Hmm ok I'm battling a Snubble here (thought it would make sense to include the link), and I believe I post here what I want to do (if I understood the above paragraphs right). Well I'm going to be using my ♂ Ponyta, Cimmeron. Seeing as how my Horsea can't really be used on this route . . .

Ok Cimmy, first off try to put it to sleep with a Hypnosis. Then if its asleep, use a Sunny Day followed up by a Solarbeam. If its not asleep, use Double Team, followed by Flamethrower.

[COLOR=blue]Let Round One Begin!

[COLOR=#bc8f8f]Sandstorms and dust kicks up around the roadside as this new trainer stands off against her first wild Pokemon encounter since becoming a trainer. Picking quickly as the Snubble glares at her, she chooses her trusty new Pokemon: Cimmeron, the Ponyta. Cimmeron paws the ground slowly with his hoof as Snubble goes all out with a Take down. The small dog Pokemon rushes up, slamming into the horse full force. Cimmeron returns a glare toward Snubble for the sudden attack, his eyes begin to glow a eerie light blue, the same blue color fills Snubble’s eyes as it begins to dip over from exhaustion.

Snubble continues to fight the exaustion, ever few seconds it’s head dips over as if she were about to fall over, and then snaps out of it and wakes up for only a few more seconds. Not wanting to waste a perfect opportunity, River calls out for Cimmeron to use Sunny Day. Her new Pokemon responds by igniting the flames on it’s back, these flames seem to intensify the already hot heat in the area, while the small cirrus clouds in the sky quickly burn off allowing for the sun to beat down upon the roadside. The heat doesn’t help Snubble’s already exhausted state and it collapses upon the ground.

Eyeing the now completely asleep Snubble, River wipes the sweat from her brow and calls out for Cimmeron to use Solar Beam. Flames lick around Cimmeron’s skin as it draws energy into its mouth from the sun and the crackling heated atmosphere in the area. Rearing back Cimmeron releases the Solar Beam with full force; the beam leaps from Cimmeron’s mouth and flashes across the roadside, striking the sleeping Snubble straight on. Snubble flys into the air from the attack and falls in a crumpled heap against the road, the small Pokemon suddenly awakened from it’s slumber, yet still quiet drowsy.

I casually strolled along the pathway, not bothering to really pay any attention. Tai had been following suit, whilst Argonaut had been resting in his black-colored poké ball (I paint them that color; it's more unique that way). My long coat had been flailing in the wind behind me, looking like a super hero cape.

"Zigzagoon!" barked the small hound.

"Zigzagoon," I mused aloud. I had no interest in catching any pokémon today, but the battle experience would be prime. "Tai, you ready?"

The tiny cubone gripped onto his mother's bone apprehensively, "Cuu!"

"Alright then. Start off by using Focus Energy to keep your mind at ease. Then follow up with a Bone Club! Finally, use Ancientpower!"

Exol'tai nodded in acknowledgement before adjusting his skull cap; eager to battle, he glares menacingly at his foe.

Now Cimmy that was a great job, but we don't want to kill it, but if we do oh well, you do gain experience. Anyway, I want you to use a Flamethrower and then a, well, try Quick Attack. You may avoid getting hit, and it isn't super hurtful either. Lastly Relax, well see what level of HP it is at.

[COLOR=#bc8f8f]The raging heat of this mid spring day continues as River calls out her next attack. Cimmeron bays in acknowledgement as the flames on his back roar up again. The Snubble begins to shake her head to try and swat the stars away from her dreamy haze, all the while Cimmeron lunges forward and releases a wild Flamethrower from it’s mouth. The flames quickly race across the area between the two Pokemon, turning the ground into a hellish blaze only for a few seconds before the Snubble is hit straight on with the powerful Flamethrower.

The flames quickly die down and the Snubble glares, it had prepared itself for the flames, yet wasn’t fully awake enough to prepare a counter attack. Yet now she seems to fully have awakened from its slumber. River decides that she doesn’t want the Snubble to faint if possible and asks her Cimmeron to prepare for a Quick Attack. The Ponyta nods and races forward, kicking up dirt and rocks in his wake as he races across the battlefield. The Snubble stands firm and waits for Cimmeron to reach striking distances. Cimmeron races past Snubble striking her with his quick attack in amazing speed. Snubble, in her anger to retaliate for all the pain she is in, spins around and strikes Cimmeron with a glowing fist as she delivers a Mega Punch straight into Cimmeron’s side.

Cimmeron falls over from the mega punch, yet this seems to play straight into River’s plan as she orders Cimmeron to relax and take it easy so that they can check Snubble’s health. Snubble, still enraged in the battle, races forward and delivers a tackle into Cimmeron’s side which sends the Pokemon skidding backwards only a bit.

[COLOR=#bc8f8f]Both Pokemon continued as we reach Round three of this heated battle. Cimmeron slowly rises to his feet on shaky legs as Snubble begins to grumble, preparing for her next attack. River waits for it to happen, and it only takes a second for the dog Pokemon to strike. The small Pokemon leaps forward with black energy crackling in her jaw. Cimmeron rears back in fear as Snubble leaps forward and clamps down on Cimmeron’s back leg, the Crunch attack ripping into Cimmeron’s leg and tearing at the flesh. Cimmeron begins to cry out as River orders a Flamethrower attack. More than happy to hurt Snubble back, Cimmeron leans forward and delivers a torrent of flames straight into the face of the Snubble at close range.

Faced with the choice of continuing to clamp down and endure the flames or to let go, Snubble quickly decided to choose the safer route and let go, allowing the flames to carry it backwards for a few feet. Cimmeron quickly begins to hobble around with his hurt leg. Not wanting to waste the opportunity, River orders a tackle attack. Snubble seems to have the same idea as both Pokemon rush forward, each tired and in pain and meet each other head on.

Both Pokemon go flying backwards, Cimmeron landing on his side while Snubble flying onto her back. Cimmeron slowly rises to his feet and turns to River, waiting faithfully for her next command. Meanwhile Snubble turns over on her side slowly, struggling just to make it to her feet. Deciding that this is the best time, River tosses out her Pokeball, which opens and envelops Snubble in a flash of light. The Pokeball lands and tosses about three times before finally coming to rest. River has captured Snubble!

A low grumbling noise and then the shifting of Rain’s rock pillow made him pay attention. Looking over at his Rhyhorn, Rain frowned; Xion impatiently nuzzled against his arm, and then began to shove.

“Alright Alright…” Rain sighed, getting to his feet. “Listen Cearo, I need to go on a walk before Xion decides to use me as a place-mat.”

“Xion. Would you actually do that?”

An uncomforting nod from the Rhyhorn made Rain shake his head before he headed out. “We’ll be back soon; you can come along if you like.”

“What route are you going to be on?!”

“260….” He laughed, as he pointed to the very sign mere feet from him that bared the routes name. Smiling he headed forward.

It was a rocky path, sand, and dirt swirled around in the breeze, a small amount of plants, mostly only small tuffs of grass that had somehow managed to live on this mountain trail. Sighing, Rain wandered over to a rock and sat down, resting his face in his hands, the heat was beginning to get to him, though he had wandered down this trail many times before, he peered out of his hands to see Rhyhorn sniffing the ground a bit.

“What’s up?”

A low grunting noise, fallowed by more sniffing; Rain recognized this, he had found the scent of a pokemon, he smiled, walking over to his Pokemon.

“Where’s it lead?”

Rhyhorn motion his head forwards, a large rock blocked whatever was behind it from view, but Rain wasn’t exactly known for his intelligence in these matters. Cautiously, with Xion directly behind him, he peered behind the rock.

[color=#990A66]Grey vs. Zigzagoon
BEGIN!
Round One!

Area: Route 253, just outside of South Hyners. With the city behind you and the rolling hills before you, its a beautful scene with lush grass, scattered trees and small boulders and stones scattered here and there. A few clouds are scatter high in the sky, enough to shade the sun every now and then.

[color=purple]Tai and the wild Zigzagoon stare each other down as they slowly circle each other through the lush grass. As they cautiously approach the peak of a nearby hill, a strong aura begins to surround Tai as Grey commands for him Focus his Energy. As he does such, the his opponent releases a low grumble and, in a swift kick-turn, flings a Sand Attack towards the concentrating Cubone. The shot tosses some of the fertile soil into Tai helmet and eyes, blinding him slightly.

Somewhat frustrated with the dirtying of it's mother's precious skull, Tai centers his focused energy onto the femor of his deceased parent. "Follow it up with a Bone Club." Grey shouts a command to Tai. In a twinge of anger, he hurls himself forward, slamming the bone down on the Zigzagoon's head. Letting out a cry of pain, the small rodent recoils from the impact and makes a run for it, as if she were trying to escape! Tai begins to clean out his eyes and skull helm, but while he does, the Zigzagoon does an about-face and charges back towards the Cubone. Lowering her head, she collides with Tai's stomache in a powerful Headbutt, which sends the orphaned Pokemon skidding across the terrain.

Getting frustrated with this wild ferret, Tai stands himself back up, a dim anger overtaking his eyes. Raising his sword-like bone above his head, he swings it downward, bludgeoning the ground with the tip. The ground rumbles as several large stones levitate out of newly broken crags in the hillside. Ritualistically waving his club in the air, Tai sends the many rocks over the landscape to strike the Zigzagoon. While the first one or two are dodged, the next series hits their target, and hard! Almost encased in a prison of stone, it seems as though the beast is trapped, but suddenly, movement can be seen between through the cracks. Tai cautiously approaches the pile and knocks them over, prepared for a surprise attack, yet, all that can be seen inside is a mound of dirt. Realizing the Pokemon has Dug underground, the Cubone carefully eyes the ground, waiting for Grey's next command.

"Well done, Tai," I said to the scrappy ground element, "now that he's underground, make him miserable with a powerful Earthquake! Then gather your strength and wait for the 'zagoon to emerge from his earthy prison and him 'im with a troubling Bonemarang."

[CENTER] Rain Taylor[color=#bc8f8f] vs. Gastly, [color=#bc8f8f]Round One!

[COLOR=#bc8f8f] Arena – In a desert landscape, little vegetation around, the temperature near 100 Degrees Fahrenheit

[COLOR=blue]Let Round One Begin!

[COLOR=#bc8f8f]The arid landscape of the harsh desert is not usually the sight of Pokemon battles, mostly because Route 260 is somewhat less traveled due to the intense heat that the route is scorched with for most of the year. For Rain this would be the place for his first battle. Rain’s Rhyhorn named Xion pawed at the ground, anxious to battle the Gastly that floated around the rock. The Gastly decided to strike first, charging up a semisolid ball full of dark energy. Rain quickly recognized the attack as Shadow Ball and ordered Xion to use Double Team. The image of the Rhyhorn began to waver and then split as six Rhyhorn appeared from the original image and encircled Gastly. With the Shadow Ball already charged, Gastly had no choice but to release it. The ball full of dark matter, spun uncontrollably toward one of the images. The ball made contact and enveloped two of the images in a flash of dark neon light. When the light dimmed the only thing left was a patch of scorched Earth.

Relieved that the attack didn’t hit Rhyhorn, Rain decided to take the initiative and go on the attack. With the order of a Ice beam, her Rhyhorn rears it’s head back with it’s mouth gaping open, blue light begins to filter into his mouth as what feels like a cold chill rushes past everyone. The Gastly, now down to four choices, runs at the next one with its tongue open wide for a lick attack. Rhyhorn on the other hand waits for the best moment that the beam will deal the most amount of damage and releases the brilliant blue beam of ice, right as Gastly is just inches away. The ghost Pokemon falls to the ground chilled and covered in tiny ice crystals.

Confident now in his good luck, and having the ghost Pokemon right where he wants him. Rain orders a Crunch attack from Xion. The Pokemon is quite happy to oblige as he opens his maw and chews through the ice and deep into the ghost Pokemon’s body. Gastly lets out a shriek of pain as Rhyhorn chews in and through the very little amount of skin and muscle that the Pokemon has. In furious anger the Pokemon responds by lashing out with a jet of darkness as thick and black as the night sky. Rhyhorn flys backwards in pain as the Night Shade beam carries him several feet back before finally landing. Staggering up from the attack, Rhyhorn awaits his trainer’s next move.

Round Two!

"Now that she's underground, make her miserable with a powerful Earthquake!" Nodding in agreement, Tai wipes at his eyes to clear the dirt from them again and prepares for the attack. Jumping into the air, he raises the bone above his head, only to slam it into the earth below as he stops his feet down into the grass as well. A vigorous rumbling slowly spreads around Tai, like ripples from a raindrop.

Meanwhile, underground, the Zigzagoon continues to burrow as her mission to pull an earthy surprise attack is suddenly foiled. Not expecting an Earthquake to occur during her attack, she starts digging upward, in an attempt to escape the close and perilous confines of her tunnel. Unfortunately, she cannot scurry through the soil fast enough to emerge before the tremors cause her to lose balance and be crushed by the collapsing pathway. The avalanche of dirt and rocks surrounds her, crushing her small figure.

Back above ground, Tai collapses himself after executing such a powerful move. Taking a breather, her still scans the area, waiting for the Zigzagoon to surface. It wasn't long before this happened, but not in the form of an attack as she had planned. The ferret merely used the rest of her burrowing energy to get back above the horizon. With his short rest over, Tai returns to his feet and begins concentrating his energy again. In a last ditch effort to defend her pride, the injured and weak ferret turns her back to the Cubone and huddles over, firing off multiple barrages of quill-like missiles. As they fly through the air, a spinning bone does as well in a spiraling Bonemerang thrown by Tai. The first wave of pins pierces his arm as the whirling attack smacks the Zigzagoon off her feet. The second wave prickles Tai in the stomache, causing her to lose concentration on the direction of her boomerang. A third wave approaches the Cubone, but is parried by the club as it returns to its owner.

With his weapon returned and back in a battle stance, all that can be seen are the small clouds of dirt left behind by the fleeing Pokemon. Even WILD Pokemon know when they are defeated.

The dark leather belt that holds her skirt up is where she carries her Pokeballs. For her other supplies and items, she carries an average-sized, silver cargo backpack decorated with various charms, symbols, and markings, many of which she drew or attached herself. [color=#990A66]The bright sun made itself known through the thin material of my tent. I could feel the heat starting to rise as the canvas-like covering held in the heat in a greenhouse effect. “Another restless night...” I sighed, rolling out of the cheap cot I called a bed. “How about you? Did you sleep well, Kusa?”

“Ooodd!” the small Oddish cried out as she rustled the five large leaves sprouting from her head in a happy. Pulling a small package with Pokemon food inside out of my bag, I dropped a handful of pieces on the ground next to her. We had to ration our food well because there was little available in the area.

“Well, I’m glad at least you did,” I said, walking to the small basin in the back corner. It didn’t take much for me to get ready in the morning since I wore my clothes to bed. As a matter of fact, many of the civilians here did, in case of an emergency evacuation because of the Crystal Syndicate. Running a cheap brush through my hair, brushing my teeth, and splashing some water across my face was about as complex as it got.

Drying myself off with a coarse hand towel, I tossed it aside as I headed towards the tent flap. The cloth darted through the air, landing on top of and covering a small frame. I let out a small gasp and swiftly removed it. I whispered to myself, “I could never leave that there.” Peeling back the towel and pitching it into the basin, it revealed the only physical memory I had of my parents. “Silver will pay for what he’s done, if only just for you two.” I growled under my breath, a single tear rolling down my cheek. Kusabana gave out a mournful sigh and nuzzled up again my left leg. “You and I will make him pay, right, Kusa?” I questioned her, rearranging some of the mussed foliage on her head. Giving a determined grunt, she let out a cute cry of fortitude and I clenched my fist in agreement.

A boisterous voice suddenly pierced my ears, as well as the others around camp. “Mail Call! Letters AND packages!” hailed the courier who brought all the parcels to the camp every few weeks. “I’ve got deliveries for: Deana Lynch... Jasper Kaldes...” The man continued to rattle off names as the crowds of people hollered, shoved, and reached for their possessions; never a pretty sight. I continued to tidy up what little space I had until he departed, considering I never received mail, and why should I? I had no family left; it was just Kusabana and I...

Then, a familiar name over powered the white noise of the crowd. “Kataki Yoi.” He shouted. The sound of my name being called by that man was such a shock to me that I couldn’t believe it and pushed it from my mind. “Yoi! Kataki Yoi!” There it was again. My entire body was stricken with both alarm and fear. Quickly I flung the tent flap open and ran out to the crown. “Is there a Ka-” he started, but got cut off by my flailing.

“Over here!” I shouted, frantically waving my arms in the air, “I’m over here!”

“Here you are, ma’am.” He hollered back, slinging the white package over the crowd, straight into my hands. It didn’t take long before the one of the camp’s bums approached me.

“You sure that name is right? I think that’s MY package” He spoke through a gruff, smoker’s voice. Lashing out, he quickly wrapped his arms around the parcel, yanking and pulling at it as I fought to keep my grip on it as well.

“Get off me, you filthy ogre!” I snarled, giving him a sharp and powerful thrust to the stomach with my foot. Releasing my package, he stumbled backwards, falling onto his rear end. I held out the white box and pointed to the front, explaining, “This is my package! See, my name is right here!” I ran my finger under the mailing address. “Kataki Yoi. Got that?” Kicking some of the soot-filled dirt at him, I turned and headed back toward my hut, “Plus, nothing this nice would ever come for someone as disgraceful as you. Something this nice could only be sent for a lady, humph!”

Entering my tent again, I set myself down on the cot. “I wonder what it could be...” I said, looking at each side of the box. “What do you think, Ku?”

“Odd... dish?” She replied, an unsure tone in her voice. Cocking her head to the side, she patiently watched as I searched for a place to open it.

“Well, only one way to find out, I guess...” Before ripping at the white paper, I noticed the Pokeball symbol on one of the sides. As I tore into the box, I found several expensive-looking items within: three Pokeballs, one of which had a crude mountain painted on the top, a small pouch with $200 inside, and a device that looked something like a phone or a PDA.

Pulling them all out and setting the empty box aside, I checked the two normal Pokeballs, only to find them empty. Fastening them to my belt next to Kusabana’s ball, I tested the third one with the funky marking. In a flash of light, a small Pokemon emerged as the glowing dimmed. “Aww, how cute! It’s a little Sandshrew!” I crouched down next to it and gave him a hug. “Hmm... I think your name will be... Jishin!” The little mole gave a smile and let out a sound of glee. “But... who sent you? And all this stuff?” I grabbed the box again and found my name. Where the return address would have been was a decorative stamp with the words ‘Sotai Pokemon League’ under a seal.

In a flash, it came back to me. A couple months before the Syndicate’s invasion, I mailed in a registration to become a Pokemon trainer. I could only assume that they held off on sending this until they felt training on the road was safe again. Now that things had calmed down long enough, they finally shipped it out! “Well, I know when I’VE been given a sign. I have a reason to leave, now that there is something better for me out there than this ruin of a city. Come on, you two. Let’s hit the road!”

There was no dispute. Kusa and I had been sick of this place for a time, and this was just the motivation to get us out of here. Shoving the sack of gems into my backpack and the strange device into my skirt’s pocket, I was ready to set off. Pushing the flap back, I looked back on the tent I had lived in since the Crystal Syndicate left town. Grabbing the picture frame with my parent’s photo inside, I turned ran to the edge of town, Kusabana and the new Jishin at my heels. “Now, it’s your turn Silver. You better watch your back.” I snickered, a sinister grin spreading across my face as I slipped the picture frame into a pocket of my bag...

After Rain had gotten up and left, presumably to go catch more Pokemon, she gently pushed Raizen off her lap and got to her feet, grabbing her backpack.

"C'mon Cary and Raizen, since we're free, let's head over to the bank." She was a little too scatterbrained to be carrying cash around, plus you got a nice interest if you put money in. Definitely a worthy investment of sorts.

She walked along the familiar paths, whistling as she went, and entered through the automatic glass doors of the bank, shivering as she was hit full blast by the air conditioner.

"Man, do they have to turn it up that much?" she grumbled.

After giving her money to the person behind the counter who rolled her eyes and told her "Have a nice day", in a tone that implied that she wanted Cearo to have anything but, Cearo walked back out. She was free now, and she decided to go look for Rain. She wondered where he was.

Wandering back to Route 260, she kept an eye out for Rain while amusedly watching Raizen sniff the air, excited and happy to be out of his Pokeball. Cary on the other hand looked plain bored, as she was originally from this location anyway. Cearo had found her and another Houndour puppy, many years ago when she had been here with her sister, Kimi.

Those had been happier times. Cearo sighed.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a low, warning growl from Cary...There was someone or something nearby...

Molten magma courses throughout SLUGMA's circulatory system. If this POKéMON is chilled, the magma cools and hardens. Its body turns brittle and chunks fall off, reducing its size.


Slugma slithers out onto the dry desert, his slithering leaving a trail of molten rock dragging behind, singing plant and animal life unlucky enough to be close behind. He blinks his little yellow eyes, unable to see very well in bright light. Slugma of course defaults onto his amazing heat-sensitive tracking, finding two far cooler beings than himself, one larger and taller and the other more like a dog or reptile. With a vague nod of of whatever Slugma has that equals a neck, and slurps some lava into his mouth from his lower "lip".

Raizen, the Electrike, wastes no time, and summons up a rainstorm. Quite an unusual sight in the desert. The rain pelts Slugmas skin, doing no damage but annoying him, and creating a steady steam rising from his gooey little form. Slugma's vision improves from the cloud-cover, just enough to see that Raizen is the source of all this. Of course, Slugma hasn't got much of a choice, and Hardens his skin anyhow due to the cooling touch of the rain. Not exactly what Raizen had in mind...

Electrike does not let it get him down, but instead flings a heavy clump of dirt and mud into Slugmas face, stinging his eyes and aggrivating the poor thing. More of his heat shuts off as the mud snuffs out small flames all over, before Slugma can shake it off and reignite himself. Whatever these things were, they were getting on Slugmas nerves! It was too damn early for Slugma to be dealing with this! He even yawned, causing a chain reaction for the opponent and his trainer yawning, but Raizen had the downside of slowly nodding off to sleep.

The rain, however, kept Raizen awake. Cooling, calming rain. He looked to the sky and yelped 3 times, thunder crackling from cloud to cloud, before a righteous bolt rained from the heavens, striking Slugma, sending the poor thing flying backwards and onto his "butt". Slugma sloshed and struggled, fising to his feet, and spit out a nasty series of embers, almost completely put out by the rain, but a few managed to sting Raizens face, doing trivial damage and simply annoying the dog/iguana/thing.

"Backpack? Check. Pokeballs? Check. Money? Check. Bank Statement for $100 deposit? Check." I read each item on my list off, marking it as I came to it. All that was left now was to find my Pokemon. My pet Doduo(who we all just called Dodo) and my new Krabby, Citizen Snips.
"I'm so proud of you. Finally starting your journey." My mother smiled and pulled me in close for a hug, "You'll go so far."
I smiled and hugged back, "Here's hoping," before breaking the moment and heading out towards route 253.
"You be careful!" She warned one last time, I nodded and waved, seeing Laura out of the corner of my eye, dashing towards me.
"It came!" She yelled to me excitedly. As she jumped, I nearly fell backwards, catching her in my arms and kissing her warmly.
"It came!" She repeated herself, showing me a cute little Snorunt.
"It's adorable!" I smiled, petting the chilly Pokemon. I opened my own Pokemon, letting my Krabby out. It quickly crawled up my shoulder and began snipping at my ear.
"Ow, hey stop it. Stop it. STOP," I said, quickly losing my patience, "CITIZEN SNIIIIPS" I yelled, half-jokingly in fear to commemorate his namesake. His eyes lit up and he finally stopped, resting in my arms with a one last "kookee".
I smiled and patted his head, and with my little crabby buddy and Laura close behind, made a beeline for Route 253...

A little Oddish toddles around, brushing through the long grass, looking for food. Feeling hungry, he searches, but suddenly, comes upon an angry seeing Doduo.

Oddish’s eyes go all large, as he views one of his greatest fears – an evil bird that wants to eat him! He tries out his first attack, looking all cute and adorable, trying to charm the mean bird(3% energy on Oddish’s part).

Doduo just glares at the little Pokemon, vowing not to be taken in by cutesy little things. He rears back and stabs down viciously with his sharp beak, injuring the little plant Pokemon(13% damage to Oddish, 4% energy from Doduo).

Oddish sits down and wails, tears coming out of his little eyes. Doduo suddenly feels the delayed effects of Charm, and his heart softens, and he is now reluctant to attack the little bulb. Taking a quick peek, Oddish is glad to see that his ploy has worked, and he shoots out a couple of hard hitting seeds right at the Doduo(6% damage to Doduo, 4% energy from Oddish).

Despite this display of aggression, Doduo has barely to heart to use Quick Attack, and he does so reluctantly, slamming into the little Pokemon quickly(7% damage to Oddish, 4% energy from Doduo).

With a quick puff, purple dust fills the air. Doduo blinks once, twice, then falls forward in a slump, asleep(3% energy from Oddish). Oddish grins triumphantly, and hops around excitedly.

[color=turquoise]I looked down at the strewn-around contents of my package and sighed. It was finally the day that I was leaving on my Pokémon journey. I should be excited, jumping around ecstatically or something. Instead I was moping; all these starting trainer things just reminded me about my sister.

She had left four years earlier on her own journey; she was sixteen, just like I was now. But after about a year, she stopped calling. After two weeks without contact my parents did everything they could to search for her, but nothing was ever found. Even today we haven't heard anything about her.

So while I was excited, I was also scared. I didn't want to end up disappearing like my sister, but I knew that in reality almost all trainers who set out make it home safely. Glancing over at Bubbles, my Marill, I saw her giving me a bright and innocent look, and I couldn't help but let a smile slide onto my face. I wasn't going to let the memory of my sister hold me back; after all, that's not who I am.

I glanced over at the new filled Pokéball I had received. I still had no idea exactly what it was, only that the PokéCenter had determined (based on a questionnaire I had done a few weeks ago) the type of Pokémon I was most likely to be compatible with. I had almost thought of waiting until I was on the road to find out, but I was too curious and I didn't want a nasty surprise when I was too far gone from my familiar surroundings.

I picked it up, enlarged it, then pushed the button to let it out. A flash of red light came out and materialized into a small humanoid shape, brown and yellow in color. It blinked and looked up at me over its short snout. I recognized it as a Drowzee, the only Psychic type that had been approved as a starter.

I looked at it and suddenly I felt this weird..."sense" I guess. Like I could almost feel what Drowzee was feeling, while still definitely feeling like myself. Reaching over, I pulled my new PokéDex off of my bed and pointed it at Drowzee. A bright voice called out: "Drowzee - a Hypnosis Pokémon. Drowzee often feeds off of the dreams of the sleeping. To prevent others of its kind to feed off of it, Drowzee has trained itself to never sleep."

I glanced at Drowzee again; despite what the 'Dex had said, this Drowzee looked rather sleepy. Then again, the feeling I was getting from it told me it was definitely not sleepy. And yet, sometimes I find irony very pleasing, especially when it comes to names. With a sly grin I said to the Drowzee, "Would you mind it if I called you Sleepy?" He simply raised an eyebrow, then his mouth curved up on one side and I could definitely feel his amusement.

"I'll take that as a yes, then," I said, smiling myself, while also trying to shake off the weirdness of this new extra sense. Bubbles then decided to introduce herself, and I could immediately tell they would get along fine. "Okay!" I said suddenly, standing up. "It's time for my journey to begin!"

I heard what sounded strangely like a laugh from Sleepy, and he pointed at me. On an urge (which I suspected came from Sleepy) I looked down...and saw I was still dressed in my bright blue pajamas. I blushed, realizing I had made a slight fool of myself, then recalled both of my Pokémon as I quickly went to get dressed.

"Fresh clothes...check! Laptop and MP3 Player...check! Sleeping bag and bed stuff...check!" I verbally went through everything as I put it into my very-fluffy Snorlax backpack. I put my Pokéballs on the special white belt I had bought just for today, then placed my PokéDex into the right-front pocket of my jean skirt. I was finally ready to go.

Unfortunately, that meant it would be the last time I'd see my parents for a while, which meant I'd have to say goodbye to them. Already I was being reminded of my sister, but I had to push those thoughts out of my mind. This was MY journey, not hers. Putting my Snorlax backpack on my back, I slowly walked down the stairs.

As I had expected, both of my parents were at the kitchen table, waiting. They had done their best not to look sad, but I could tell they really didn't want me to leave. Dad spoke first, "So...are you all set to go, Kathy?" I nodded, not daring to speak.

"And how often are you going to call us?" Mom added, trying not to let her tears show.

"E-every week, at least once," I said, nearly choking. This wasn't going to be easy, but I knew I was going to do it. Nothing else really could be said at this point, so I just went over and hugged my parents before running out the door with a yelled, "Goodbye!"

I sighed, sitting with my back against the outside wall of the bank. I was glad I lived in the hi-tech part of the world; banking was painless. I now had $75 left from my initial cash from the box, having deposited the other $125 into my account. I knew I would have to spend some of that on a boat to get to the mainland, but for now it was nestled nicely in my front-left skirt pocket.

After a few moments I got up, brushed off my skirt from sitting on the ground, then made my way to the shore. As I was heading for the dock I heard someone call out my name. Looking around I saw Mr. Kand, a nice old (well, middle-aged) man who had taught me to swim years ago. He loved the ocean (which was good, considering we were surrounded by it) and made it a point to only train Pokémon that he found from the waters around the island.

"Starting your journey, are you?" he said as I came over. I nodded, and he did in turn. "I remember when I wanted to go on a journey. But you know, I found that the ocean here is quite nice as well, and never wanted to leave for very long. Then again, you're not me, so I guess you'll have different feelings, huh?" He chuckled.

A low toot sounded, and I nearly panicked. "It was nice talking to you before I left, but I really have to go now. I don't want to miss the boat."

"Oh, why take that ugly thing?" he replied, giving it a sideways glare. "If you don't mind a smaller, less-catered boat, I'd love to take you across myself. At no charge, of course." I couldn't think of anything nice enough to say, so I simply nodded enthusiastically and smiled brightly.

As he helped me onto his boat, which looked like a floating two-room apartment, I noticed that there was no engine anywhere visible. "Um, is the engine hidden or something?" I asked, not wanting to sound insulting, or worse, naïve.

To my surprise, Mr. Rand chuckled. "No, there's no engine on the boat. I've got the engine right here," and he pulled out two Pokéballs from his belt. "They need a rest every now and then so we'll be going slower, but I find it much more pleasurable this way." and he tossed them out, revealing two Wailmer happily splashing in the water. He tossed a rope down to each, with a small harness built in to each, which the Wailmer grabbed and started swimming, pulling the boat ahead with them.

"Don't worry about anything now; I've got rations for a couple weeks and facilities to last us a month." He smiled down at me. "Now, is there anything else I can do for you?"

As I looked out across the ocean, I saw the splashing as other water Pokémon swam around us. A sly grin crossed my face. "Well, if you have a fishing pole, I'd like to borrow it while your Wailmer take their breaks..."
