I have finished?- Well, in the new ASB, I finished two battles, both of which I won. One was against Xovad; she ended up getting DQed, the other was against Rapamon2 who was also DQed (personally, I'd much rather win a battle by KO than by DQ or forfeit). He (Rapamon2) was annoying at times, and I never would have thought that after looking at a double battle here Chris W. reffed, that this guy that was my opponent in my second battle would have two accounts...

As for other battles, well, since I did battle and ref in the old ASB, I don't keep track of my old battles and reffed battles in the archive. I do look at some of them occasionally, just to bring back memories.

Character design?- I really can't answer this question, due to the fact I can't think of one, if I had one that is. Since I am currently not a referee, I also have no idea of what my "character design" would be, if I ever was to be a referee again. Only time will tell on that one.

I'm not going to answer the random number generator question, simply because I'm currently not a referee. But if I was one again, I'd probably use the dice in an AIM chat room I go into by myself whenever necessary.

Regarding the question on what happened to the referees that was posted on Sep. 14, I really have nothing to say here, since I'm currently not a referee. But if I was a ref again, I'm nervous that some other things that I have to do at TPM (some are mainly in the AC/CC sub-forum of PCG) might get in the way, and reduce the chances of me reffing a round of a battle at a time I'd want to do the next (or first) round. Since I'm on a LONG quest to catch some fully evolved Pokemon at the Crystal Caves Capture Center in AC/CC, that currently is one of my major priorities, and with that, there is no telling if or when I'll be a referee here.

I guess that's all for me to post here, until a new question comes up for us all...

    KoT: Mammoth post there 0_o;,.

Nice combo idea. I heard some good ones I'm itching to try out, but it's finding out of my Pokemon have the moves required for the combo - and even though I have loads of members in my ASB team, it's still a no go.

The thing with a breeding center is, well, if two trainers breed their Pokemon, who keeps the offspring? Furthermore, I can't see it being popular. If you want a new Pokemon, there is the Approval Tower. There, you can get any Pokemon (except legendaries) with any colourings or marks whatsoever. A Breeding Center would be useless. And with trivial things like levels/attacks not being an issue either, a training center or Pokemon Raising center is also useless.

I like the idea of having an RPG-style Safari Zone, but then again, what's the point? You can just get a pokemon from the approval tower. Obviously we're thinking of some ideas, and I do have some which may get developed, so keep your eyes open.

I really frown upon the idea of setting up a Safari Zone-style minigame in ASB. This is Anime Style Pokemon Battling, not AC/CC, and one of the reasons the old ASB fell apart was the rampant influx of crazy businesses, many which took away from the main idea from ASB, while creating loopholes in other areas.

Just wanted to put my two pennies in. Yeargh.

I can see what you mean. I went to AC/CC and was surprised it wasn't a part of ASB. I do think it would be a nice addition, but a Safari Zone is pointless. We're here to battle, and how we obtain the Pokemon isn't something to elaborate on.

However just now I have drafted up some very exciting plans and sent them to Razor Leaf for discussion. With any luck, 2006 will be an explosive year in ASB!

Oh. About my big post here Chris, having many questions to answer simply equals a big post, b/c I tend to put as much thought as possible into answering them.

Speaking of questions, I thought I out to bring up one of my own, for you guys to answer.

Do you ever think up combos of your own, and even give names to them?

To me, yes, I have a combo I used in a tag team battle while I was in the old ASB (it was me and T_M_L/Rebecca against Hexae and Avain Freeze, but the latter two are gone right now. I haven't seen either of them in ages). It's basically done with a winged Pokemon by using a Steel Wing, then using Pursuit against it's opponent while the wings have the glint and sharp edges. IOW, think of Silverhawke (this is Steel Wing and Quick Attack I believe), but with a dark aura added. Surprisingly, I think this combo nullifies Toxic if it is used on the user of this combo, like it was in the tag team battle I mentioned. Of course, I might be thinking up a new combo, where the user does an Iron Tail, and then begins a Rollout while their tail still has the sharp edge and metallic glint (think of the Pokemon making like a saw blade used in something carpentry related), but I have yet to think up a name for it.

One of my favorite combos is to have my Exeggcute use Barrage and Egg Bomb at the same time, pelting the opponent with several bombs in succession. I'm torn between calling it Bombs Away or Bomb Voyage. (I think it was Crystal Tears who came up with the former name.)
