Thread: Growth rates?

  1. #1

    Default Growth rates?

I used to have a list of growth rates for the ru/sapp pkmn, but i have since misplaced it.

Anyone know of a list that shows the different growth rates? (ex. spinda is quickest)
I have also heard they added a few more growth rates. im not sure if this is new in emerald or new in ru/sapp.
I have tried the search function (google and tpm), but came up empty. I also apologise if this is classified as rule 3. I dont know how else to find them.

    A quick responce is appreciated

Bulbapedia has the experience growth rate formulas (there are six):

    http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Experience

They have a pokédex there (just do a seach on the name) that lists at what EXP a pokémon reached L100, so I can confirm Spinda reaches it at 800,000XP, which is actually the second quickest schedule.

Don't know of any summaries, sorry.

    Default Re: Growth rates?

Why do you suppose Volbeat takes so much less time than Illumise to gain levels?

    yay, thanks

one more question, do all (non evolution) pokemon grow at a steady rate?
Because i just caught a volbeat, and it took at bit og fighting just to raise it to lvl 20. For instance would volbeat get easier to raise at his later levels?

No, the experience required always increases exponentially per level.

PS I just answered my own question. Reciprocally, Seviper and Zangoose both take vastly different amounts of exp. to gain levels, similar to Volbeat and Illumise.

Yeah, the growth rates are a little strange. Actually, through Level 37, the Pokémon that reach Level 100 with 600,000 exp. points are the hardest ones to level up!! However, the other Pokémon's leveling rates start catching up at the higher levels. Pokémon that reach Level 100 with 600,000 exp. points will never even need to get more than 10,000 exp. points in between levels to gain a level, even from Level 99 to Level 100, they need less than 8,000 exp points, while others will need 24,000-70,000 exp. points!!

There were only 4 growth rates originally - "fast" (800,000), "medium" (1,000,000), "slow" (1,250,000) and "parabolic" (1,059,860). The first three are proportional to each other, the last one designed to be faster than the others at lower levels (especially in the critical L5-30 range of the early game) but falling behind at the higher levels (though it never becomes slower than "slow").

Ruby and Sapphire added the other two, which are not based on simple formulas, but discontinuous ones (i.e. the formula changes at certain levels). As far as I can see they wanted an extra fast and an extra slow progression that flipped over to the opposite at higher levels. Instead of working out simple formulas they broke it up into several to get the curve they wanted. Since the XP progressions were stored as tables already there was no compelling reason to make the new growth rates smooth.
