Banned Moves: Recovery moves (Damage dealing recovery moves like Giga Drain are OK though). Toxic can be used, but it will only cause normal poison, not "badly poisoned".
Arena: Rock PokeSpot from Pokemon XD - Basic sand/rock arena. The perimeter is surrounded by a bunch of tall rock spires, combatants cannot go past those natural barriers. Ground is a combo of and and rocks, there are a few smaller rock spires scattered around the arena as well.

I'll be using my Wyvrhen, my female Trapinch.

Man, it's tiring in here without the cookie smell to wake me up. Anyway, if you get through this one on one battle, I'm sure we can find a glass of milk for you too.

Hmm, considering the terain, my choice will be Grarl, a fine example of a Male Cubone

Huh, was that an eco or simply Grarl repeating the words?

Anyway, since we're attacking first, we're going for broke when we can be sure we can score a sure hit. Use Ice Beam, and try to freeze those dangerous pinchers solid.

After that, we're going to need to get a bit more defensive. Before Trapinch makes a counter attack, use the good old Double Team

In fact, use it twice for good measure. With that, I think my part is over for now.

Ok Wyvrhen, lets start out with a nifty combo, Shadow Grasp.

This combo is comprised of a Faint Attack + Bite + Strength.

First off, use Faint Attack to dodge the Ice Beam and get close to that Cubone. Then, chomp him with Bite and hold on to him. He'll probably make some clones soon, but you've got the real one in your clutch, so it won't matter. And finally, use your Strength to toss as him hard as you can into the arena wall or the closest rock spire. Try to make the whole combo as quick as possible.

If for some reason he manages to make his clones before you can use Bite and you end up getting a clone instead of the real thing, then stop the combo and use Earthquake after he uses Double Team a second time. That should crush all the clones in one fell swoop.

[COLOR=silver]Both ground-loving Pokemon squared off against one another, at either end of the rock-strewn arena.

Glancing around, the Cubone (with an ace name, by the way! ^^) held out its little hands before charging up a brilliant blue beam and letting it off in the direction of Trapinch. Uh-oh! (-4 energy to Grarl)

Whyvren, having her trainers’ commands clear in her mind, had disappeared, seemingly fainted, the moved through a shadowy realm, sneaking closer to Grarl as his Ice Beam bounced off a large rock, cracking it in two as it went. Suddenly springing out of her hiding place, the Trapinch swerved and slammed into Grarl. (-2 energy to Whyvren | -3 health to Grarl)

In shock, the lonely Pokemon split himself into a series of clones, (-3 energy to Grarl) each skull helmet looking towards the Trapinch and scowling in pain. Confused, Whyvren glanced at each clone before deciding to attack the one closest to her with a Bite (-2 energy to Whyvren | -3 health to Grarl), chomping down with relish. To her dismay, however, the clone popped out of existence, and the remaining clones grinned happily, as they and their real self remembered their orders for this situation.

Stomping all four of her feet on the ground, Whyvren concentrated all of her considerable strength into creating an Earthquake (-7 energy to Whyvren | -9 health to Grarl).

Shaken, the little Cubone looked around, distressed at his lack of clones, and immediately created another set, smiling as they popped into existence. (-3 energy to Grarl)

Scowling at the Cubone, Trapinch glared at all the clones in turn, angry at Grarl’s new line of defence.

Okies Wyvrhen, nice job. This time, I want you to start off with a Gust to blow those clones away.

Then, try to hit it with a nice Crunch, use those jaws of yours. Unless for some reason Gust doesn't get rid of the clones, then use Earthquake.

And finally, use Secret Power.

Grarl, I think we need to take a risk here, and use Dig to avoid the Gust attack. Going underground should make those clones dissapear, and let's face it, we don't want Earthquake used while you're underground. If that's the order, you hit Wyvrhen with the attack pronto before it shakes you up too much.

I don't know what Secrey Power will do, but I don't like the sound of it, so try and head off the attack with a Bonemarang

Note: I’ve just seen the new reffing for Double Team (The user splits in multiple images, almost always surrounding its opponent. It generally causes confusion to its opponent and will stay that way until the user launches into another attack or the user or one of its images is hit by an attack, to which all of the clones will disappear.)
Now, I am going to be implementing this from now on, but not in this battle. So, Grarl has all of his clones in a circle around him, as the old description said was the default if a shape wasn’t ordered by the trainer.

[COLOR=silver]Opening her mouth, Whyvren, determined to get rid of those damned clones, let off a small, gusty whirlwind (-1 energy to Whyvren | -3 health to Grarl) which whipped away the clones and scraped Grarl before dissipating into the air from whence it came.

Grarl, stepping backwards slightly from the power of the gust, leapt up into the air and dived down into the sandy earth, digging (2 energy to Grarl) deep into the ground and blocking up his tunnel after him, clutching his bone in his teeth to keep it safe, protective skull keeping the earth from getting in his eyes.

Sensing the vibrations of the confused Whyvren above him as she tried her hardest to scent him out, Grarl chose his moment perfectly and clawed his way to the surface, clobbering Whyvren with his bone as he exited the dirt. (-4 health to Whyvren)

Disoriented, Whyvren, her eyes full of dust and dirt and sand, tried to chomp down (-4 energy to Whyvren) on what she thought was Grarl, but was actually thin air. Doh! Teeth clacking together painfully, Whyvren shook her head and dislodging the sand, took aim with her secret power attack (-4 energy to Whyvren | -8 health to Grarl), laced with green sleeping powder, it connected with Grarl’s bonemerang (-2 energy to Grarl | -4 health to Whyvren), splitting in two before continuing on and clobbering him in the face.

Whyvren’s laugh was cut off by a hefty bone smacking her in the mouth, leaving a very colourful bruise in it’s wake before zshooming back to Grarl, whose hand lifted for a moment to grasp the bone, before dropping back down as he curled up, yawning, to sleep.

OK, I now have some very limited options here.

Simply put, Grarl, we have to Sleep Talk as long as you're asleep.

After you wae up, change any remaining attacks to Icy Wind, it should be a bit more accurate then that Ice Beam, and not use as much energy.

Nice job Wyvrhen, keep it up.

Lets use the sleep to our advantage. Without direct control of which attacks to use, that things at a disadvantage. So lets not wake him up just yet.

Start off with a Sunny Day. This'll set up for the next attack, and if that thing does happen to wake up, I'd hope that an Icy Wind would be weakened by the hot sun.

Then, go ahead and charge up a Solar Beam. Just charge it the first turn, then on the second turn go ahead and fire. An extra turn of charging should make a really powerful beam.

[COLOR=silver]Raising her head to the sky, Wyvrhen called upon the power of the sunlight (-2 energy to Wyvrhen) to aid her in her battle, as the little Cubone slept on, oblivious.

But what’s this? The skull-capped Pokemon suddenly sat upright, his eyes still closed, and swiped at the air (-1 energy to Grarl | False Swipe) before slumping back down again and banging his head on a loose rock. Eyes jerking open, he gazed wide-eyed at his surroundings, taking in the bright sun, and the large looking beam gathering in Wyvrhen’s mouth. (-6 energy to Wyvrhen)

Gulping, he summoned a nice, icy wind (-2 energy to Grarl | -4 health to Wyvrhen), which blew all about the arena, making Wyvrhen shiver a bit with the cold, as shards of ice stuck in her hide.

True to her trainer’s commands, she held on to her Solar Beam for another turn (-8 energy to Wyvrhen), before finally growing exhausted at the strain of holding it, and aiming the devastating beam through more icy wind (-2 energy to Grarl | -4 health to Wyvrhen) at Grarl. The supercharged beam of woe struck home, (-15 health to Grarl) and Grarl flew backwards, toppling head-over-heels across the rocky arena, whimpering as he went.

Struggling to his feet, he glared at the smugly smiling Wyvrhen, as she surveyed her damage happily.

This time, I want you to start off with a Sand Tomb, try and trap that Cubone.

If you succesfully manage to trap him, throw a Rock Slide down into the trap. If not, try to trap him again, this time with Rock Tomb.

Finish off with another Solar Beam.

OK, I've got a plan here.

For the Sand Tomb, jump to a different location and use an Earthquake, that way even though we can't see, we can make sure we hit Trapinch somewhere.

We are not so easily trapped, so when the rocks come, use a Rock Smash on them so you don't take as much damage.

Finally, use an Ice Beam. If you can't hit Trapinch without being hit yourself, make an ice wall to disperse the Beam like a Prism.

[COLOR=silver]Closing her eyes to concentrate, Wyvrhen whipped up herself a nice, mean sand tomb (-5 energy to Wyvrhen | -3 health to Grarl) which whistled around the arena menacingly. Both trainers squint into the murk, but their Pokemon are impossible to see in the sand, so they both sigh and give up, satisfied with shouting a quick word of encouragement to their creatures.

Though Grarl had performed a little shuffling hop, he cannot escape a sandstorm, and he grimaced as the sharp sand grazed his skin. Stomping his foot in anger, he summoned the fury of the earth (-5 energy to Grarl | -10 health to Wyvrhen). Trying her best to stay upright, Wyvrhen wrestled with her confusion at her trainer’s commands. Her sand didn’t trap Grarl, so she whipped up another Sand Tomb, (-5 energy to Wyvrhen | -3 health to Grarl) as Grarl leaps towards the eye of the storm, unsure of where Wyvrhen is, all he can do is swipe randomly at the air (-1 energy to Grarl). But what’s this? He managed to catch the Trapinch right on the end of her nose, and she flinched away, (-2 health to Wyvrhen) charging up her Solar Beam (-6 energy to Wyvrhen) now that she knew where the pesky Cubone was hiding in the sand. The only problem was her own sand obscured the light of the sun, making her beam less powerful. Oh no!

Sensing danger, Grarl charged up his own beam of woe, an icy one this time (-5 energy to Grarl). Both beams collided, fighting for purchase they moved up and down, before the Icy Beam finally won out, freezing the power of the sun until it shattered, but not before it’s own energy was wasted. The Ice Beam continued on to Wyvrhen, a mere trickle of melted water, it splashed her gently (-1 health to Wyvrhen) and she shook her head to get rid of the horrible water, grimacing.

OK Grarl, we're using Mimic to copy that Solar Beam we just avoided, the problem is, we need time for that to work, so keep your head down, and that helmet pointed at Trapinch.

After that, there's nothing like a good old Water Gun, (TM from R&B) to wake up our burrowing friend.

In case he tries to Dig away, switch the current move immediately to Earthquake if possible.

Alrighty then Wyv, lets keep it up.

We don't want that Cubone to get a powerful attack to use against you, no. So hit him with a Quick Attack, so he Mimics that instead. If he's going to try and block you with his bony head, use the speed to dash around and hit him from behind.

Then, I want you to use Giga Drain and Faint Attack. I'm not sure when that Water Gun is coming, but basically I want you to use Faint Attack to dodge it, and when he's not firing water at you, Giga Drain him.

Opening his mouth, Grarl shot out a spout of water (-1 energy to Grarl) which Wyvrhen immediately countered by fainting. “Oh no!” Shouted the ref, “We have a winn... wait a minute!” A shadowy figure swept through the arena, dodging the water and reappearing behind Grarl to clout him in the rump. (-2 energy to Wyvrhen | -4 health to Grarl)

Peeved, Grarl turned to fire more water at Wyvrhen (-1 energy to Grarl) but once again the pesky critter had ‘fainted’, leaving a strange wisp of smoke before popping up behind poor, confused Grarl to bop him on the arse once more (-2 energy to Wyvrhen | -4 health to Grarl)

I'm back, and from the depths of the forum pit I revive this topic! Thanks for your patience, guys.

Great work Wyvrhen, keep it up.

Start off by Relaxing, take some time to regain a bit of energy.

After that, try to blind the Cubone with a nice Sand Attack.

Then, suck some health from that bonehead with Giga Drain.

If he tries to go underground to avoid your attacks, hit him with an Earthquake.

Scraping up some sand, Wyvrhen, shaking the water from her snout once more, kicked the heap into Grarl’s eyes. (-2 energy to Wyvrhen)

Pawing desperately at his eyes, Grarl got rid of some of the sand, but most of it stayed packed hard into his poor retinas. (Grarl – Blind for three turns) Smirking, Wyvrhen threw herself at the poor lonely Pokemon, until, close enough, a bizarre looking tentacle came out of nowhere and attached itself to Grarl. (-2 energy to Wyvrhen)

Taken aback as her tentacle sprang off an invisible shield, Wyvrhen growled at the smug-but-blind Cubone, who had Protected himself (-3 energy to Grarl) at his trainer’s instructions.

Concentrating, Grarl (for you don’t need vision to conjure clones), magicked five clones out of the ether (-3 energy to Grarl), and, with a series of little ‘pop’s, the clones took their place in a circle around the blinded Grarl. Each one scraping at it’s eyes, until it was impossible to determine where the real Cubone was. So much for being lonely!

I keep thinking I've already posted in this battle when I really haven't... must be that evil Cubone, its sucking out my brain!

Ok Wyv, good. Start off this round by using your own Earthquake, to take out those clones and damage him to boot. Then, use Faint Attack to locate him and strike, though I don't think it'll help you avoid the quake. And finally, get away from him while he thrashes (but keep him in sight) and fire off a Secret Power at the flailing pokemon.

[color=silver]Raising his stumpy hands, Grarl (and family) prayed to the god of sand and conjured up a nasty ‘storm which whipped up right in the centre of the arena! (-2 energy to Grarl | -2 health to Wyvrhen)

Ejaculating* what sounded like a faint ‘oof’, the Trapinch stepped backwards a pace, buffeted by the storm, before stomping her large, clumpy foot into the ground, causing a set of tremors to spread outwards. (-6 energy to Wyvrhen | -10** health to Grarl) The little Cubone toppled over backwards with the force of the ‘quake, as did his buddies, who promptly disappeared with faint pops. So much for sticking together, eh?

Angry about his loss of clones, Grarl stamped his own foot in a temper, creating his own series of tremors. (-6 energy to Grarl | -10 health to Wyvrhen) Happy that he didn’t need his vision to do damage, Grarl was taken by surprise (as no doubt the point was) by the Trapinch’s sneaky feint (-2 energy to Wyvrhen | -4 health to Grarl) which, while it wasn’t enough to escape the earthquake, was still enough to give the ‘bone a good clobberin’.

Swaying slightly under the blow, Grarl, sure of Wyvrhen’s position, began to flail around, foaming slightly at the mouth and smacking the Trapinch multiple times with his violently waving limbs and bone. (-5 energy to Grarl | -10 health to Wyvrhen)

Angered and surprised and in pain, the slightly confused Trapinch sent out a focused beam of energy tinted with a sinister yellow colour. (-4 energy to Wyvrhen | -8 health to Grarl) The beam smacked poor Grarl in the face and he fell backwards, crackling with electricity and absolutely knackered from his flailing – poor thing!

Excellent job Wyvrhen. Your well on your way to becomming a lovely Vibrava, but lets keep the steam on. You should be somewhat close together, since he battered you with his thrashing, so start off with a Giga Drain. His paralysis, and exaustion from the flailing, should keep him from evading the drain hopefully, so suck out a nice bit of energy while he recovers. Then, use a nice Lion's Toss combo on him. Thats comprised of a Bite to grab him (go for an arm or the tail), and then a Strength to spin him around, and then toss him like a bad habit.

However, if he decides to try and clone himself again on the 2nd action (before you Bite), then forget the combo, and use a Gust to blow away the clones, followed by a Rock Slide to pummel him.

Its been almost an entire month since the last reffing, and much longer than that since Bakura's last post. He hasn't been active in ASB at all as far as I can tell, either, and no abscence post.

Sorry, Bakura. If you ever come back to ASB and are active, I'd like a rematch.

So, if I'm not mistaken... 2 points for myself and Weasel (thanks for the reffings), 1 for Bakura if he comes back.
