It's not too late, now it's done; No more are the weak, all are the strong
The excitement over, the crouds dispersed in various states of dishevlement for the last class of the day. I saw Avarin walking away and disappearing around a corner...
"Avarin! Wait!" I called, remembering, with a slight sinking feeling, my predicament. He turned and waited, no sign of impatience on his face. The guy was a damn saint, or pretty close to it, for putting up with me all the time...
"Sorry, I almost forgot... I know you've got to get to class, I do too. Uhm, would you come find me after school? I have a favor to ask..." I said, trying to keep the desperate look from my eyes. Friday night was the local pack's lunapar, and if I was going to do anything about my situation, I would have to speak to the Ulfric first, and I really, really didn't want to go alone. I could ask Michael, but that would only lead to trouble, since he wasn't even close to Lukoi. I probably wouldn't be able to pass Avarin off as Lukoi either, but at least he was wolven. I would opt for the lesser of two evils... Plus, if I had a male with me, I wouldn't be forced into a situation that I wanted to avoid at all costs. It wasn't complete insurance, but it was better than nothing...
Avarin looked slightly confused. "Uh... OK, I guess. You OK?"
"Yeah, I guess... all right, no, not really, but I'm not bad either. I've got to go, though... I'll see you later." I rushed off before he had a chance to say anything else, or to see me blush with embarassment. I was really in deep now...
I made it to algebra just as the bell rang. The teacher, a young vampire who still had a slight tan, gave me a disproving look. What did she expect, having a class in the basement like this, especially after lunch?
"Welcome class, I hope that the general lack of punctuality today is not a sign of things to come..." She glared out over the class. "We have a lot to cover this year, and we won't be able to get through it all if we can't be on time. Whether you make it through the entire course is up to you, but know now that you will be tested on all of it, even if we haven't completed everything."
A groan went through the class and an angry mutter buzzed in the room. "I heard that she was such a bitch in college that her classmates paid a vamp to turn her!" on girl in front of me whispered. The teacher glared at her.
"May I remind you that there is no need to whisper, my dear, I can hear very well. Keep rumors to yourself, they never do anyone any good," she anounced through clenched teeth, flashing fang to the room.
I looked to the boy next to me; Jack was trying to pick spaghetti out of the gears of a watch in frustration. I nudged him and nodded up to the teacher, who was staring. Satisfied, she turned to the stack of books on her desk and proceeded to go on about the rules for school-owned textbooks that we all heard several times every year.
I raised my hand, and she looked at me in surprise. Apparently, she wasn't expecting interaction. "Yes?"
I cleared my throat. "Please, ma'am, what's your name? You're new, so... what do we call you?"
She blinked at me a few times. "Ms. Parker, I am Ms. Parker. Now, on the inside of the front cover, you'll find an eight-digit serial number..."
