Thread: Umbreon as a STARTER

    Default Umbreon as a STARTER

I've seen Umbreon being used in the metagame quite usually, but I've been thinking about a strictly starter Umbreon, only to use as your first Poké. It's something like this:

    Mean Look
    Rest
    baton pass
    torment / substitute

You take out Umbreon on something like a Salamence, Swampert... which expects Umbreon to be a Toxicer or subpasser, and you mean look them before they realise it's not. you can also use torment or substitute, then baton pass to the right Pokémon. If you've Mean Looked something physical, bring in something with a lot of defense, for example. Then, you start setting up. If you did the switch well, your newly come Pokémon should be strong against the Mean Looked one, so you can set up safely, and rest off the damage if you need it. That way you can get in 6 Calm Mind or 6 Bulk Up / Dragon Dance with not much of a problem.

It doesn't always work but it's got a good success percentage. What do you think about it?

Umbreons need Taunt as their last move. Otherwise, the opponent will switch to their Suicune/Skarmory/Donphan etc. and Roar/Whirlwind you away. Taunt stops them from doing so.

Which game are you playing? Eevee is obtainable in Fire Red and Leaf Green in Celadon Mansion, and you get an Espeon and an Umbreon in Colloseum and an Eevee in XD: Gale of Darkness. It can't be obtained in Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald without trading or using a cheating device.

That's precisely what Mean Look does. It prevents them from switching to their phazer. If they switch right away, you can always use the turn during which they roar to Torment them, preventing them from roaring again and again, so you can try again later.

It's not that easy. Any smart trainer would switch to their phazer the first turn they get. If you Torment them, they'll still be able to make you switch out. At least Taunt makes it so that you can actually BP to a counter. So ultimately, Taunt > Torment.
