Okies, Kushinada, start off with a Fake Out; follow up with a Slash to Jade's wings. Finish up with Double Team; if she uses Agility, then sub Mimic for whatever round that is and copy it.

~Round 1 Start~

Well, Saff here again, to Ref another battle, this one between Phoenixsong and her feisty Meowth, Kushinada, and Green Lanturn’s new Yanma, Jade. All of this is taking place in a nice little meadow – y’all can go and pick yer wildflowers later – but for now, it’s an open batting ground between these two contestants.

Kushinada starts off with a yowl and a sudden burst of speed, heading towards the Yanma just feet away from her with a wide, fiendish grin on her face. Jade, however is tightening her focus, only concentrating on find out everything about the next coming attack, and most importantly: how to avoid it. Seconds later, the Meowth pounces, missing the Yanma by a surprisingly wide margin, the latter having moved out of harm’s way moments before the pounce with unnatural, fluid ease.

Kushinada quickly recovers from the surprise at the unnatural dodge. Hissing, she reacts, leaping at the annoying bug with sharp, lethal claws. Immediately, Jade ceases her chance, backing up a few inches before lunging in a burst of speed. Both Pokémon collide. Jade rams the cat in the stomach and the inertia carries the cat forward – though not before she rakes the closest target: the Yanma’s face with her sharp claws. The kitten roughly hits the ground, while the dragonfly hisses in pain at the long slash marks now disfiguring her face.

Kushinada rises to her feet, and begins to glow with a white light. Seconds later five white, identical Meowth copies appear, only to be blown away into nothing by Jade’s ensuing Whirlwind. Even Kushinada can’t help but be blown a few inches back by the flying-type attack that eventually fades into a dull, harmless breeze.

Well, pretty kitty, that didn't go quite as planned (even though my understanding was that ingame Fake Out attacks before anything else... whatever, it's Saffire's call.) All the same, though, we can turn the tables. Wait until Jade makes it all happy and bright and sunny... and make it rainy, damp and miserable with Rain Dance! Mwahaha! Die, sun, DIE!

...Anyway, once it's all sad and wet and stormy I want you to take Jade's first Swift hit. Why? Because as she does it you're going to use Torment, preventing her from hitting you with the second Swift! Then we can strike with a no-miss attack of our own--blast that Flying-type with Thunder while she can do nothing more than sit and watch. In summary:

It is true that Fake Out usually gets the first spot in the attacking line – but Detect, being a “shield-like” move like Protect, also gets the first move. : / As far as I’ve experienced, the ‘Protect-like’ moves always come before the damaging attack – I haven’t actually seen a Fake Out/Detect go head to head before, so I assumed Detect would go first. And if it came down to speed alone, Yanma’s base speed stat (according to Vee-kun.com) is five points higher than Meowth (95 – 90, respectively). ^^’ I’ll ask around and get others opinions on the move, and if I’m definitely in the wrong I’ll gladly edit the Reffing to reflect it.

~Round 2 Start~

Both combatants are ready to begin another round. At the call from their trainers they leap into action – well, perhaps not exactly. Both Pokémon have retained their positions, with Kushinada eying the Yanma intently as the bug begins to sway back and forth, concentrating on bringing forth the sun in all its fiery glory. Whatever wisps of cloud that lurk about clear make way for the sudden emergence of the sun, intensely bright sunlight now streaming in from the cloud-free sky. Wincing at the sudden change in brightness, the Meowth looks up into the heavens, squinting, before yowling out a pleading cry, tail twitching in an odd rhythm. Dark clouds suddenly gather, and without warning, sheets of heavy rain begin to fall.

Jade does not look pleased about this, her gossamer wings are getting pelted by the rain – which is very uncomfortable as well as a bit awkward. Wet wings do not good flying devices make. Wings flapping at a now rapid pace, to keep at bay the pouring rainwater, the Yanma sends forth a flurry of five-pointed stars. Kushinada has already braced herself for the hit, taking it squarely. Her mouth is moving, and out of it comes a strange, dark chant that rises in volume at a rapid crescendo. The Yanma visibly shudders as a dark curse is laid upon her, and the chant fades.

Jade once again sends forth another Swift -- or rather, tries to, only to find the tiny pinpricks of energy fade into nothing. Baffled and at a loss about what has just taken place, the Yanma can only stare in bewilderment as the scratch-cat, already charged with electricity, sends a powerful Thunder attack hurtling at the Yanma. Guided by the rain, the electricity attacks the rain-soaked bug without mercy. It fades five seconds later, leaving a blackened, extremely pained Yanma and one water-soaked cat.

And the rain shows no signs of stopping.

Don't worry about the Fake Out thing, you don't need to change this reffing (but you can keep what you find out in mind for later or something). I don't quite understand the difference between Protect and Detect, but I'm about 70% sure I recall using Protect and some Hariyama faking me out. Detect might be different, though... Whatever, like I said I don't care whether you edit it here or not.

Hrm. We'll keep it simple for now. Slash her, Quick Attack her and then Growl at her.

~Round 3 Start~

The rainwater is falling in sheets, pelting the ground with continuous rain. The meadow is no longer as pretty as it was. The ground is becoming soggy and muddy, and the grass is covered with water. Everything is soaked. The two combatants are no different.

‘Nada isn’t quite enjoying the rain, eying it with a rather annoyed glance, while Jade looks miserable, wings wet and feeling – excusing the simile – like a drowned cat. She starts of the battle with a grumble, glowing white as the Meowth darts forward, paws squelching through the grass. Immediately, five clones appear, and the Meowth looks about in confusion – well, for only about one second. The clones last for only about that long, mirroring Jade’s unhappy features before phasing out because of the copious amount of rain, leaving the real Yanma undefended, and in plain sight.

Kushinada grins wickedly, claws outstretched and ready to tear. She meets the Yanma with battle ready claws, slashing the Yanma as she lunges past. Now the Yanma has another battle scar running from the beginning of her face, to halfway across her body.

The Meowth lands on the ground, sliding a bit on the slicker surface. She wobbles a bit, recovering her balance quickly like most cats do. She grins again, and lunges.

Both cat and Yanma meet, the former barreling into what could be called the Yanma’s chest (if she was more mammalish). The Yanma takes her chance to try and siphon off the cat’s energy, glowing green as she tries to suck the life out of the white Meowth. She succeeds to some point, until the momentum finally separates cat from dragonfly. Kushinada skids across the ground, while the Yanma lands, back first, into it.

Jade doesn’t bother getting up quite yet, channeling a pale, green beam of energy at her tail. The Meowth hisses, arching her back and fluffing her fur (or trying to, anyway) lifting a water-covered paw and Growling.

Jade falters for a few seconds, and the beam flickers. Clearly intimidated by the growl, the beam takes a few more moments to launch, but it does, hitting the cat, leaving a strange sensation in the feline’s body in its wake – tingly almost, but it’s soon gone.

Ah, yes, the sun. So bright, so beautiful, so soothingly warm after a long rain... but do remember, Jade dear, not to look directly into it or you'll go blind... or at Kushinada, for that matter. Shmack that Yanma with a Flash, my pretty kitty! Then, zip right through that Silver Wind with an Aerial Ace. End with Protect.

~Round 4 Start~

Jade, already a bit moody and disheartened from the drizzling liquid coming down from the heaven’s is more than eager to obey her trainer’s next command. Buzzing with a more heartened tone, she focuses her power, staring at the sky with an almost beseeching look. Almost immediately, the rain stops and the dark clouds are whisked away like a bad dream, followed by an ever bright, happy sun.

Kushinada also seems to be quite pleased with the change of weather. The light glints off her forehead charm, making it sparkle. Kushinada grins as the charm and her whole body begins to glow an extremely bright white. With it, comes a blinding flash of searing light, and Kushinada screeches as her eyes are filled with the unnatural luminance.

Blinded by haze, the Yanma can’t see the white form (of whom is smirking with amused feline glee), but prepares the next attack. Flapping her wings rapidly (of which are already quickly drying from the hot sun) a gust of wind, laced with bug-type energy particles – begins to blow. Little does the Yanma know the Meowth is already heading for her, body glowing with a pale hue. She’s moving at a very fast speed, slightly slowed down by the gust-like attack from Jade. The Meowth still rushes forward, trying to ignore the slight sting of the Silver Wind.

Finally, she strikes the Yanma with a glowing paw, sending Jade tumbling through the air to the left. To her credit, she manages to regain her equilibrium from the super-effective attack, flapping about on madly thrumming wings as she wills her vision to clear, which it is slowly doing.

She can slightly see now, and through extremely “white-washed” eyes, she makes out an odd feline figure out of the haze. A strange shield is around the crouched cat, no doubt bracing for her coming attack. Jade squints, a little on the confused side, but nevertheless, she begins to flap her wings once more – this time, even more rapidly.

The proceeding Whirlwind blows through the grass, hurling a load of drying mud and a few rocks in the cats direction, but the projectiles all bounce harmlessly off the shield, leaving the Meowth in the exact same position as before, unscathed by the strong wind.

Kushinada smirks a bit as the Protect fades, while Jade blinks a few more times, happily finding her vision becoming clearer as the seconds pass, and no longer intimidated by the white feline. Up above, the fiery sky orb burns bright, reigning supreme over the battle.

~Round 5 Start~

The bright sunlight seems to be improving both combatants moods considerably. The Yanma no longer has a dour appearance, looking relieved as her wings thrum with increased fervor. Kushinada, meanwhile, looks ready to begin the next round, confident about her battling abilities. As to whether those abilities will stay true, only time will tell.

Round five begins on a odd note, as Kushinada, hearing her trainers orders, curls herself into a tight ball with no problem whatsoever. The Meowth stays there, trying to cover up her weak points as the Yanma quickly charges up a Solar Beam and releases it. The bright sun energy has no problem striking the white-furred ball, the force of the attack rolling Kushinada backwards through the grass.

A bit disoriented by the sudden movement, as well as the strong blast of energy that struck her, Kushinada uncurls, shaking her head to rid herself of a brief spat of dizziness. She spots the Yanma just across the way, fluttering, and hisses loudly. The Yanma takes off in a burst of speed, just as the Meowth begins to motion the Yanma forward with taunts and aggressive gestures. Jade’s expression immediately turns into a dark, angry scowl as she becomes a red blur. She hits the Meowth as hard as she possibly can, bowling the feline over. So great is her sudden fury, she barely seems to stop in her flight, swinging about to face the Meowth again.

Kushinada is already on her feet, her back arched. Her eyes widen, and her whole demeanor suddenly becomes very, very angry, and the little white cat suddenly wants nothing more than to attack the Yanma without any restraint.

As if answering the cat’s call, the Yanma still furious hits into the Meowth again, draining precious life energy from the feline until Kushinada swats her away with a paw. The Yanma only goes a few feet, eyes narrowed while Kushinada does the same.
