I would think it's all of Pokemon used in the battle on the user's side, including the Pokemon itself. So if it's a one on one, the attack is going to be rather weak

I never liked that attack in the first place though. It doesn't have an anime description and the game description doesn't look like it matches with the attack name at all

[font=sylfaen] Thanks TML, I'd have to disagree with you on the name and description in the game though. Have all the Pokemon come out and 'whack' the opposing Pokemon does seem to fit the description of beating someone up. What would you call it otherwise? Gang Up? lol

Yea Becca's description is pretty accurate. Using it in a 12-12 would be handy (idea), but in a 1-1 it would do next to nothing.

As far as I can see, it's not explicitly written down anywhere in the rules... so I must ask, which movepools may we draw from for a Pokémon's attacks? I'm assuming the R/S/E/FR/LG movepools are acceptable, as well as Shadow Rush and XD moves (as you said before) but what about Emerald and Fire Red/Leaf Green Move Tutor moves (such as a Thunderpunching Ludicolo or a Mega Kicking Charizard)?

Any attack can be used by a pokémon just as long as it is learnable in any of the English-released games (which would be all of them at the moment).

As far as I know, XD moves have not been implemented into the ASB system yet, although FR/LG and Emerald has. I'm not sure what Chris and Dan plan to do with it as I can't find any of their descriptions in Pokedexes

Something tells me that those shadow moves are just restricted to that game and probably won't be used into the gameboy games. I would treat them as NYC PC moves, which is banned from ASB

Well we added Shadow Rush just to see how it would work. I don't think anybody has actually used it, so we wont bother adding in any of the other shadow moves. XD moves (as in the new moves learnt when purifying and the elemental hyper beams on the johto starters) are allowed now, since the game is available everywhere.

Personally, I would like to see the inclusion of the other Shadow attacks, but only to the Pokemon who learn it. I'd be more than happy to help with descriptions and such aout the attacks, too.

    Hmm, I just noticed something...

Who compiled the attack list? Because, alot of the descriptions are taken, word for word, from UPN/Serebii/BMG's Pokemon Anime Style Battling League (PASBL) Attack Description list.

For those of you who can't look properly, the link to the attack descriptions is on the far left, 12th link down.

It's also a good list to use, and I'm sure I could get permission to use it...If everyone wants to =/

Amanda did the RBY/GSC list and Hikaru did the R/S list. If you're talking about the R/S list, Hikaru also belonged to the PASBL league. We wouldn't take a list without someone's permission

Yeah, I meant the R/S one, because alot of the attacks are copied word for word.

    Also, forgive me, but the link for the R/B/Y/G/S/C attacks doesn't work. Is there a new site, or am I just missing something? ^^;

It depends alot with the ref, being one of those moves that depends greatly on interpretation. Personally, I let the pokemon recover a set amount of HP each action, and Half that amount of Energy, but only allow it to last for 5 actions (as with the game). I usually make it about 10% HP (and so 5% Energy), since I feel letting it go straight back to 100% instantly is far to cheap and unfair. After 5 actions, 10% has totalled 50%, so that's half healed. Obviously it totally heals confusion, poison, and other status effects. Unlike other sleep conditions, they are less likely to be woken up by being attacked, unless it is severe (like, a resting Magmar dropped into a lake, for instance).

I think DD means the new moves learnt. When you purify a pokemon in XD, it gets moves it can't normally learn in other games. As oppose to Shadow Moves, which, despite my best efforts, couldn't think of a goood way to implement them all.

I think Chris has brought up 4 moves that be learnt via Pokemon Box too, which are really crappy moves like Pay-Day, so you can use them, but I can't see anyone wanting to really.

Its great because a lot of Pokemon get refresh in XD which is a very useful move in game and in ASB.

    As for Pokemon Box moves:

    Pichu: Surf
    Skitty: Pay Day
    Zigzagoon: Extremespeed
    Swablu: False Swipe

These four are legit on these Pokemon and their evolved forms.

The list still has no edited description for Perish Song. I'm just curious if this was gonna change soon? Just wondering.

As for Hidden Power, I had an idea for it.

Hidden Power: The user demonstrates a very minor psychic influence, allowing them to create and control energy of a certain type and fire it off at the opponent. Depending on the type and Pokemon, this can be easier or more difficult.
If the pokemon uses a HP of their own type, good damage, low fatigue.
Normal effect - Moderate damage and energy.
Super/Not Very Effective - Low damage, high energy cost
No effect - Trivial damage, "Recovery" move fatigue.
All are of course overridden by "Same type". So Electric HP on an Electric type(While kind of useless) won't be low strength high energy.

Now to keep people from abusing a Pokemons HP, once you use HP once, that is the ONLY HP type for the battle. For example, Hitmonchan uses HP Ice, and then Dragonair faints, I can't suddenly use HP Rock to take out Charmeleon. I'm stuck with HP Ice for the rest of the round.

Possibility - Arena decides how easy/hard it is to use the attack. This might be too difficult to ref, since people might claim "Hey why can't I use HP Rock in the sky? There's dust!" so that can probably be thrown out.

As for Unown, being an adept at it, it can use any type of attack, although it is always moderate damage and moderate fatigue. How does Unown attack now? It could just use that as a secondary-option.

A better way to have Hidden Power is to just make it of the User's main type. (Like Bulbasaur using HP Grass, not HP Poison,) or the one they use most. (For examply, Meditite is mostly seen as a Psychic type, so its HP would be Psychic type.)

  25. #105

Default Re: ASB Attack List Beta: All Versions

I have to agree, as it wouldn't be a very HIDDEN power, if it were their type.
If people want to roll the cr@ps dice, I say use a die to roll, and make a set hidden power type for every species, yes, that's a long and arduous task, but it would be fair...

At one point I thought about having Hidden Powder given out at the team approval stage. Unless you are breeding for precise stats, HP is random. So instead of a person choosing what type they get, one would be given to their pokemon when they get it approved.

How about just making Hidden Power a neutral attack against all types (like Shadow Rush).

Just something to use that would never be super-effective, but would also never be ineffective or not very effective either.

The problem with that is that if the owner forgets what type was given to their Pokemon, they could possibly use another type to their advantage. That's why HP has been banned for so long - abuse of using different types

I can see what you're getting at. A Pokemon uses Hidden Power and a type that they would be able to pull of based on their types and movepool. It's a good idea, and could work. Something like a Crobat would be able to use HP Flying and HP Poison without a problem. It wouldn't have much trouble using HP Dark since it learns some Dark attacks, but would be impossible to use HP Psychic or HP electric, because it has no control over the types.

As for using the arena, it seems similar to... *checks* Nature Power. Which has different effects/attacks based on the arena. I've not seen that used anywhere probably because of people not knowing how the atack would turn out based on the ref and their veiws of the arena.

There's always the option of having the HP type randomly chosen by the ref everytime it is used. Even if you get HP Ice to finish off a Salamance, the next time you use it, it may end up as Electric against a Diglett.

I actually really like this idea. I'm a big fan of randomness moves, and this could be a less-risky Metronome.

But that's not at all how Hidden Power works as an attack.

And it was similar, RL, but it was more that the farther from it's type(through weakness, resistance, immunity) the harder it is to perform with very little damage.

But that's not how it works either. Every Pokemon can theoretically use any type of Hidden Power to the same degree of success (barring STAB).

But that's not exactly fair. Neither is random HP. Otherwise you'll end up getting a case like Metronome, and Nature Power where nobody uses it.

Besides, in this ASB a Pokemon can use Hyper Beam more than Recover. The games energy use has been changed.

It's only there because apparently Hikaru would've had an ulcer if something in the anime was immedietly used in the ASB style.

I ref it as a good. Even if it's Weezing. He's been known to spit out gobs of goo.
